’ We are very proud to provide this year’s fundraiser heifer. The female we have donated is a female that is backed by 2 powerful cow families. Stemming from the HF Evening Tinge cow and backed by the Oakleaf cow and Harvestor. We feel this female will make a great junior prospect and a strong long-term female in anyone’s herds.
1. The final bid in each round will denote the amount of that bidder’s donation. e.g. Round 1 - Final Bid is $300.00 to Randy Mitchell. Randy’s donation is $300.00. Round 2 - Final bid is $250.00 to Tom Jones. Tom’s donation is $250.00. Round 3 - The female is re-auctioned on a downward scale until no further bids are received at the low of $10.00. 2. Each $10 purchased (donated) represents once chance in the final draw. e.g. Randy Mitchell has 30 chances. Tom Jones has 25 chances and so on down the scale to the final $10 donation worth one chance each. 3. One ticket for every $10 donated, bearing the contributor’s name will be put into a draw barrel. 4. At the end of the sale, one ticket will be drawn, with the person winning the heifer.
A
gain, it is my pleasure to be working with the Northern Alberta Angus Club in the 41st Annual Sale at Camrose. Shane and I have toured all the farms this year and believe the cattle on offer are from the top of each of the consignor’s herds. Always a testament to this group. The sale has seen so many great animals come through this ring and will continue because of how the consignors believe selling their finest is a priority to have success in the business. It has been a very trying year for the folks up here, with the amount of rain we had. June 1 wasn’t looking so good at all and it rained that fine day; and never stopped in a lot of areas making this fall a very trying one for all. As the tours commenced though, the enthusiasm shown by the consignors was so positive because one thing the cattle had was lots of green grass and looked so good on the pastures. The offering this year consists of new and exciting bloodlines with the top cow families from each of the herds displayed. When writing this, again, this year was hard to do; I have to thank Dennis Ericson for his services for 40 years at the sale. He is a man of honor, loyalty and a breed leader in this industry. When you see him at the sale, take a minute to thank him for everything he has done for this event. I would like to thank again the club and all the supporters of this event last year; your commitment and loyalty in this sale is second to none. If myself or any member of the sale staff can assist you, please feel free to call us or better yet come down to the sale on November 16 at Camrose. Mark Holowaychuk OBI LIVESTOCK LTD. PAGE 1

SERVICE: EXPOSED TO AVELYN EPIC 05'17 MARCH 23 TO JUNE 1 2019. DUE IN JAN 2020. Avelyn Lady 31'18 is a feature bred from us here at Avelyn. With great sires like Gumbo Gulch Creed 94S and Young Dale Xcaliber 32X on both sides of the pedigree I can assure you she has been a hot topic of much discussion by the crew here asking the question " Why would you sell her?" The answer is simple. The great ones sell themselves. She carries a ton of power and is as long spined as we could possibly desire. She feminine and fancy fronted with a disposition I would like to breed into all of our females. She carries service to our Epic bull who should add that lower dimension and quarter that we have seen in his first crop of offspring this past spring.

Avelyn Lady 031G is a very attractive heifer that has been an eye catcher all summer long! Thick and stout with massive rib shape yet still that fanciness and feminity that helps your eyes spot her every time you are in the pasture. Her sire Avelyn Epic 05'17 is a son of the DMM Stache 72Z and his Legendary mother DMM Miss Essence 61W who had an illustrious show career in their time. The dam of this heifer traces back 3 generations to MJLC Lady 8S. This cow I would dare say is our most productive purchase out of the Northern Select sale ever without a doubt!! From top selling bulls to several females retained in herd through the generations. This cow family flat out works. Don't miss the opportunity to own one today. AVELYN PRIDE 707'19 - LOT 6

Here is another Avelyn Apollo Creed 94C daughter. She is a direct daughter out of our highly productive as well as number one embryo donor cow 707W. This heifer expresses great angularity and femininity in her profile. She is sharp and sweet headed as they come. Creed 94C has added a great set of female daughters to our herd with great extension and added length as well as some of the most correct udders we have bred for to date. With Sitz Alliance 6595 in the Grandams pedigree and Kruggerand 410H in the dam’s side there is a lot of maternal power here in a young female. Jr's and fellow breeders alike take a look here. She will be an asset to any program.

