A NOTE FROM THE EDITORS Thank you to the whole team for pulling together our Spring 2020 issue. I’d especially like to thank our editor-in-chief, Kallan Koch, for doing the heavy lifting.

Todd Adair*

No one could have predicted how this spring has gone, with the coronavirus pandemic affecting just about every aspect of our lives. Emergencies like this have a way of compelling us to see what’s truly important in our lives, from prioritizing family and friends to finding ways to give back to our communities.

With the warm weather upon us, demand for Muskoka real estate continues as high or higher than ever. Perhaps it’s because the crisis has produced a shift in how we view our time, both at work and away from it. Instead of a travel vacation abroad, people are realizing the value of spending quality time closer to home, surrounded by family. And there’s no better place in the world to do that, than in the sparkling air and relaxed lifestyle of Muskoka.

President Sales Representative

Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and September – particularly in Muskoka! We experienced the most bizarre spring…snow one week followed by temperatures in the 30’s the next week. We can all agree this has been a year like no other and we are thankful we are on the precipice of summer and able to cautiously leave our homes!

Laura Morrison*

Sales Representative/Editor

With the warm weather I was pleased to hear from buyers eager to find a cottage. They have been cooped up far too long and are craving fresh air, lakes and space…in a lower density area…Muskoka is just what they’re looking for!! We are thrilled to report (as of today) only 19 reported cases of COVID-19 throughout the entire outbreak spanning all of Muskoka! As long as we all continue

Leadership guru and best-selling author John Maxwell once said, “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” That’s an excellent maxim to apply to the challenge we are all living through these days. Challenges are one thing; it’s how we react to them that can either slow us down or propel us forward.

Kallan Koch Chief Editor

Our story about Pride Marine Group is a perfect illustration of how the company has overcome the very real challenge of selling boats during a shutdown, and in the process developed a creative and interesting way to interact with customers near and far. They’ve even found a

to respect the guidelines we hope Muskoka will be “coronavirus free”!! This issue highlights a wonderful organization – CNIB Lake Joe who have launched virtual programs for those with sight loss. We have only recently experienced isolation but this is an everyday reality for these folks – please consider supporting them in this initiative. We are also pleased to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Urban Rustic Living, a local design house who is launching a new line of Canadian-made furniture!! I believe we should support local whenever possible! And last, but certainly not least…take in these extraordinary properties in the pages that follow and happy summer everyone!! Be safe!!

way to celebrate local frontline workers that only a company like Pride can do: by giving away a weekend of boating fun on the Muskoka lakes. For the rest of us, the shutdown is a golden opportunity to reflect on what matters in life. Since for now we can’t invite friends up for the weekend, the cottage could become a private family oasis and a means of growing closer than ever, as well as a chance to deepen our connection with nature. These are the kinds of connections that will stay with us long after the crisis ends, even for the rest of our lives.

“I’M A LOW-RISK INVESTOR... MEDIUM RISK AT MOST.” We often hear this phrase when it comes to investing.

What does it actually mean? Let’s take the current market correction as an example—what we’re experiencing due to COVID-19. Suppose the investment portfolio of a low-risk investor doesn’t react as anticipated. Instead of weathering the storm, this traditional balanced portfolio with a mix of stocks and bonds is affected by the chaos and volatility. In many cases, years of hard earned growth are lost. If this sounds familiar, let me tell you that there’s a silver lining to this negative situation. You now know that your portfolio doesn’t actually reflect your risk tolerance.

