Wow what a year!! This cattle market continues to climb. Where it will stop is anyone’s guess. With the North American cow herd at all time low numbers, the supply will struggle to keep up with demand for years to come. Even at record high cattle prices, ground beef is still one of the most economical sources of protein available on supermarket shelves. All signs point to sustained profitability in the beef industry for years to come, but rest assured, some politician will try to screw that up.
This is the second year of us selling predominantly two-year-old bulls. As we move deeper into this transition, we can’t help but be excited. Our sale bullpen this year is exciting to say the least. Quality from top to bottom. There is something here for everyone - from sleep easy heifer bulls to power bulls that can walk and talk with the best in the industry. As we move forward, our herd bull battery and our cowherd are as strong and deep as they have ever been, allowing us to be able to consistently produce large numbers of quality individuals that fit into all aspects of the industry.
With this many two-year-olds to sell, we made the decision that it is best for everyone (bulls and people) to have a video sale. No animals will be coming through the barn. All of the animals will be beside the barn in pens that are accessible and easy to evaluate the bulls in.
Please join us for lunch on sale day in our heated sale barn on the farm. Be prepared to stay after the sale for our annual ‘fish fry’. Once again it is a great pleasure to welcome you to the annual Beck McCoy Bull Sale on behalf of our family. I have offered this job to a few others but not having many takers so far. This our 16th annual sale. The years seem to fly by at increasing pace the older we get. It has been a pleasure getting to know you all over the years and to build the relationship that we have with so many of you. That being said I expect a large number of you reading this catalog don’t know us well so look forward to having the opportunity to get to know you and to visit about what you think you will need from our genetics over the next 5-10 years to make your business profitable and sustainable.
Making the cow business profitable and sustainable is obviously a key to managing our business and creating an opportunity for the next generation to want to be a part of. Speaking personally, it is an interesting time for us as our girls evaluate options to each of them as they go out into the world. All of them have interest in our family operation but will soon see what the future holds over the next few years. Fortunately the forces of supply and demand are definitely doing their share to help with the profitability and sustainability piece at the moment. We hope this continues and it appears to be the case for the foreseeable future.
Throughout the footnotes and the catalog in general we talk about the things we do to help create a better product for you. Once again we hope these improvements will help with the profitability and sustainability piece in your business. Examples are usage of genomics to improve accuracy of EPDs or use of ultrasound to improve carcass value in our herd over the last 20 years.
Likely we talk too much about these enhancements or new bells and whistles and can gloss over the basics. The bottom line is we have been in the seedstock business since 1954. That entire time we have worked to improve the Hereford genetics in our operation. The Hereford breed is a maternal breed. Therefore, we have spent 70 years improving and developing the type of the Hereford female that fits in a real world environment. Traits such as udder quality, feet and legs, and fleshing ability are still fundamental and basic to what we do here. Other key facets of the Hereford breed such as disposition and longevity sometimes don’t get talked about as we take them for granted.
Customers sometimes ask which sire groups are the ones to focus on maternally. The answer truly is ALL of them. Maternal traits have been and always will be the focus in our breeding program. Some bulls will sire more performance and some may have better carcass value but ALL had better be proficient at producing Hereford influence females when used in a commercial crossbreeding program.

Jorja’s special bull sold in our 2022 bull sale to Steppler Farms. After living the life of a normal herd bull for the last two years including breeding 60 cows in the spring of 2024, Andre decided to get Throttle ready to show in the fall of 2024. At the time it seemed crazy but it turned out to be a great decision. Throttle went on the win Supreme Champion bull at Brandon Ag Ex, Champion bull at Canadian Western Agribition, and was Top Ten Finalist in the CN Supreme at Canadian Western Agribition. It was a great run last fall.

This year’s group of two year olds features a very strong group of bulls that were hand picked in the fall of 2023 to sell in this year’s sale. They were vaccinated and weighed on October 1. They were left on the cows until beginning of November 2023, gently wintered on a backgrounding ration. They were pastured from May 15 until October 15 this past summer. They have been fed a TMR ration this winter consisting of silage, oats, barley, straw and bull supplement. Our goal to raise 2 year old bulls with bred in performance but managed in such a way that they remain sound and active breeders for years to come. Buy these bulls with confidence they could work in any of the best herds in the land.

