Visual Art in the ALA On Tuesday evening the CBC community attended the official opening of the annual Visual Art Exhibition. The ALA was full of a diverse range of visual inspirations from the studio areas of painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, photography and mixed media artworks by students in Years 7 to 12. A large number of proud students and their families filled the space, all amazed by the variety and standard of work on display. Year 12 student Zac Carton’s 70’s Conscription inspired piece received the Principal’s Award and a number boys from Years 7 to 12 received Excellence in Art awards for their commitment and dedication to the Arts programme in 2014. The exhibition’s success would not have been possible without the help of the fabulous Parent Auxiliary Helpers, Year 11 Art students and Art Prefects, the wonderful CBC staff, and the extraordinary MC and presenters, Jack Johnson, Oliver Martin, Doug Preston and Thomas Pinkerton. Thank you to all of the boys and their very supportive families who attended the opening night. Your support is greatly valued. Ms Zoe Francis and Mrs Stephanie Hantzis Art Teachers

Integrated Science Cosmetic Chemistry By Jordy Raffaele This semester took an interesting turn as my fellow classmates and I discovered that we were plunging into the world of cosmetics. We were all very surprised as we thought cosmetics was associated more with girls than boys. We have done many things as a class which I found interesting and unexpected since we attend an all-boys school. We have done things such as make our own soap and extracted essential oils from different plant materials. We even went on an excursion to the Every Woman Expo in Perth to give us a better understanding of the cosmetic world. Through many weeks of manufacturing and experimenting we learnt that it is very important to know the chemistry of cosmetics in order for products to be safe to use by the targeted consumer. Virtues Parenting Programme This six week course is for parents, teachers and anyone else with responsibility for children or teenagers. Language shapes character. The Family Virtues Guide contains 52 of the universal virtues which help parents bring out the best in their children and in themselves. It creates a climate of caring and character.
