Welcome to the 4th annual Spring Lake bull sale. We are very excited about the bulls this year and what they have to offer. There are many new genetics in this years pen with the likes of Connected, Power Play, and Betts to name a few. You will also see some of the same proven sires from years past that ourselves and customers have come to appreciate for their consistency. Our main goal is to create structurally sound, easy doing, performance cattle year after year. With 300+ breeding females we feel that this is a very strong group of bulls. No matter what your breeding needs are we try to have a bull that fits everyone’s program.
For the first time in 5 years, we will also be selling a select group of open heifers at this years sale. With the herd having grown to the size that it has, as well as a number of females being kept as replacements and the fact that no one is getting younger, we feel it’s time to let some of our top end females go to work in other herds. If you would like to view the bulls prior to sale day, everyone is always welcome. Welcome to the Zimmer’s annual Spring Lake Simmental bull sale. It is year two on the farm, and all the bulls will be kept on the farm until they are delivered. This reduces Doug and Eric’s workload and stress, as well as their bulls, a win for everyone! You get to view the bulls in their normal surroundings.
As always, expect a large group of soggy, hairy Red bulls that push down the scale. There is a great selection of “Zimmer Red” bulls in the pen. They are as dark as you can find in the industry. Again this year, the Sysco sons are very impressive, consistently heavy muscled with lots of hair, and 17 bulls make up this outstanding sire group! There are so many impressive ones that it will be hard to choose just one. I was blown away by Lot 18, a Betts son that is as powerful as they come and as red as you can get. You will also see sons of Epic, Coberg and Connected in the red group.
The black bulls are stunners this year with many having the money stripe. Lot 23 sticks out with amazing muscle shape, long bodied in a very eye appealing package, truly a feature. The black pen is also hairy and soggy with tons of muscle.
The fullblood section isn’t as large as the reds and blacks, but there is a nice variety of horned and polled bulls. Lot 66 really stuck out in January, cherry dark red and goggled with lots of length and muscle shape and polled to boot!
After many years of retaining all their heifers, Doug and Eric have made the decision to part with a group in the sale. The 300+ head cowherd has been built and replenished with home raised females making them very predictable. This will be your only opportunity to pick up a front end Springlake female!

ZSL Carbide 14K is a big nutted, homo polled Sysco son that is one of the poster boys for our bull sale with good reason. He is powerful and correct in every way with a super disposition. His thick, cherry red hair coat is an added bonus. If you want to take your breeding program to another level, this bull will help you get there. We sold a really good Sysco son last year as a lead off bull in our sale and there’s a very good chance that this guy is going to be our lead off Sysco sired bull in this year’s sale.

Lariat is a typical son of MRL Sysco that is a big hipped, heavy quartered and easy moving type of bull. Weaning off his mother at over 1000 pounds puts this bull in a separate kind of class. His mother, ZSL 65C, is not a big cow but she’s all there and has several times brought in one of these outstanding calves.

Another son of MRL Sysco that exhibits the extra volume, thickness and blood red hair coat that is seen in most of his progeny. His mother, ZSL 69C, has put bull calves in several good herds across Western Canada. This bull will not only give you desirable steer calves and replacement heifers but if this dark red thick hair coat is important to you it should be a lock, as his mother is every bit as dark red and hairy. A moderate framed, soggy made and heavy haired, dark red son of the ever popular MRL Sysco bull. We couldn’t be happier with the Sysco calves as he seems to out-produce himself every year. We now have a lot of Sysco females in the herd and the quality of those females make his genetics even that much more valuable. Viking is the right kind of bull for a lot of herds and the added bonus is his proven pedigree.
ZSL Sonic 1K is out of a first class sire, MRL Sysco, and a first class female, ZSL 43B. This herdsire prospect will grab your attention when you walk in his pen as he is a deep bodied, dark red and hairy, big hipped calf. His Odyssey mother is a big barrelled, easy doing, moderate framed cow with a really good udder. Look for this bull to work well in any type of cow herd.

Patriot is one of the youngest Sysco sons in the sale but standing in the group of red bulls, he is second to none of them. He has the length and thickness and overall eye appeal to possibly even propel him in front of his older peers. If color and hair is a big part of your decision about picking a herdsire, then Mr Bentley 161K will be an easy pick for you. When you get done with that criteria then the bonus in this bull will be his moderate frame and extra thickness. His mother is built exactly the same way and even though she may be getting older, as long as she continues to show us this kind of calf, she’ll be around as long as possible.