Here are five strategies to consider after a market correction: 1. PREPARE YOURSELF MENTALLY TO BE A BUYER When it comes to shopping, consumers are always looking for a deal. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are prime examples of how low prices spur higher demand. However, investors aren’t as excited when stocks go on sale. In the stock market, a herd mentality takes over and investors tend to avoid stocks resulting in a bleak view of the market. In fact, this may be your chance to buy shares in a quality company at a discount. 2. PROACTIVELY REBALANCE YOUR PORTFOLIO You may want to review and adjust your asset allocation by reducing holdings that have performed well, and

increasing equity holdings in quality companies that have underperformed. This may also be a great time to invest your cash on hand. 3. INVEST IN ALTERNATIVES Having a diversified portfolio can provide additional upside protection. Consider adding real estate, private equity, private debt—there are many options to discuss with a financial expert. Traditionally, alternative investments have a low correlation to the stock market, and may help cushion the impact of a future stock market downturn. 4. INCREASE YOUR CASHFLOW It’ll take time for this pandemic to end and for markets to recover. There may be opportunities to invest in companies with historically strong and sustainable dividends. This can be a great way to receive passive income during these challenging times. 5. LOOK TO MARKETS OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA North American Indices only make up about 40% of the stock market value. This means that there may be unique opportunities in foreign markets as they’re often at different stages of the business cycle. In these unprecedented times, it’s important for investors to determine what’s worth focusing on rather than what to tune out. Your future self may thank you for doing something today.

THE FUN IS STILL ON! By Martha Uniacke Breen

In response to COVID-19, CNIB Lake Joe has launched virtual programs for Canadians impacted by blindness. From coffee chats to arts and crafts, trivia sessions and even campfire singalongs, the CNIB Lake Joe team is offering opportunities for people with sight loss to experience the magic of CNIB Lake Joe from the comfort of their homes. In addition, campers have been invited to share their suggestions for virtual camp programs.

MAY 2020 17 â–

“PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE TO CONNECT IS ONE OF OUR MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF CAMP.”

T

o continue to enrich lives and make memories, CNIB Lake Joe is transforming its camp in Muskoka into an all-season operation, complemented with year-round virtual programming. Being connected throughout the year plays an important role in building and maintaining the sense of community that is a cornerstone of CNIB Lake Joe. The goal is for everyone to be able to enjoy camp, free of any barriers, including transportation or registration fees. “For almost 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has provided lifechanging programs for people living with sight loss,” says Monique Pilkington, Executive Director, CNIB Lake Joe. “In this unprecedented time, the critical nature of what we do – reducing social isolation by enhancing lives, making memories and building independence – must continue. As we work to transform CNIB Lake Joe to an all-season, year-round operation, virtual programming provides the opportunity to engage participants across the country.” CNIB Lake Joe is also reaching out to campers to ensure they can take advantage of more than 200 new virtual programs offered by the CNIB Foundation. One of the organization’s

18 MAY 2020 ■

hallmark programs, Vision Mate, has been adapted to support Canadians with sight loss during the pandemic. Through the virtual program, Vision Mate volunteers engage directly with individuals who are blind or partially sighted, at least once a week, by phone or online, to address the negative ramifications of social isolation. These amazing volunteers also break down barriers to essential services by delivering groceries or prescriptions if needed. “While social isolation may be new to some of us, it is an everyday reality for a lot of our campers,” says Eugene Chong, General Manager, CNIB Lake Joe. “Providing an opportunity for everyone to connect is one of our most important aspects of camp.”

A VIRTUAL DOCK-TO-DOCK FUNDRAISER IN SUPPORT OF CNIB LAKE JOE Each year, the CNIB Lake Joe Vision Team and its fundraising committee, host a themed event to help raise funds for the camp. This year, having to forgo a large scale event due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, the team and committee are excited to announce a re-envisioned FUNdraising event: The CNIB Lake Joe Dock-to-Dock Party with a Purpose, where everyone will connect on each other’s docks, virtually, on Saturday August 15th, 2020. More details will become available on the CNIB Lake Joe website: cniblakejoe.ca. The hope is to raise enough funds to transform the camp into a year-round facility and provide bursary assistance to families in need. While the world around us has changed due to COVID-19, the need to raise funds for the CNIB Lake Joe is as crucial as ever. As Eugene Chong, General Manager, CNIB Lake Joe explains, “Due to the pandemic, most of us are experiencing social isolation for the first time. For a child or adult with sight loss, it’s an everyday reality.” To support the virtual dock-to-dock fundraiser, visit cnib.ca/CNIBMuskoka.

