FALCON FAMILY NEWS A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF LASALLIAN STUDENT LIFE “Pay attention my young friends, to go against the current; this is good for the heart.” – Pope Francis, Confirmation Mass at St. Peter’s Square, April 28, 2013 DEAR FAMILIES: During our Homecoming Prayer Service in October, we reflected on the theme of seasons changing. This theme is very fitting as we continue to navigate the transformations that have occurred within our lives. As we reflect on these changes, what allows us to keep looking forward is the gratitude in knowing that although sometimes changes can be hard, they work for the good of the people and the community. The experience of “Koinonia” that is so important is constant here at CB. The Greek term, “Koinonia,” is found throughout the Bible and is used in Christian Theology. It is defined as an experience of fellowship and joint participation where everyone contributes and collaborates. As “koinonia,” we are the body of believers that share in the life of the Christian world as disciples among one another and our Lord. We are a community, we are CB. As Director of the Lasallian Student Life Office (LSLO), it is a boundless joy to experience the collaboration of students, faculty and staff members who have worked so hard to ensure that this year is as normal as possible. Since returning to school, we have had to modify many of our co-curricular activities and events so that we can provide safe, fun, and meaningful experiences for our students. In a homily by Pope Francis in April 2013, he encourages young people to “swim against the tide.” How we have risen to the occasion!

Drive last month where we collected donations for animals in shelters affected by the CA wildfires. SALT also meets weekly to help provide services and bring fulfillment to the Oak Park community. These events are a few of the many reasons why CB is the place to be, and it has been an honor to lead its charge. I am amazed every day at the drive and commitment each person in our CB community has given to the school and the Koinonia that is experienced daily here at CB. Each day, it is a joy to see students embracing our school motto, realizing what it means to “enter to learn, leave to serve.” In the Lasallian Student Life Office, we are grateful to provide a space for students to serve their CB community. Live Jesus in our Hearts Forever!

Jerome Baybayan Director of Lasallian Student Life

Guided by our LSLO staff, which consists of four new employees: Cecilia Powers (Assistant Dean of Student Life), Kim Pacatte (Lasallian Student Life Coordinator), and our newest addition, Manolito Jaldon Jr. (Assistant Director of Lasallian Student Life), we have been successful in reinvigorating the school with activities around Student Life, Christian Service, and Campus Ministry. Since this school year has begun, we have hosted a Freshmen AND Sophomore Lock-In, and great outdoor dances, most recently Homecoming attended by 1,290 students from CB and other local high schools. We have held multiple school masses outdoors where the entire student body has been able to attend in person. After an almost two-year long hiatus, we reinstated our Kairos retreat program. 46 students attended Kairos 82 at Zephyr Point in Lake Tahoe. In addition, our Social Action Leadership Team (SALT) continues to serve the community this year, hosting a very successful Falcon Family Drop-off
