JASPER BEASLEY

Hi! My name is Jasper Beasley. I’m part of Dryland Multi Club. This is my first year with a beef project. I have a 4-H steer named Angus. He is very calm and I think he is a good calf. He will lead great once you get him going. He started at 620lbs on November 11, 2019 and he is now 1250lbs on May 15th, 2020. He is a very nice animal, really, he is just a big teddy bear.

8

KEEGAN CONNERS

My name is Keegan Conners and I am 13 years old. This is my fifth year in Market Steer 4-H. I named my steer Bobby-Q after a barbecue restaurant we saw in Arizona. He started at 660lbs and as of May 6th he is about 1400lbs. He is a LimoAngus cross from our own cow herd. This breed is known for its feed efficiency, performance and carcass quality. Bobby-Q is not a fan of being worked with but we get it done. I will miss having a real Show and Sale Day this year. I would like to thank the Limo Buyers Group for their support in buying my steer last year!

9

KIPTYN CONNERS

Kiptyn Starting weight 590 lbs 2020

Weight 1300 lbs As of May 6,

My name is Kiptyn Conners and I am 10 years old. This is my first year in Market Steer 4-H as a full member. My steers name is Buddy. I picked my calf because he seemed quiet and that's what I needed for my first steer. My calf weighed 590lbs in the fall and is about 1300lbs as of May 6th. My steer is Angus breed. He is quiet and easy for me to work with. I was really looking forward to my first Show and Sale Day and disappointed it isn't happening. I look forward to next year when we can have a real show and sale day!

10

MEGAN CONNERS

I am an intermediate member and have been a part of the Dryland Multi 4-H Club for 6 years now. This year I have chosen a black Limo/Angus cross steer to feed and sell. His name is Bear. He is a home raised steer out of our own herd. At weigh-in on November 11, 2019, he weighed 730lbs. When I weighed him on May 7, 2020, he weighed 1440lbs. He has been gaining 3.99lbs per day. I picked Bear because he has a wide rump, and is quite deep. I chose to feed a Limo/Angus cross steer because the Limousin breed gains well, and has excellent carcass quality. Thank you to Merle and Connie Blair for buying my steer last year. 11

TAYLOR CONNERS

My name is Taylor Conners and I am 12 years old. This is my fourth year in Market Steer 4-H. I named my steer Dr. Pepper. He is a Limo- Angus cross from our own cow herd. My calf weighed 620lbs and now on May 6th it weighs 1250lbs. This breed is known for its feed efficiency, performance and carcass quality. Dr. Pepper was a handful to start with but got easier to work with. Ideally, we would have more time to work together and participate in our normal Show and Sale Day. This has been an interesting finish to our year and will be one to remember. I would like to thank the Limo Buyer Group for their support in buying my steer last year! 12

KATIE HICKLE

SOLD BY PRIVATE SALE

This is my third year of being a junior 4-H member and I have chosen a Limo cross calf that has been home-raised. His name is Flash, and he weighed 630lbs at weighin and on May 14th, 2020, he weighed 1220lbs. His rate of gain is 3.17lbs per day. I like that he is a showy calf, has a smaller but proportionate frame, and is filling out quite well. I love going out to scratch and groom my calf. This year I even did my schoolwork out in the barn with our animals. I have already picked some candidates for my 4-H calf next year. Also, I would like to send a huge thank-you to Freson Bros. in Hanna for purchasing my calf last year!

13

RYLEY HICKLE

year I have chosen a black Limo/Angus cross steer to feed and sell. His name is SOLD BY on November Bear. He is a home raised steer out of our own herd. At weigh-in 11, 2019, he weighed 730lbs. When I weighed him on May 7, SALE 2020, he weighed PRIVATE 1440 lbs. He has been gaining 3.99 lbs per day. I picked Bear because he has a wide rump, and is quite deep. I chose to feed a Limo/Angus cross steer because

This is my first year being a junior 4-H member and I have chosen a Limousin calf that we raised from our own herd. His name is Chunky, he weighed 680lbs at weigh-in and on May 14th he weighed 1435lbs. His rate of gain is 4.06lbs/day. I chose this calf when we were moving cows one day, he was at the back of the herd and I could tell he was a butterball, and now he is getting a really big rear-end. I like being able to go out to the corral and scratch my calf. I am looking forward to next year when I can do my first show & sale like 4-H has done in the past.