A NEW KIND OF CATERING

Ch ef WITH

RenĂŠ

Focused on high-quality ingredients, a simple approach and the love of a good story By Emma Lovell

T

here’s one element common to every meal Chef René prepares. It’s not a magical spice or an exotic oil. It’s not even a master technique or a fancy blade. It’s something very simple. René infuses everything he makes with a story. “I love to talk to people everywhere I go, from all over the world,” he says. “I ask a lot of questions; I listen and I learn.” Behind every Chef René menu are stories from friends, colleagues, clients and strangers. He learned about one of his favourite dishes, grilled beef tenderloin wrapped in a cloth called Lomo al Trapo, from

a client who had recently returned from Colombia. Another staple, Sigara Boregi or Turkish cigar, was inspired by the childhood memories of one of his team members, Hulya, who grew up in Turkey. This storycentred approach has led René to launch his new business, Chef René, offering catering, cooking courses and specialty products designed to bring people together through food. “I want the food I make to remind people of something, to comfort them, to inspire conversation, to create memories,” he says. Chef René’s food is remarkable in its simplicity – he’ll take a few highquality ingredients and combine them in a novel way to create dishes

that are unparalleled in both flavour and presentation. A dish as simple as chicken wings is completely reimagined in his kitchen. Grilled on a thick slab of Himalayan salt and glazed in honey and lemon juice, the wings are a far cry from pub fare: tender, sweet and falling off the bone. According to René, achieving complex and dynamic flavours through a simple cooking method is only possible by using high-quality ingredients. He’s visited farms, kitchens and factories all over the world to uncover the origins of the ingredients he uses, the processes that go into making them, and the stories of the suppliers and producers he works with.

MAY 2020 23 ■

I

t’s extraordinary when you find people who believe in what they’re making and who go to great lengths to ensure quality,” René says. “Raising grassfed animals, for instance, isn’t easy. It takes an extensive amount of work and knowledge and I admire that.” This year, René began working with Brian and Michelle Arnold,

owners of the Thunder Ridge Bison Company, a family-owned farm in the Oak Ridges Moraine of Ontario, where they raise and farm bison through a sustainable, grass-fed, farm-to-table approach. “For people with health issues or allergies, athletes, or those who are simply health-conscious, going with mainstream cattle isn’t always the best option,” he

explains. “Because of the bisons’ natural diet, the meat is superb and great for nutrition – not to mention very, very tasty.” The greatest compliment René has received from clients is that his food is eclectic and authentic. Finding inspiration in the people he meets and the places he visits, he doesn’t worry too much about rules or constraints.

“No one would say I’m refined or fancy. I have no interest in that whatsoever,” he says. “What I care about is the quality of the ingredients, the stories behind the dish, the way the flavours come together, and ultimately, the experience of sharing it with friends.”

Leaps and Bounds

Overcoming the Obstacles with Pride Marine Group

T

hese days, you can get just about anything online. But a new boat? Thanks to Pride Marine Group’s new “virtual” sales initiative, the entire purchasing process can be completed at home, right up to the moment when you pick up your beautiful new boat.

In mid-May, Pride’s 10 locations across Ontario were able to open again, after being shuttered through most of the spring due to the pandemic. All of the company’s departments – from the sales, service, parts and accessories departments to their Cabana Board and Dock Shops in Muskoka and the Kawartha Lakes – are now back up and running full steam ahead. (And as a special treat, visitors to the Pride of Muskoka location get dockside Starbucks delivery; just boat up and they’ll bring it right out to you.)

So the Pride sales team came up with a new way of interacting with their customers that has proven so popular – not to mention convenient for customers, who come from all over Ontario and beyond, and even internationally – that they will be continuing and refining it over the summer.

30 MAY 2020 ■

By Martha Uniacke Breen

The shutdown had presented a bit of conundrum for the company, explains Pride product specialist Tyler Nickel. “We discovered fairly early on that people still wanted to buy a new boat, even with the shutdown. The demand may even be greater than last year, since people won’t be travelling for vacation this year, and are choosing to spend the summer at the cottage instead.”