A daughter of Werner Flat Top out of an EXAR Upshot cow, 21G is definitely front pasture material. Very feminine, loads of capacity, long spined and thick, 21G screams mother cow. Maternal strength is braided throughout 21G’s pedigree, the maternal EPD’s place her in the top ten percent of the breed which if you viewed the dam of 21G you would have no doubt. A moderate framed female, the dam of 21G is a picture-perfect cow with a flawless udder and tremendous capacity. Her individual performance, her phenotype and her pedigree make her as close to a no miss female as you can get.

SERVICE: A.I. TO ELLINGSON TOP SHELF 5050 ON APRIL 15. SAFE TO A.I. DATE. Country Lane Royal Lass 3F is one of those heifers that I am not too sure why I agreed to let her sell. Like Rob used to tell me, “You have to sell the good ones too.” So here she is...this Sweetheart is an absolute beauty. She has tremendous neck extension and carries that length throughout her body. Her Dam was purchased in Brooking’s Open Invitational Sale as a heifer calf from Riverfront Angus. She has not disappointed with this first daughter. Her Sire, SAV Sensation 5615, stems back to the great SAV Blackcap May 4136, that has produced over $8.6 million in progeny sales. She is carrying service to Ellingson Top Shelf 5050 and this combination is sure to produce something Special!

Country Lane Royal Lass 28G is a maternal sister to 3F. When you see both of these daughters, all you can say is “Consistency”. 28G exemplifies a lot of the same qualities as her sister. She has an attractive front end, with loads of depth, shape of body, and natural thickness. Her sire, Ellingson Homegrown 6035, has done a remarkable job on his first set of calves. They come out with lots of natural thickness and have continued to grow throughout the summer. 28G’s Dam continues to impress me as she keeps on producing the good ones. She carries the same traits as those of her daughters along with a great set of feet and legs and a near perfect udder. Because she is young in years and knowing that she is having another heifer calf next year, are the only reasons that I am allowing both of these tremendous females on offer. Juniors be sure to check this Darling out!

I don’t sell Erica’s. The last Erica I sold was in 2014 in the Northern Select sale to Dennis Patrick in BC for $6,000. So, to put things mildly I really really like this cow family. This is my foundational cow family, if it was up to me all my cows would be Dwajo Jes Erica cows. 79G’s mother 72B, has been a phenomenal dam. She is deep bodied, smooth fronted and has a wicked udder. 72B has had 4 calves: 1st calf was a heifer bull that we sold in our bull sale, 2nd calf is a female I kept for myself which has raised her first calf this year; her bull calf is in the show pen and had weaned off at 912lbs. 72B’s third calf was high selling black angus bull in our on target bull sale this past spring. He sold for $12,000 to Lake Road Angus. And now you have the opportunity to get in on this lineage with her 4th calf. If you have any questions on 79G or 72B or what any of my other Erica cows have done, please ask I can talk for hours about this cow family.

I hope you own a spot light because this heifer belongs under one. A real sweet looking show heifer, she has tons of depth, with and power with a fancy front. She comes out of a functional cow family that has been known for having strong production and longevity. As an added bonus she is out of Dwajo Really Windy who has been doing great things on the farm, making for great heifer bulls and outstanding females. 90G’s dam 124B has produced a bull hat we sold in our bull sale to Murray & Cindy Kalbfleisch and a heifer we sold in the Northern Sale to Steve Hodgetts. I am keeping a bred heifer that is a full sister to this heifer for myself. But really, I don’t need to write about this heifer because all stars shine in the dark.

When we sat down and tried to figure out who we should flush our best cow to we figured using the hottest AI sire that year was bound to be a sure bet. 5G turned out to be exactly what we expected. This flashly little lady has that look at me presence, you will have to appreciate the length and power this female exhibits. This heifer will make a great junior show female and when finished go out and make a front pasture type of cow.

