We commemorated this occasion by celebrating Mass at the Basilica and engaging in a variety of activities and competitions at school throughout the afternoon. We share that task with our sibling schools in this state (Aquinas College, CAC Bindoon and Trinity College), with the dozens of other schools in this country under the guidance of Edmund Rice Education Australia and with schools around the world that share our heritage. The prayer below will be well known to many in our community and certainly has not lost any relevance for our contemporary lives despite the passing of the years. Prayer of Thanks for Blessed Edmund Rice O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice. He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice. May we follow his example of faith and generosity. Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service. Amen.

Senior students visit the nation’s capital

Isaac Pollard with his silver medal in Sydney

Over the April school holidays, 13 Year 11 and 12 students travelled to Canberra and Sydney for an invaluable learning experience supporting curriculum studies in Economics and Geography. From exploring Australia’s seat of national government at Parliament House and Old Parliament House, to interacting and gaining an insight into Australia’s elite athletes at the AIS, to building our knowledge of the nation’s economic decision-making with visits to the Reserve Bank of Australia and Treasury, the inaugural Canberra Tour exceeded the expectations of all participants. Students from CBC Fremantle have undertaken an education Tour of the national capital. On this Tour they were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian government is contributing funding of $240 per student under the parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the Tour.
