JUNE 3RD
Greenshields Chad Rutledge 780-806-3014
Wainwright District Edgerton 4-H Multiclub & Greenshields 4-H Club Thank you for considering the purchase of one of these fantastic beef steers. All of the members have worked hard to produce a great group of market finished animals. These animals are typically in the top tier of grading and marbling quality, making this an excellent option to fill your freezer. We appreciate your consideration and interest, recognizing the uncertain times we are experiencing. Â As part of the 4-H motto, "Learn to do by doing': we encourage our young members to participate In marketing their steers to businesses and individuals to the local community in order for them to gain confidence and understanding of how business works. We have changed the format of both our Show and Sale to Online to comply with 'Safe Distancing' and other Public Health recommendations. While challenging, it has provided the opportunity to learn about responding to change, being dynamic, and not giving up. This year you are more than likely receiving this publication or invitation via an email invite following up a phone call, by parent delivery, or in another creative manner. Â The steers are guaranteed to be eligible for slaughter at a either Meatco or Provost Packers. We will do our best to accommodate first choice, but have a designated number of butcher slots at each. The club will arrange delivery, free of charge following the sale. The purchaser will be responsible for the processing fees, and will need to contact the processor for butchering preferences. Most buyers prefer to use the beef for their own purposes, but may not need a whole animal. If that is the case, please contact one of our beef leaders directly and we will get you on a list to fill partial animal orders out of the online sale. Some buyers choose to re-sell the animal at market price as a Tax benefit, and we will arrange delivery of those animals to Provost Livestock Exchange for the Friday immediately following the sale. On behalf of all the members of the Edgerton and Greensheilds 4-H Clubs, thank you very much for considering the purchase of this great source of locally, responsibly raised, Alberta beef. Without the community support and you, as a prospective buyer, we would not be able to function as the successful club we have become. We sincerely thank you for the Investment In our club and the future of the kids. You are appreciated for all of your support and generosity.
Show & Sale 2020 CHANGES TO THIS YEAR'S AUCTION PROCESS To ensure the safety of the community, 4-H members and their families during COVJD-19, we have decided to sell the clubs steers via Farm Gate Timed Auctions, a platform hosted by DLMS. The sale lots will open for bidding on our traditional sale date, June 3rd at 8 AM, and the sale will finish, at 5:30 pm. The 4-H auction will appear on the http://www.farmgatetimedauctions.com as Wainwright & District 4-H Beef Sale. We recommend visiting the website ahead of the auction date to create a buyers account. If you have difficulty there is a detailed instruction at the end of the catalog, or it is available by request. WHEN CREATING YOUR ACCOUNT – Please enter your last name as Name-Butcher preference. (Ie Trefiak-Meatco). Some of the steers will be going to the butcher immediately after the sale, and this naming format will help us to accommodate your preferences. The steers are all booked in with a guaranteed butcher date within a week of the sale at Provost Packers and Meatco. We will do our best to accommodate butcher preference, but in respect of this years high demand on our local butchers due to large packing plant closures, we have had to book as close as we can to definitive numbers. We can not guarantee which butcher animals will go to due to having to pre-book spots, but we do guarantee a slaughter date within a week of the sale date. The animals will be weighed by Provost Livestock Exchange on Monday June 1st, and we would like to thank them for providing that service, as well as the many years of support to our club. Weights will be available to view Tuesday, June 2nd. The bidding will be in $/lb. We recognize that a whole animal is a lot of meat. If you are interested in purchasing a partial animal, we encourage you to partner up with friends and family to share an animal. If that isn't an option, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your purchasing needs by trying to partner you with another buyer in the same position. Edgerton: Kurt Trefiak, (780) 619-2224 OR Becky Pedersen, (780) 842-7142 Greenshields: Chad Rutledge, (780) 806-3014 OR Hannah Poulin, (780) 806-1128 We recommend after logging in that you go to “My Account”, then select the “Notifications” tab, and enable text and email notifications. This will notify you if you have been outbid on an animal.

Show & Sale 2020 VIRTUAL SHOW & DISPLAY This year has been an interesting one to say the least! It has provided both our members and leaders opportunity to learn new skills, adapt, and to be resilient. In the spirit of the 4-H Motto, we are all Learning to do by Doing this year! We are very proud of all of the work our members have put into all of the projects among the clubs, and couldn't let the Achievement Day slide by without finding a way to showcase their efforts. Modelling after the format many of the beef industry Seedstock Shows used this spring, we created a Facebook page to host a Virtual Show. The show will run from May 20th to June 3rd. In addition to the beef show, we will showcase the other projects in the clubs as well. We invite you to 'tune in' and follow the page. On Facebook, search for:
Wainwright District 4-H Achievement Day https://www.facebook.com/wainwrightdistrict4H