Rarely do you find a heifer bull that can grab your attention like Soundwave does, being so exceptional in his build. Mason’s favourite bull in the sale this year and for good reason.
Boasting a perfect foot, a -4.4 birth weight EPD, and a cow family that is truly beautiful, his dam being one of our best Braxton daughters on the farm, and his grand dam being an outcross Anchor daughter that is no stranger to cranking out good ones. 345L is one that we think is truly special with so much dimension, fluidity, and attractiveness.

His length of body along with his depth of body, not to mention the amount of pure stoutness and ruggedness he carries makes him a complete herd bull. His Ledger mother is quickly becoming a herd favourite, producing Beck’s Impact who was used in our heifer program in 2023 and sold to Buffalo Lake Charolais in our 2024 bull sale. Yearling bulls.
As we moved our calving later, we wanted to still be able to offer some yearling bulls in the sale. As with all the other bulls they spent their summer being raised on native and tame pastures, no creep. As we did our weaning weights on October 1, we put quiet weans in a group of calves. They were weaned on October 8 and fed a TMR ration. When analyzing this group of yearling bulls, you will have to adjust your eyes as they are at least 3 months younger than a lot of yearling bulls selling this spring. As in the past, none of the yearling bulls will be semen tested before the sale. They will be testicular measurement and palpated by a licensed veterinarian. Semen testing will take place in either March or April as dictated by you the buyer. We keep lots of spare bulls. Spare bulls are available for your use in the case that something happens to the bull you purchase between sale day and turn out. Beck Farms reserve the right to draw semen on any of the sale offering for in-herd use only. This will be at our expense and your convenience.

This Braxton son was the high seller in our 2020 bull sale going to C2 Charolais in Manitoba. We were fortunate enough for the Cavers to allow us access to semen on this bull. In the spring of 2018, Mason and I travelled to Debruycker Charolais in Montana in search of different genetics. After travelling over 800 miles and sorting through over 600 bulls, our pick was Marksman. Sired by LT Ledger, Marksman may not be the outcross we were looking for but backed by an incredible Trademark daughter make him a potent breeding piece that will lead our program into the future. 155M hasn’t been real difficult to find in the pasture all summer. You will quickly understand that when you see his picture or more importantly evaluate him against his contemporaries. He indexed 120 at weaning. His full sister, that we are eager to calve this spring, also indexed 120 at weaning in 2023. Homozygous Polled
McCoy Bull Development
The McCoy bulls spent the summer of 2024 on a combination of tame and native grass pasture. Creep feed was offered to the bulls late August to aid in the weaning process. Mother nature blessed us with a decent grazing year having good moisture early in the season and some moisture late in August that helped later in the year. As a result, our weaning weights were more normal this year after being noticeably lower in 2023. Bulls were vaccinated and 205 day weights were recorded on September 14. Bulls were weaned the first week in October. Since weaning bulls have been on a high roughage diet including silage, hay, oats, and protein supplement. 365 day weights were recorded on January 11.
As in past years the bulls will not be semen tested prior to the sale. All bulls will be measured and palpated by a licensed veterinarian before sale day. Semen testing will take place in late March or April as dictated by the buyer. We retain a large number of high quality spare bulls. Spare bulls are available to you in the event that a bull doesn’t pass his breeding soundness evaluation.
All McCoy bulls will receive an initial vaccination for footrot prior to being delivered.

33M is the only son of Fairway 102K to sell in this year’s sale. I guess he is a bit of a teaser for next year as we expect to have 50 calves from his sire born here in the spring of 2025. 33M is a long bodied, loose hided, soft made bull that is very typical of what we are trying to produce here. We have several paternal siblings in our replacement pen. To say we are excited about them is an understatement! Homozygous Polled.

Terms... The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes the auctioneer’s decision will be final.
Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.
Certificate of Registration... Each animal will carry papers issued by the applicable breed association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.
Health... All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.
Guarantee... Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the applicable breed association with regards to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.

Delivery... Assistance will be given in getting your purchases home. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
Liabilities... All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The sellers, facility owner and auctioneer assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made here under.
Phone, Mail, Wire Bids... Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.