From the comfort of

home, you can now enjoy Pride’s unique virtual

experience, tailored to

your particular needs and interests.

MAY 2020 31 â–

From the comfort of home, you can now enjoy Pride’s unique virtual experience, tailored to your particular needs and interests. Your interactive experience may include a virtual tour, phone/email or text interaction with a Pride product specialist, or a live or customized tour of the boat you’re interested in, answering any questions you have along the way. It’s just like visiting the showroom in person, but without leaving your easy chair. With the showrooms all open and ready for another summer of boating fun, Pride has put some special measures in place to ensure that your boat-buying experience will be both fun and safe for everyone involved. For example, you can testdrive the boat you have your eye on, but with a few new precautions. Test drives are by appointment only, and the boat will be sanitized before and after your ride. The company asks that you wear a face mask, as will your product specialist. With these simple precautions, you can truly experience the boat you like while remaining completely safe. Picking up your snazzy new ride will be arranged in a COVID-friendly way as well, with safety guidelines tailored to each location to ensure delivery of your new boat will be worry-free and completely safe for everyone. It’s shaping up to be another great summer for Pride, even if things aren’t quite back to usual. “We are constantly receiving new boats from our manufacturers, to ensure that we can offer the best and biggest selection,” says Tyler. “We also have over 100 pre-owned boats, complete with full warranties.” Here’s to another enjoyable and safe summer of boating for everyone.

32 MAY 2020 ■

It’s shaping up to be another great summer for Pride, even if things aren’t quite back to usual.

Pride and The Community In the face of the worst pandemic in a century, giving back has never been more important for Pride Marine Group, which started as a small family company and has never lost its sense of being part of the community, even as it’s grown to 10 locations across the province. The company is spearheading several ongoing efforts such as local food drives, but wanted to do something extra-special for frontline workers. “Boating is one of those things that’s fun for everybody, and let’s face it, frontline workers are not exactly having fun right now,” says Tyler. “So we came up with the idea of a contest where people could nominate a great frontline worker to win a boating weekend. At our Eganville location, we’re giving away the use of one of our bestselling Nautique boats for a weekend. And at our Bracebridge location, we’re giving them a two-hour wakesurfing lesson, complete with a state-of-the-art Nautique wakesurfing boat and an instructor. “To enter, people go to our Facebook page and nominate a frontline worker who’s gone above and beyond, and tell us why they should win.” In the process, it’s generated some unbelievable stories, he says. “Frontline workers aren’t just the doctors and nurses, though what they’ve done has been really heroic. But it also includes grocery store workers, garbage collectors, and one guy whose wife has been sewing face masks for eight hours a day and giving them to people in need.” Winners will be selected by a random draw at the beginning of summer and announced on Facebook.

A Personal Note A personal note from Pride Marine Group’s marketing director, Joe Donoghue: “Muskoka is one of the most unique places in our country, and we are lucky to share it with residents, cottagers and visitors. Together, we are Muskoka. With the arrival of spring, we are excited to see cottagers return. Our three Muskoka locations are available to support every cottager and visitor, by providing a clean and safe destination, with friendly and local staff.

In the face

This year we’ll be celebrating 35 years in business, and we thank everyone for their support. Our commitment to making a memorable boating experience for all of our customers continues to be a main focus, and we cannot wait to see everyone on the water, making memories with their family.”

COTTAGE COMFORT MEETS UPTOWN STYLE By Martha Uniacke Breen

Urban Rustic Living’s Tary Roossien and her team create eclectic, personalized cottage interiors that are supremely comfortable, with just the right touch of chic.