127G is a heifer who comes from one of our most productive and proven cow families. She’s a moderate framed, correct, well balanced female who still has plenty of capacity and power. Her dam and Grand Dam were both shown successfully in 4-H and at Junior Shows not to mention, the Dam is a moderate second calver who has a real correct udder with lots of milking ability and produced one of our top bulls last year. Her granddam was my first purchase from grandpa and the foundation of my herd. All of Rosebud Cub 31Y’s (granddam) progeny to date have made the cut to be retained in the herd as replacement females or the bull pen. 127G is a heifer who is backed by promising genetics and the phenotype to prove that she has a promising future ahead of her. Opportunity knocks here! 23G could be one of very few Nexus 1378 daughters available through the fall sale season. Nexus semen is off the open market in Canada so genetic chances like this are rare. 23G is an E.T. daughter out of Stacey 63Y a cow that had an unfortunately short but very productive life at Lucky 7 and couldn't seem to leave any daughters behind. She's the dam to Simon Says 63A; a red carrier SAV Pioneer 7301 son that we raised and used exclusively in our program who is now working at Handhills Colony. 23G is our youngest heifer on offer but certainly gives nothing up to her pen mates. So many females have been retained from this line our cow family number system is getting confusing! The dam to this heifer 422A is a maternal powerhouse with a beautiful udder that rings the bell with every calf. Three daughters are working in herd including 422D; dam to the 452G heifer on offer. 422G is a heifer that caught our eye from early on. 17G is a stellar product from a black-hided first-calver, Superior 170E. The Superior line traces back to the great Dwajo Superior 4H cow who was a donor for Soo-Line and at one-time- a staple in the Canadian red angus industry. Her sire, Goodfella, has been our best Red Angus purchase to date. He was a multiple division winner in Denver, but more importantly has left us with moderate framed, highly maternal daughters beautiful in their phenotype and udder composition. Goodfella progeny are commonly noted for being wedge shaped calving ease options with an abundance of hair. Maternal grandsire, HF Transit 3C was one of the top sellers from Hamilton’s in spring of 2016 and has left us with a set of very functional, performance-oriented females.17G is a long-spined beauty admired for her muscle shape through her lower third and stifle. She is an extremely balanced female, nice hearted, and capacious in her fore-rib, correct on her feet and legs- exhibiting ideal hind leg structure. 17G is a maternal

The Northern Select Sale to date, has been the only female sale we take part in as consignors. As a result, Rosebud 9G comes straight off the top as OBI's #1 pick. This calf is arguably the best from both our flushes to the $47,500 Brooking Real Estate. Real Estate was our pick of the Brooking bulls when touring in the spring of 2017. Real Estate is calving ease oriented, huge ribbed, square hipped and his dam, Rose 1019, fits the definition of pure perfection. Rosebud 32Y exhibits a balanced and feminine phenotype. She is an ideal cow in terms of her capacity, udder composition, and foot quality. Without a doubt, she has earned her spot as lead donor at our place based on her track record of being a highly consistent and heritable producer. One daughter, BIB 232D, was a past Northern sale highlight and went on to be a multiple division winner for MWC Investments. Rosebud 9G is a model Angus female for the future. Like her lineage would dictate, she exhibits a lot of rib, capacity, and is stamped with that ‘cowy’, maternal look. Rosebud 9G is a deep flanked, long-spined individual who remains free moving and true to her Angus character.

MWC Rosebud 10G is a Baldridge Bronc daughter that we will have out on the show road this fall. Come by the stall at Lloydminster and Farmfair to see her in the flesh. She will also be entered in Agribition and we would show her there if the new owner would like. The Bronc x Rosebud progeny at MWC are a combination that has worked very well for us. Many of visitors have seen the bred heifers and what they look like. Just how we imagined them to look like. We have a full sister retained in the herd. Powerful, big boned and ribbed with the ability to become future top end females in our herd. 10G herself is a good footed, well made, straight topped female that traces back to the Rosebud Cow Family from Crescent Creek. 3Z Goes back to our 71T that we flushed very successfully. A lot of great cows backing up Rosebud 10G.

SERVICE: A.I. ON MARCH 31 TO STEVENSON TURNING POINT. EXPOSED APRIL 13 TO JULY 1 TO COUNTRY LANE JUST DO IT 8D. SAFE TO A.I. DATE FOR AN EARLY JAN CALF. Here is a female that is very sound structured and has a lot of overall dimension and volume. When Mark was out doing selections; ironically, he had this heifer as well as her full sister on his selection list. We decided to let this wonderful female go but couldn’t quite let go of both. We had 6F’s mother out a few falls ago with a monster bull calf along side, that tells you what we think of her. When down at Denver I was very impressed by the Stevenson Turning Point progeny and having her mated and confirmed to an early service to this exciting sire should only add value. Look for an early return on investment on this female.