Nykee 185K is just a really nice, moderate framed and stout son out of one of the most consistent sires to walk the pastures here at Spring Lake, MRL Sysco. He is one of the younger bulls in the pen but gives up very little in performance to his other pen mates. This light birth weight, homo polled herdsire prospect also has a quiet disposition that we all want to breed into our cow herd and he can certainly do that.

Padgham has lots of volume, rib, length and a hair coat like no other...never-mind, he’s got the hair coat that all the Sysco calves have. He’s loose hided, long bodied, smooth and stylish. These Sysco sired calves are consistent year after year. His mother was the high selling black open heifer at the Rendezvous Farms sale in 2017 and she’s been a favourite since she got here.

ZSL 266J is an off age calf out of MRL Sysco and a really, really good cow, ZSL 75Z. She has the distinction of raising the fastest gaining calf here at Spring Lake Simmentals. One of her other calves was born outside when it was -35 with a 40 mile an hour wind blowing. When I picked him up, he was 95 pounds but by the time I got to the barn door I’m sure he weighed 200 pounds. Seriously though, a set of twins set her calving back. She is a beautiful female that is as easy doing as they come with an udder that you want on every one of your cows. Combine 75Z and MRL Sysco genetics and you have, here in front of you, a top herdsire prospect.
Ozark 97K is a heavy quartered, deep sided and wide topped bull out of the popular AI sire SVS Betts. The Betts calves that we have and the ones that I’ve seen at other farms are some of the thickest, easiest doing animals in the group. Ozark 97K carries all of those traits, maybe even a little better and he is blood red. His Odyssey mother is a dark red, soft sided, easy keeping female with a perfectly even and squared udder. This bull has the potential to go on and help improve any herd that he goes into. This is a definite herdbull prospect and one that we hope to use in the future in our AI program. HOMO POLLED

Another very useful son of SVS Betts that is big barrelled and thick made while keeping the sharp profile that is sure to help both his steer and heifer calves get picked out at the auction market. His Currency mother is a trouble free, moderate framed, thick made cow that every year just goes about her business of bringing in a good calf.
This is our lone calf out of SSSF Hawkeye 1H who was the high selling bull in the Sunstar sale in 2021. He’s been a favourite from day 1. His colour pattern is what catches your eye immediately and he just gets better as you make the walk around. He’s as deep and soggy as we can make them and very quiet. Taylormade is a straight up UNIT of a bull. He’s long as the drives I attempt with the clubs he’s named after. 131K is out of a big framed, powerful Red Dragon daughter with a perfect udder. If you’re looking for extra pounds on calves in the fall then take an extra minute on him. Not recommended for heifers.
Here’s a bull you’ll want to consider if it’s the baldy look you’re wanting. 2K is long, soft made and hairy. His sire has done everything we’d ever hoped for in providing performance, structural soundness and consistent calving ease.
A red blazed face Crossroads Connected son that is full of meat and muscle. This is the first group of Connected sons here at Spring Lake and we are extremely pleased with what we see. They come easy, grow really well and are easy to work with. This red bull will surely be near the front section of our red sale division and many of the black Connected sons will be at the front of the sale order.
Here is a pen favourite when it comes to the black bulls, Protege will be popular on sale day. He is moderate and super stout with a great full blood pedigree on his mother’s side with Rusty and Spur. Both sires created unmatched females for us.