U

rban Rustic Living owner and design consultant Tary Roossien believes that designing living spaces for vacation homes is a very special journey. “Many clients have a sense of the feeling and look they are going for, but are not always able to articulate it,” she explains. “That’s where we come in: to assist with identifying a highly personalized space geared towards the strong connections between cottaging and family.” We visited recently with Tary in the vaulted principal space of Urban Rustic Living’s showroom on Huntsville’s main street, formerly the sanctuary of the historic former First Baptist Church. Across the street is The Lighthouse, the firm’s specialty lighting store, where you’ll find one-of-a-kind lighting pieces from a wide range of manufacturers and in a breadth of styles, from very traditional to very modern. Roossien sees her principal mission as a decorator is to inspire with design. “People usually know what they don’t like, but may not be certain how to get the look they do want. Our job is to work with you in a partnership, to help bring out your inner design preferences to create a design that truly reflects you.” With that in mind, she invites visitors to stroll around the 7,000 sq.ft. store and get inspired. Its beautifully curated

displays are set up as a series of vignettes, showcasing furniture, lighting, décor and accessories designed to assist with visualizing a complete design package, whether you’re refreshing a room, planning a renovation or embarking on a new build. To keep things fresh – especially for regular browsers – the vignettes are updated each season with a sprinkle of the newest on-trend looks and colours. But she insists that great design, especially for the cottage, isn’t really about what’s trendy: it’s about what makes each individual cottager and their family comfortable, often over generations. “A cottage isn’t just about the owner’s lifestyle; it’s about extended family and how that space can operate comfortably for everybody,” she says. “That may mean developing a style that both the grandparents love, but that is equally comfortable for family and kids, and maybe even the next generation, since often cottages are passed down.” While Roossien and her staff are trained to offer a wide range of styles, from spare and modern to cozy and nostalgic, she finds the most appealing looks for her clients lean towards a transitional, eclectic mix that’s easy to live with and easy to update. The most versatile cottage décor, both aesthetically and practically, features “a casual, up-country feel, with large, comfortable multifunctional pieces that you can move here and there.”

“A cottage isn’t just about the owner’s lifestyle; it’s about extended family and how that space can operate comfortably for everybody" also offers professional lighting design specialists.) In addition, they regularly hire interior design students as interns, and have seen many of them go on to successful careers.

he predominant feature of many cottage layouts today, she explains, is the great room – a single large room combining living/ family/dining and kitchen areas. In these spaces, she’ll map out sub-areas following the principle of anchor and vignettes, to accommodate a variety of activities such as playing a board game here or reading a book there.

As Urban Rustic Living celebrates its 20th year, they’re about to embark on a new venture: a line of fully custom, Canadian-made upholstered furniture called Urban Rustic Design. “We did it because after 20 years, we wanted foundation pieces that are exactly in line with what we do: casual, comfortable, with good design. And every piece is designed to be tailored to the customer’s individual preference: sofas with a choice of two seats, three seats or a bench; custom widths and fabrics. It’s like an a la carte menu, where you can plan it out exactly for your needs.”

“The big foundation piece, a sofa or chaise, remains where it is. Because we’re dealing with a lot of windows and the water, you don’t want to encroach on the view. That’s why we love to use swivel chairs. You can turn and face the view, the fireplace, or talk to someone in the kitchen. And not everyone needs to sit in a deep chair.”

While Roossien, like most good designers, says classic design should never rely too heavily on what’s in fashion right now, we still wanted to know what she’s seeing for summer 2019. She obliged us with a few observations on what updates, especially in casual interiors, might be on trend for this season.

Roossien began her career as a colour consultant in the cosmetics packaging industry, which gave her a keen eye both for style and the psychology of design. Today, the family-based firm employs a staff of 10 that includes Tary, her husband, son and daughter – who is one of the four full-time professional interior decorators on staff. (The Lighthouse

“This year, you’ll see a lot of yellow. Turquoise and rosy coral for summer is pretty and fun. Blush is great for bedrooms. We’re moving away from greys in furniture to a warmer pewter or putty. Gold patina is a huge influence. We have coffee tables with brass corners, which adds a bit of warmth in a cooler scheme.”