14

BLAKE LAUGHLIN

I am a senior member and this is my 7th year in 4-H. This year I was in the small engines project as well as in the Market Steer project. I am grateful to be a part of 4H as it has allowed me to learn new skills, go on trips, and make new friends. My steer this year is a Charolais, purchased from my neighbour. He weighed 760lbs at weigh-in and 1640lbs on May 18th. I am disappointed that the show is cancelled, but glad that we were able to make the most of it. I would like to thank Clay Ridge Farms for buying my steer last year, as well as John Gilchrist for allowing me to purchase this fantastic steer in November.

15

KELLY LAUGHLIN

I have been a cleaver kid in 4-H for the last three years. This is my first year as a junior member so I get to sell my first market steer and I am currently 9 years old. My steer’s name is Brutus and he is a limo cross out of our herd at home. My older cousins who are in 4-H helped me pick him out, I am learning a lot from the older members in my club. My calf weighed 540lbs on November 11, 2019 and he weighs about 1200lbs now. I really like feeding my calf and grooming him. Thank you for considering to buy my calf and I excited to see you all in person next year!

16

CORBIN MACMILLAN

I have been a member of the Dryland Multi Club for 6 years and have four projects this year - steer, heifer, small engines and pheasants. This year I chose a red-white faced calf named Heavy As A Chevy. He is out of one of our own cows and I chose him because he was a showy and deep-bodied steer. My steer has grown nicely and has always been very friendly and easy to work with. At weigh-in he was 620lbs and as of May 21st he is 1375lbs. I would like to thank Kevin and Cindy Hickle and family with Lynn Dee Ray Ltd. for purchasing my steer in 2019. Thank you for sharing a roast and steaks from “Jeff as well!

17

KALE MACMILLAN

This is my 4th year in 4-H (I was a cleaver for 2 years as well). I have enjoyed having my steer, heifer, small engines and pheasant projects this year and have had many awesome learning opportunities! This is my home-raised Simmental-Angus steer named Bruiser. I chose my calf as soon as he was born because he had a strong base, a large frame and good colour. He weighed 640lbs on November 11, and he now weighs 1420lbs as of May 21st. Bruiser has grown well through the year and is finishing quite nicely. I'd like to thank Bruce and Dulcie Beasley with Deer River Ranching for purchasing my 2019 calf!

18

KENNEDI MACMILLAN

I am a junior member; this is my 5th year in 4-H but my 2nd year with a Market Steer. I was a cleaver member for the first three years. My calf is a home-raised Angus-Simmental cross named Bandit out of our own herd. Why I picked him is because he was well built and really caught my eye, he has grown good during the year. His starting weigh was 610lbs and as of May 21st he weighs 1360lbs. My favourite part about 4-H is training and leading my calves. I’d really like to thank Grandma and Papa with R&L Farms for buying my calf last year!

19

SPENCER MACMILLAN

I am a senior member and president in the Dryland Multi 4-H club. This is my 9th year in 4-H and I have 4 projects this year – market steer, heifer, small engines and pheasants. I have been a Hanna District Key Member for the last 3 years and have really enjoyed the opportunities and connections this role has given me. This year has been a crazy year full of change and pushing every member to think outside the box on how they can market their steer. This year I chose to take a Simmental-Angus cross out of my 4-H herd, he is a moderate framed calf and is finishing well. My steer started at 630lbs and he now weighs 1285lbs as if May 21st. He will have a good fat cover and carries his width across his back to his hind quarters. I’d like to thank my last year’s buyer, Plover Lake Ranching for their continued support! 20

THANK YOU! Firstly, we want to send a huge thank-you to all our buyers and sponsors for the current and past years. We know this is a difficult year for many and just want to express our most heartfelt appreciation for all your support! Without all of you and your support our 4H club would not be what it is today. It is through our supporters that our members are learning what it means to be part of a community, whether its by supporting our events, purchasing a calf, speaking at our functions, or a donation of your time, you are demonstrating what it means to be leader and a member of the community.

We can’t say it enough, thank-you!