This guy’s mother is an impressive lighter red blaze Black Canyon daughter and Connected being the powerhouse black blaze that he is, Bourne’s colour pattern was a bit of a shock as he came out with that full blood look. Here’s a heifer bull candidate that we’re pretty impressed with. These Connected calves can start off small but quickly catch the higher birthweight calves. 119K is about as smooth on the front end as they come with great feet and a hair coat you want them all to have.
Aquila 69K is a really good Coberg son that is big middled, strong topped and loose made while maintaining overall eye appeal and balance. His young mother did a great job bringing in this herdsire prospect looking like this which is a testament to the value that she will have in the herd for years to come. Use the pedigree and the genetic potential from Aquila to do the same for you.
Here is a Coberg son out of a big power cow with a long history of being very productive and sound as she is a Z cow. He is a long bodied, thick topped and stylish bull that is a very useful type of herdsire that will go out and produce a solid calf crop every year.
This is a dream pedigree if you’re looking to add to your replacement pen. It’s littered with bloodlines that have been instrumental throughout our entire herd. And Zorro should help in your herd as well. He’s moderate framed, long bodied and the hair coat we aim to breed into them.
This is a dark red blazed face Coberg son that will check off many boxes for cattlemen looking for a really good, structurally sound, thick made bull. His sire, ZSL Coberg, was one of our high selling bulls a few years ago, going into the really good Ken Gilbert herd at Minburn, AB. When you combine 172K’s mother, one of our best Westcott females, along with the power of Colberg’s mother who is a Capone female you come up with a pedigree that’s second to none if you’re building females to keep in your herd.
Some may remember this guy’s sire as our high selling red baldie from a few years ago. We were excited to try him on his mother as she is one of the top black cows in our herd and this pairing didn’t disappoint. If replacement heifers is what you’re looking for then here’s the bull. Bugatti is the 2nd calf his mother has weaned off over 1000lbs.
ZSL Conan 56K is a ZSL Tillman son that was a twin to a heifer but raised on the same cow. This young female did a hell of a job considering she was only a two year old. Look past his lighter weaning weight because of that twin factor and look at this bull now as an individual that has gone on to be a really good bull in a very strong bull pen. This guy will not disappoint his new owner.

Here is a dark red, heavy haired bull who is designed for calving ease that has a light birth weight, good performance and style that is easy on the eyes. His sire, Epic, was used exclusively in our heifer pen with really good results. We found the birth weights to be more than acceptable possibly due to the fact that he seems to have a shorter gestation period than most yet the calves grow really well and fit in nicely with the rest of the group. Cherry Comfort 163K is exactly the type of bull that we were hoping his sire, MRL Southern Comfort, would produce when we bought him as the lead off red bull at McMillans sale two years ago. Manhattan is a dark red and hairy son of Southern Comfort who is thick and easy doing on a very moderate frame. Southern Comfort’s calves will be in the middle of the performance bulls in the pen while being extremely sound structured, easy moving and deep bodied. 162K is a perfect example of that. Sicario 166K is the only Venom son in our sale this year and he’s a pretty good bull. The pattern that this bull displays is very moderate, yet thick and deep bodied describe him very well. Element is 1 of less than a handful of Logland Arrow L03E calves that will sell in Canada this year as we are 1 of 2 breeders that had access to him. When we were approached to buy a semen package on the homo polled Logland bull, we took the chance knowing his exclusivity and complete outcross to anything we’ve ever used. Unfortunately he’s the only bull calf we got as the rest came out heifers, and they are impressive. Element has had that herd bull look from a very young age. This is a Spring Lake female who encompasses so much of what we work towards in our program. Her pedigree represents some of the very best females that we have produced in our herd. Her calves are sure to excel in terms of performance and power because of the genetics in her pedigree. Where do I start with this bull? Before we bought Sysco we had been using his sire, Capone, fairly heavily and thought why not just buy a Capone son. We feel we hit a homerun with the purchase of MRL Sysco 14D. He has done everything that we could have hoped for. He calves extremely well and the calves grow like weeds posting above average weaning weights and yearling weights. The bull calves have been extremely popular in our sales with their thickness, soundness, hair coats and gentle temperaments. The daughters have emerged as soft made and moderate framed females that have above average udders and milking ability. We have no doubt that a Sysco sired bull in your herd will be one that you will be happy with.

SEMEN RESERVE: Spring Lake Simmentals reserves the right to collect 100 straws of semen for in herd use only on any bull in our sale. Semen would be collected at our expense and the buyers convenience.
The bull feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization and gut health; they are developed on grass with their moms on a strict mineral program. All the forages are sampled and analyzed to ensure quality forages are used. Once the calves are weaned, they are slowly moved onto a balanced TMR.
The bulls are challenged with a forage-based TMR to help them develop and express their genetic potential. Matching suitable protein sources with proper starch is key to promoting lean muscle growth.