or pillows and poufs, she favours bold floral prints in semi-saturated, dusty earth tones (she points out that blue can sometimes be used as an earth tone, too). “We have a pillow showroom with the biggest and best pillow collection in Muskoka,” she adds – a time-honoured way to update a room without breaking the bank. Texture-wise, she opts for accessories with the Boho, craftsy look of the hand, such as ceramic jugs with concentric rings that reveal the jugs’ birth on the potter’s wheel; and pillows with textured wool and pompons. She also observes that many cottage interiors today are moving away from rooms crammed with tchotchkes and memorabilia collected for years, towards a more pared-down look. But, she hastens to add, cottages are often all about memories. If you want to display favourite pieces or accessories with a family history, then you should. “As stylists, we work with our clients to bring out their style; I never dictate. We’re not about glamour or putting our style on you. We’re about comfort, and making cottage living easier.”

MUSKOKA HISTORY t was so beautiful, he called it Fairy Lake. In 1853, geologist Alexander Murray surveyed the Muskoka region, travelling by foot and canoe, mapping out waterways in the hope of finding a direct route to Ottawa. Four miles north of Mary Lake he “discovered” Fairy Lake, a picturesque milieu whose woods were said by local Indigenous people to be inhabited by spirits. Since many Victorians believed in the existence of fairies, this just made the spot all the more desirable. The area was officially opened to settlement in 1868 and new immigrants flocked to it. At first, they built farms

on their 100-acre lots. But the poor, rocky soil made it difficult to earn a living. Many turned their hands instead to the booming logging industry. Then, too, tourism was growing, thanks in part to better access to road, rail and water transport. By the 1890s, inns and cottages started blossoming along Fairy Lake’s shore, serviced by a flotilla of steamboats regularly conveying visitors, mail and groceries. In 1905, the Haverland Resort (named for the type of strawberry cultivated since 1878 on the adjacent market garden field) opened on the lake’s south shore. The hotel lasted until the outbreak of WWII, when visitors became scarce. The property was sold in 1943 and turned into the popular Swallowdale children’s

camp; after several decades, the camp relocated. A new cottage enclave now sits on the old strawberry field. Featuring a gorgeous, cedar-shaked, 1,200sf guesthouse and stunning 5,200sf main house, it offers everything one could want from a vacation retreat: soaring vaulted ceilings, picture windows, river rock fireplaces, granite patios, and a four-season Muskoka room. It also provides such ultra-modern amenities as a home theatre and gym, hot tub and sauna, wet bar and wine cellar. In short, it’s a far cry from a simple sustenance farming homestead of 150 years ago. Still, its owners have rechristened the property “Haverland” in remembrance of times past.

CORONAVIRUS FINDING HOPE IN THE

CRISIS By Todd Adair CEO, Cayman Marshall

T

he coronavirus scare is real, and it’s hard to find reasons to stay positive with all the bad news we’ve been hearing lately. The recent stock market bath brought an end to the longest bull market in history, and sent us into a bear market that looks to be with us for a while to come. Meanwhile cases, and the number of deaths, have mounted as the virus has raced throughout the world. What seemed the stuff of science fiction not so long ago has now become everyday life. In the face of an existential threat like this, many of us are naturally drawn to step back and consider what’s most important in life: family, safety and security, our health and the health of the people we love. It’s an ongoing challenge to remain positive when the news is full of horrors day after day. But it’s important to look for reasons for optimism, and when I look around I see them every day. The first is the unflinching heroism of our health care workers all over the country. Despite obstacles that range from a shortage of essential protective equipment to the real danger of being constantly exposed to the virus, they are stepping up to save lives and meet the challenge. The same is true of first responders, police, fire and EMS services. I am sure I speak for all Canadians when I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Another thing is I am noticing that, for the most part, Canadians are taking seriously the call to follow government safety guidelines such as social distancing. We’re washing our hands frequently, staying home as much as possible, substituting FaceTime for faceto-face socializing, and wearing masks when we go shopping or out in public. Statistics clearly show that these small adjustments in our daily lives are making a measurable difference. One indicator we’ve seen here at our business has me hopeful that the economic shock, at least, may be driven more by panic

