Welcome to the 11th Annual No Borders Select Sale with consignments from seven Manitoba and Saskatchewan breeders plus the DRD Charolais dispersal. Once again, the quality is very strong from top to bottom, with the breeders digging deep to share the genetics they have been striving to produce.

There are whites, tans and reds for you to choose from, including some Full French and a feature lot, which is the pick of the High Bluff bred heifers again this year. Yes, there is something for everyone here and we are broadcasting live on DLMS again. All the sale animals are videoed and available for viewing at bylivestock.com.

NO BORDERS SELECT SALE DELIVERY

The consignors and sale manager will assist with delivery to central points in Canada to a maximum of 300 km at a cost of $75 per animal. Distance trucking can be obtained through H.S. Knill Co. Ltd. at 877-442-3106. Delivery is at the seller’s convenience but will be as soon as practical. Extra costs, such as export fees, etc., are the responsibility of the buyer. All risk is assumed by the buyer.

INSURANCE

The animals become the responsibility of the buyers as soon as sold. Lois McRae, 204-573-5192, will be available on sale day to handle your insurance needs.

• Bull Calf Wintering Program is available until April 30 for $900, payable sale day. This will include a semen test, bulls must be insured.

• No delivery is offered on the dispersal but management will assist with arrangements.

HBSF PICK OF THE BRED HEIFERS

I’m not sure if to date we have had a more uniform, consistent and powerful group of bred heifers. While we might have our favourite few, we’ll leave it up to you to determine which is the best female in the pen. Females on offer include some impressive females from our embryo program, and females from the cow families that have raised some of our high selling bulls over the years.

We have 22 bred heifers to choose from bred to the following service sires: KAYR Deputy 716G, CCC Tried and True 8507 P, High Bluff Hendrix 152H, D R Monsoon 45 and DC/MD Chisholm H1386 P. The majority of the heifers are bred to KAYR Deputy. When we saw the Deputy calves at Johnson Charolais, we were impressed with their calving ease, hair coat, temperament, exceptional growth, marketability and the consistency of the sire group, both on the male and female side. All females were preg checked on September 15th. Most females preg checked safe to first AI. Due dates range from January 20-February 12th. Exposed to DC/MD Chisholm H1386 P until July 18th.

Our bred heifers spend the summer and fall on a native pasture and just got moved to a pasture closer to home for the end of fall/beginning of winter. They will stay out on pasture and be supplemented with bale grazing and silage once the grass begins to run out. or the snow gets too deep. A few weeks before calving we move them to the home pasture. We slowly develop our bred heifers for calving with plenty of exercise. Terms- The heifer can be selected after the sale or we will calve out our heifers and the buyer can select their pick prior to our bull sale on March 18, 2021. If a female with a bull calf is selected we will retain an in herd use semen interest on him.

When Helge came to picture and video this female, his first comment was she is a fancy female. And I couldn’t agree more. When digging into the bred heifer pen this year, we decided to pick this female because she is from the top of the pen. We were always told to put good ones in the sale and that’s what this female is. She is flat out good. The only reason she is in the sale is I still have her mama and a sister. She is the type of female that will crank out those bull calves as well as build a strong female herd. This female has the hip, the depth and length that we strive for here as well as a strong hoof and a great temperament. You won’t be disappointed in this female. We sure haven’t been disappointed in this cow family.

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

DISPUTES: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

BREEDER GUARANTEE – FEMALES: As per the Canadian Charolais Association Code of Ethics, copies available at the settlement desk can picked up by the buyer at any time.

Hello Friends, Aquaintances and Fellow Cattlemen, Everyone knows there will be a Final Round-up. It’s been quite a trail, but it’s time to slow down. The mind is willing but the body doesn’t agree. The cows on offer are a select group of females that raise bulls that the commercial market is demanding and heifers that will produce more of the same.

My bulls usually end up selling to repeat buyers. One heifer sold at the No Borders sale produced a bull calf that won the Charolais Charbray International Virtual Show.

The Charolais cattle industry has been great, always learning things and meeting worldwide cattlemen and women who help make this one of the best breeds going.