How to Participate in this DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction With Extended Bidding 1) Visit https://farmgatetimedauctions.ca , click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your user name and pass word to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. 2) You can choose your favorite lots in this sale at this time. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity. 3) The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2/lb bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3.50/lb into the system, the computer will bid $2.05/lb for you but if some one else bids $2.10/lb, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2.15. The system will look after your interest to a maximum that you set. If another bidder is on at higher than your $3.50, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. 4) At Closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding for 5 minute if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after 5:30 PM will extend the sale by 5 minutes from the time of that bid. When no bidding occurs for 5 min the computer will declare the sale finished. 5) Within 24 hours of the sale close the Sale consignor will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment and provide butcher contact information for your lot. If you require assistance with using the new DLMS Farm Gate web site, if you don’t understand how to create a favorites list, if you can’t figure out the proxy bid or you just plain want to bid via phone, please talk to any of the DLMS team.
What is Racehorse Style Close? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding and they become outbid on their original lot.
How will Extended Bidding work? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

I have been in 4-H for 8 years now and have nothing but positive things to say about the program. I have tried various projects and I have to say that the beef projects are my favourite. This year was an excellent experience once again, although we are ending differently than past years learning how to show our animals this way is yet again another opportunity to learn and to celebrate all of the hard work that goes into the calves. I would like to thank my last year's buyer, Brain Sparks for supporting the club and myself. Please join us on June 3Â for our online sale!

I have been in 4H for 8 years and it have been a great experience and opportunity to have been able to take in the basics about showing, raising and marketing cattle. Every year I learn something new and it has definitely played a big factor as I continue to enhance my showing career with my purebred herd. My goal I strive for every year is picking out a steer that will be competitive for show day, I don’t know if there’s a better feeling than seeing someone’s calf getting slapped after all the hard work they put into the calf throughout the year. I would like to thank the 4H committee and everyone involved in the past years. Also would like to give a big shoutout to previous buyers, your support is greatly appreciated!

I'm in grade 7 at Wainwright High School. When not working with my 4H calf, I like to visit friends and family, play games, and enjoy being on the Wainwright Wolfpack Lacrosse Team. Knucklehead is my first 4H calf, and this is my first year in 4H. I chose my calf's name because of his stubborn personality at the start, but he has really come a long way since November. My goal was to try something new, meet other people in my community, and have fun. 4H has been a great experience. I am very grateful for my great uncle, Ken Rutledge, and my Grandpa, Ed Rutledge, and my cousin, Ashlynn Rutledge for mentoring me this year.

My name is Wyatt and I am the Vice President of the club. I've been in the 4H program for 4 years and this is my 5th. I have a 4-H calf named Jackson. He is a really nice calf to wash and we are still working on leading him. I wish there was an actual sale this year where all of us 4hers could compete against each other and see everyone again. I would also like to thank my last year buyers Al’s hotshot for all the help purchasing a good calf of mine. Thanks everybody and that’s all about me.

My name is Camrynn Rutledge and I have been in 4-H for 4 years. I am 15 years old and will be celebrating my 16th birthday on sale day! I live in Wainwright and we keep my steer out at my Grandpa's acreage. I have enjoyed working with my steer throughout the winter getting him ready for the 4-H show day and sale. Being in 4-H I have had the opportunity to meet new people and learn life long skills. I wish to thank my Grandpa Ed for all the quality time and knowledge he has shared with me over the past 4 years.

This is my second year in 4H and Short Box has been a bit more challenging then my last years steer, but I’ve enjoyed learning the personalities and challenges of my different steers from year to year. I’d hoped to get more experience in the show ring this year but just like everyone else we have to adapt and I’m looking forward to getting back to our usual 4H show next year. I’d like to thank all of our previous years buyers and thank everyone in advance for coming out to our 2020 sale. I like to give special thanks to last year buyer MJT Cattle Kurt and Shannon Trefiak.

This year I have been elected as president of my club and I have been enjoying the responsibilities that come with it. I would like to thank my previous buyers who come out every year to support the 4H members, encouraging this wonderful method of learning to do by doing. I would also like to give a shout out to the parents for organizing this years sale. Arranging an online auction is completely different from what we are used to and couldn't have been easy. Good luck to all my fellow 4H members.

Female Projects Wainwright District
Behind every good steer is a good cow. While these females are not selling, we are very proud of the work the members have put in on their female projects, and are excited to showcase them! Many of our 4-H members take the money that they earn with their 4-H steers and put it towards purchasing female projects. When supporting the 4-H Beef sales, you truly are helping build the food producers of tomorrow. We again thank you for the interest in our online Show & Sale. We know the format is quite different from what we are all used to, but the enthusiasm has been great! Thank you to the sponsors, the buyers, and the families of all of our 4-H members for the continued support throughout these challenging times!

My other project is a homegrown Simmental steer named Razzle. I am also in two other 4-h clubs with my horses named Misty and Nicki. In the past years of 4-H, I have learned to not be afraid of public speaking and learned the skills to show off my horse and my beef projects in fun shows. I especially love our trips to the mountains to ride horses. I also love to have friends come over to my house because we always go riding. I love getting together with friends to enter the local curling bonspiels in winter.
