“I served as president of the Professional Women in Business Association. As a female student leader straight out of high school, I was intrigued by the organization’s objectives and eager to extend some of my ideas. I was also an Eller Ambassador, and served as the face of the business college by educating incoming high school students about the benefits that Eller has to offer. From my involvement in both organizations, I’ve been blessed with many friendships and a deeper appreciation for service.”

“I got involved in various programs throughout school while I was at Eller, student government, Residence Life, you name it. Making connections throughout the University made for a more impressive resume and a more diverse group of friends. But I don’t think it matters which activity you choose, as long as you put your effort into it. It’s not just about listing clubs on paper. Recruiters want to hear the stories and experiences that you’ve gained from your involvement.” Stephanie White

“I was a four-year member of the UA ice hockey team. I also made sure that I gained as much work experience as I could along the way to my diploma. As my resume continued to build, more job opportunities began to open up. Along with the work experience, interviews began to go much smoother as I had more personal experiences in the field to describe.” Brandon Robinson

You can also get involved with the Eller College as a pre-business student through academic programs by applying for Honors, the Eller Leadership Integrity Training for Excellence (E.L.I.T.E.) for freshmen, or Eller La Paz Learning Community. And, of course, with NCAA sports, arts and cultural activities, and the outdoor recreation opportunities that 300 days of sunshine a year affords, Tucson has a lot to

“I didn’t choose to be in just any club or service activity that was convenient, but specifically the ones that would contribute something to my bigger goals. I developed leadership skills as an E-board member for Eller Scholars and contributed to my community with over 100 hours of hospice volunteer work. One day, someone is going to be sitting across from you at an interview and asking you exactly what you got out of everything that is on your resume.” Nicole Smith

“I heard there was a Merrill Lynch office on Guam, where I’m from, so I sent a letter of interest to a senior financial advisor. We kept in touch until I could meet with him over Christmas break. Study Abroad

A thematic minor program open to Eller College students interested in acquiring knowledge specific to the global business environment.

Travel with your peers to countries such as Argentina, Costa Rica, or India. Or, for a more immersive experience, apply for the London Internship Program, the Barcelona Internship Program, or the Global Cohort, through which you can take your first-semester cohort classes from Eller professors in China.

Spend a semester at a partner institution in England, Spain, Italy, Australia, or a country of your choice.

“I participated in the London Internship program. As I come up on graduation, I still say that this was the greatest opportunity I took advantage of, not just for the addition to my resume, but because the experience I had in Europe provided me with an education about other cultures that is immeasurable. I paid for it through a combination of student loans, personal savings, and birthday money. I would advise all future students to take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad.” 6

“China has been by far one of the best experiences of my life. Along with discovering a new culture, I have gotten to know so many amazing people. When you live, eat, study, and travel with the same people for two months, you form an indescribable bond. These are people that I will hopefully remain friends with for the rest of my life! From climbing the Great Wall to learning to eat with chopsticks and finding our way around the city, this really has been an experience that I will never forget.” Taylor Heinlein

“I had the opportunity to go on the Business Ethics Study Tour in Costa Rica. In the morning, we would hear guest speakers at special sites, and by the afternoon we were white water rafting, zip-lining through the rainforest, or sighting monkeys on the beach. It was an awesome experience! It is very important to study abroad, learn in different contexts, and meet people of other cultures and backgrounds.”

“I am an international student at the UA. Thus, my background is, in itself, international. Through Eller, I was also able to study abroad in Barcelona for a semester in 2008. I learned that marketing is not the same everywhere, but it is malleable and needs to satisfy the needs of different cultures and organizations. My trip was funded with the help of my parents, but I received a scholarship from Eller as well as from the CEA program that I went with, both of which helped me cover expenses.” Luz Gossmann
