FALCON FAMILY NEWS A MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF COLLEGE COUNSELING DEAR FAMILIES: We are pleased to share that our graduating seniors have been receiving letters of acceptance to colleges and universities across the country. Congratulations to the Class of 2022! As many seniors already know, this has been a very competitive year for college admission. In addition, with many colleges and universities implementing “test optional” and “test blind” policies due to COVID-19, many schools received a 10-30% increase in application numbers, driving down admission acceptance rates. Many seniors across the country applied to more colleges than ever in order to “hedge their bets” during a time where college visits were next to impossible. This has resulted in record numbers of applicant pools. Since most campuses have between 45,000-100,000 applicants to fill freshmen classes of approximately 4,500, one can see how difficult decisions have been for admission offices in 2022. In fact, for the eighth year in a row, many UCs and CSUs have instituted a waitlist for stellar students who were not admitted. It is difficult to know to what extent the waitlists will be used and as a result, there have been disappointments – not only among our own students, but for tens of thousands of other California seniors.
resilience and perseverance throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We know they are off to wonderful places and adventures. They will be missed. Parents, be sure to have your senior go to the CB Family Connection as soon as possible, but by May 6 for college admittance. Students need to list ALL colleges to which they have been admitted and ALL scholarships, awards, etc. To all of our families, we are grateful for the blessing of working with you and your students as you progress through the college admissions process. Sincerely,
Melissa McClellan M.S., P.P.S. College Counselor
Thankfully, most of our seniors planned well and applied to not only ‘reach’ schools, but ‘target’ and ‘likely’ schools. As a result, CB students have plentiful options for next year and are able to begin their college careers at great schools. If any seniors are still grappling with final decisions, remember that Mrs. Melarkey and I are available to assist and support you. Seniors who will be attending community college should have already completed their application and registration and completed the online orientation. Students attending a UC (and needing to satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement) should be receiving information on the May 21 (tentative) Analytical Writing Placement Examination (AWPE). More AWPE info and sample questions are at this link. The good news is that many of our students have been admitted to several prestigious universities and programs, including Dartmouth, Cornell, UC Berkeley, UCLA, LMU, Santa Clara, Creighton University, Sacramento State University, Saint Mary’s College of CA, and many more too numerous to list. While it is always sad to say goodbye to our graduating classes, the Class of 2022 will always hold a special place in our hearts for their

LASALLIAN STUDENT LIFE OFFICE Time is flying by even as we eagerly await the Easter Holiday because April is a jam-packed month for our Lasallian Student Life Office.
the Ron Limeberger ‘53 Gymnasium, so we highly encourage everyone to wear a face covering.
Service Activities
When we return from the Easter holiday, over 40 seniors will attend the final Kairos of the school year. Kairos 84, moved from January to April 26-29, is long-awaited by retreatants. While on retreat, the K84 group will deeply explore and reflect on their relationship with God, themselves, and others. And while their four years at CB come to a close, they will form new bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. All seniors who valued their Kairos experience and are eager to lead a journey for rising seniors in June should speak with Mr. Kirk Purdy, Counselor and K86 Director, or Ms. Pacatte, LSLO Coordinator.
During this Lenten Season, we are even more focused on community service and supporting those in need. On April 1 and April 8, we continue our Jeans for Jesus Drive. All members of our community are encouraged to donate $1 to wear jeans to school. All donations support Catholic Relief Services for Ukraine. On the last Friday of March, we raised over $300 for the cause!
Finally, all current juniors hoping to join our Senior Retreat Leadership Team should see Mr. Baybayan, LSLO Director, or Ms. Pacatte, LSLO Coordinator, in room 106. This team is an invaluable part of CB’s comprehensive retreat program. They should be students with stellar leadership qualities and a desire to help form an inclusive community.
Elections Increased interest in Student Government and Leadership has made us all hopeful and excited for the future. Elections for ASB Officers take place on Friday, April 1, while Class Council elections will be held the following Friday, April 8. Each class has at least twice the number of candidates for positions available, so there are sure to be some riveting races! Best of luck to all our Student Government candidates!
Our HER Drive will continue through April 8 to aid women who need access to basic necessities, such as bras, general hygiene products, and menstrual care items. All donations can be brought to the designated pink box in the main hallway, outside the counseling offices. In addition, SALT (Student Action Leadership Team) is hosting a Water Bottle Drive from April 4 through April 8 to support Loaves and Fishes. All sealed water bottles can be brought to the main hallway and placed under the posted sign. Lastly, from April 16–23, a group of 11 students chaperoned by Mr. Danny Delgado ‘79 and Mr. Bernie Eckel will visit the Blackfoot Nation in Montana for our third VENAVER immersion trip this year. There, they will assist at the Native American school and learn about the history of the Blackfoot people. We pray that they will have a moving and transformative experience during their journey.