It is not often that we let our ET females go to sale, especially not out of our deceased Undiscovered 3U Donor. One of the greatest females to ever grace the river hills at the ranch, 3U, left her mark producing some great herd sires and females that are stamped with her added rib shape, muscle and hair. This terrific female is one that we feel will find some friends. She is a pleasure to be around and is our type; easy fleshing, soft made and efficient. We think an awful lot of this sweetheart and Quinn has chosen one of her flush mates as her 4-H heifer this year, the heifers are like peas in a pod.

A terrific heifer with a little added growth to her. She is extra long spined and has that cow look to her already. We sold a maternal sister to her last year to Schmidt’s as our high selling calf at $5,000. This heifer follows her very similar in design; one that combines the best of both sides of her pedigree. We purchased her sire, Just Do It, a Justified son, from Partingtons as a calving ease specialist but have been so pleased with the calves he has moved on to cover the cow herd as well. Both her sire and dam are as sure footed and sound structured as you could ask for. This young lady is built to last and will be around for a long time. Juniors take a serious look here! PAGE 23

Angel has been the type of heifer that was always easy to pick out in the pasture for all the right reasons. The Angel cow family has been a strong one dating back to the 11P cow purchased from the Hips Dispersal, and on the paternal side she is as strong as it gets being out of Longitude and her dam being a YY Designer daughter who has many top cows producing in our herd and her Grand dam being by a Smash son we purchased from Lazy MC Angus. Yet the most exciting part we feel about this heifer might be her mating to our new herd bull Wyoming, we acquired this spring from RSL Red Angus that serviced a large part of our heifers this spring, don’t miss this brood cow prospect.

WAVENY ATALANTA 13F - LOT 70
SERVICE: EXPOSED FROM MAY 15 TO AUG 15 TO U-2 UPPER CUT 280F. OBSERVED BRED MAY 16. DUE FEB 23. Atlanta 13F is a very powerful female with a bright future ahead of her. She carries herself so well in the pasture with keeping her feminity and style. Again, she bred to U-2 Upper Cut 280F, a bull I really admired when I was down south searching for a new herdbull. Her sire, Cudlobe Timeless 14A has done a sup job for us with many of females and bold sold out of him for us.

Rob Holowaychuk
Last year the club decided to create this fund in memory of Rob Holowaychuk. The members involved believed the Juniors are very important each and every year as did dad. So, this year the first ever winners of the 3 - $1,000 credits to the 2019 Northern Select Sale were: Lane Fulks, Sarah Hodgetts and Tyler Schmidt.
The Rob Holowaychuk Memorial Fund will be awarded as follows for the 2019 Sale: 3 Awards per year will be drawn to the Juniors who purchase an animal at the previous Northern Select Sale and the value will be $1000 per award and to be used for the 2020 Sale. Open to all Junior members who purchase an animal at the 2019 Northern Select Angus Sale. The winners will be notified in writing. The Sales Credit will be awarded over and above any Junior Incentives that the winners may be eligible to receive.

SERVICE: A.I. ON MARCH 28 TO BALDRIDGE BRONC. EXPOSED FROM MAY 21 TO JULY 1 TO ALLANDALE SEEDSTOCK 41F. SAFE TO A.I. FOR A JAN 5 CALF. Last year this heifer was offered up in her entirely towards the Rob Holowaychuk Memorial Fund and she commanded $8,250 selling to a number of breeders in the sale and many others as well. A great testament to all involved and we like to thank each and every one of you. So, the deal was, 42F would go back to Wayne Stetson’s place and he would breed her for us again and now she sells at the end of the sale to lucky buyer this year. Thanks again to Wayne for taking on the responsibility of her over the past year. The funds again will go towards the Memorial fund where the money will be used for the Juniors involved in the sale. Allandale Tiptop 42F is a daughter of U2 Prime Cut 162D; he was the High Selling Black Angus Bull at the 2017 U2 Bull Sale. She is fancy fronted, powerful and will be a front-end pasture type of cow. She is in calf very early to Baldridge Bronc for an interesting coupon. We have now all seen what that lineage looks like.
