We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and give a bit of background on our operation. We are a family run ranch located northeast of White Fox, Saskatchewan. Our operation consists of a herd of 40 Purebred Hereford females and 100 commercial females. The commercial cattle industry is our focus! We are very firm believers that our purebred herd needs to be driven by the traits and attributes that are most important in any commercial herd: soundness, longevity, udder quality, and consistency. Our cows are more moderate framed and stout with lots of hair, as this type works best for us with our very damp on udder quality across the board in our herd, keeping bulls only off the best, no fuss cows with good udder suspension and small teats. You will notice we try to provide pictures of the mom’s udders at calving time so you can see for yourself. We want our cattle to last for our customers, as we do for ourselves, and cows lasting for at least 8-10 years is the goal around here. We test our purebred genetics in our commercial herd to make sure they work, and the bulls in our offering have both purebred and commercial siblings at work in the herd, as herd sires and momma cows. Our bull calf group goes through a strict culling process, with cuts at birth, before pasture, weaning and all the way up until the sale. Bulls have to perform both on the cow and on a modest feed regimen to give us the best feel for how their calves will perform all along the way.
Bulls are weighed within 24 hours of birth. We quiet weaned the bull calves off their moms in late September. From there, the bulls were developed all fall and winter on a high roughage, high protein TMR of alfalfa silage, whole oats, ProPel, along with a full mineral package to promote yearling growth and development. The bulls have been fully vaccinated with vision 8 somnus, Bovishield gold fp5, Safeguard and treated with delouse products periodically since weaning. Bulls will be delivered vaccinated for anthrax and foot-rot.
This is our second year selling our bulls through DLMS Farmgate Auctions and we are very excited to introduce the offering to you! Our bull pen is not huge in numbers, but we feel it is high in quality from top to bottom.
We want to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to look through our offering. If we can be of any help leading up to and on sale day please contact us! WE encourage you to come have a tour through the bull pen!

KING is as special as they come, and we at Torch View Cattle will spend a lifetime as breeders to produce one as neat as 103K. Reserve Champion Polled Junior Bull Calf @ Agribition 2022. King made a lot of friends at Agribition. The mating of our 44C donor to Empower just worked, as we expected it would. He puts together everything we look for in a herdsire—big expressive muscle pattern, sound structure with the ability to cover ground, big belly, big nuts and an exceptionally attractive package, with a great head. Not to mention, he is out of an exceptional mother cow. With his boastful performance, he still maintains great calving ease and a smooth design. We are looking to share this unique individual. he has a show career ahead of him this upcoming summer and fall .
Terms: 1/2 semen interest, 1/2 possession, with show rights retained until the end of 2024. We welcome all inquiries.

University studies in Wyoming and data from Montana and Colorado lend credence to the following conclusions:
1. The birth weight itself influences calving ease by 65%
2. The female has 60-70% influence on birth weight of her calf
3. The bull has 30-40% influence on birth weight of his progeny
4. Pelvic measurement and angle, as well as the shape of the calf have 35-40% influence on calving ease
5. Length of gestation greatly affects birth weight. A fetus can gain over one pound per day in the last days of gestation
6. Weather and temperature the last 30 days affect the length of gestation
7. Size and maturity of the cow influence calving ease
If you are not physically recording birth weights, guessing is as accurate as driving with a broken speedometer—what’s thought to be 55 MPH may in fact be 65 of 70 MPH, and what’s thought to be 70-80 lbs may actually be 80-90 lbs. Remember, everything is relative. Increased growth, frame and performance will increase BW. A longer bodied calf will weigh more. If a calf is expected to have genetics for growth, it will display this prior to birth as well as after. As a rule of thumb, it takes a calf weighing 86 lbs at birth to finish at 1200-1250 lbs. A cow should easily give birth to a calf weighing 8% of her own body weight. Thus a 1200 lbs cow should give birth to a 96 lbs calf with ease.
Continued selection for low birth weight will ultimately reduce the mature sizes and performance of your cattle.