than by underlying weaknesses. In the 2008 recession, real estate sales basically came to a complete halt. But that has been very far from the case recently – sales in our region have continued to be as healthy as ever, with sales leads up by as much as 40%. With international travel at an all-time low, Ontarians are looking to spend vacation time in our own backyard, which will have positive economic implications that will extend long after the crisis is over. We Muskokans have the luxury of space, fresh air, and a relatively sparse population (especially compared to larger urban centres, which are vulnerable to the possible spread of the virus). Many of our clients and friends in the city have chosen to head up to their cottages in Muskoka with their families to ride out the pandemic, and in the process reconnect with each other and reflect on what really matters. There’s been a little bit of controversy about this in the press, so I, for one, would like to put my two cents’ worth in.

We welcome our summer residents at any time of year, even now. If you have property in our area (or you’re planning to purchase new property this year), please don’t hesitate to come up and enjoy the special feeling that Muskoka offers. And now that businesses are slowly starting to open again, there’s more to enjoy here than ever. However, we hope you won’t mind if we ask that you just take a few extra precautions, to account for the special circumstances we’re all experiencing right now. It’s become a cliché, but it’s true: we are all in this together. Please continue to observe the same social distancing guidelines you’ve been following at home, staying two metres away from anyone you don’t live with. Also, please consider wearing a mask whenever you are in public, especially inside stores, businesses, or anywhere else you are around other people, such as public beaches and parks. (I’ve seen lots of people sporting homemade cloth masks around town, and some of them are quite attractive!) We also ask that if possible, you stock up on provisions and other necessities at home, before you leave for the cottage. Some tourist areas have been reporting local shortages of groceries and other goods, and we don’t have the easy access to suppliers that many urban areas have. Over time, this could become a pressing problem for local residents, and for tourists and summer residents too.

Here’s hoping that you and your loved ones will come through it all safe, and will continue to enjoy the beauty of Muskoka for many years to come. MAY 2020 109 ■

CAYMAN MARSHALL ADVANTAGE “Become so skilled, so vigilant, so flat-out fantastic at what you do that your talent cannot be dismissed.” – Oprah Winfrey When we opened the doors of Cayman Marshall International Realty Inc. as a small boutique brokerage firm to serve the Muskoka real estate market in 2012, we did so with the intention of redefining the level of service that clients could expect from our real estate professionals. Since then, we have grown into an impressive team of top-producing realtors and brokers committed to ensuring our clients receive the highest level of service when buying or selling property in one of Canada’s most sought-after luxury destinations. We at Cayman Marshall have been entrusted with the most prestigious waterfront properties in Muskoka. As leaders in luxury and waterfront real estate, we have had record sales on many of Muskoka’s finest lakes with sales now surpassing the billion-dollar mark we’ve secured our position as a leader in luxury real estate. We have offices in Port Carling, Huntsville/Lake Of Bays and Toronto. Our in-house IT professionals have developed proprietary online tools and software, interactive and intuitive websites, lifestyle tours, stunning photography and an astonishing network of over 400 local and international referral partners to ensure our clients’ listings get the exposure they need to attract the most discerning local and international buyers.

Cayman Marshall was named one of “Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies” by McLean’s Magazine two years in a row (2018 & 2019). We have also been named one of Canada’s fastest growing companies by the Globe and Mail this past Fall. We expect to keep our title as the disrupter in luxury real estate.

We now print four issues per year, with an annual distribution of 200,000. Each magazine is delivered to the front door of homes and cottages of highnet-worth clientele throughout Ontario.

Founded on the principles of teamwork, service and value, Cayman Marshall is the best advantage for buyers and sellers alike in Ontario. If you’re looking for a real estate solution that’s undeniably different, please reach out to myself or one of my teammates and start experiencing the advantage!

We are proud to mention that the Cayman Marshall Port Carling brokerage was just voted (by a large panel of international judges) to be the “Best Real Estate Agency in Canada”, two years in a row – a title that we cherish!
