FALCON FAMILY NEWS

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF LASALLIAN STUDENT LIFE

DEAR FAMILIES:

This year, the Lasallian Student Life Office (LSLO) is the nerve center for student creativity and all things spiritual and spirited. Located right off the main lawn, a student can walk into the LSLO and find a relaxing vibe. There are students enjoying the IKEA rocking chairs, while others are reveling in camaraderie with an eclectic group in Mrs. Fern’s office. You will also find Falcon Force with Mrs. Powers and Freddy the Falcon stirring up school spirit for the upcoming rally or sport event. Students walk into this space and see other peers working enthusiastically to prepare a meaningful liturgy or prayer experience that reaches an array of people with various faith traditions.

In the spirit of inclusive community, the LSLO is not only a space for students, but for adults as well. Teachers will drop in, enjoy a cup of coffee, and share in the spirit of what it means to belong to CB.

The purpose of the LSLO is to work with students in creating a meaningful high school experience during these important years of their development. All events hosted by the LSLO are for students and by students. We who staff this office have the immense privilege of working with our colleagues to make this happen, one week after another and from one event to the next.

In this multi-task department, we strive for excellence in everything we do. Here are just a handful of activities and things we are working on before the end of the year:

November begins with All Saints Day Liturgy at Cunningham Performing Arts Center. On Tuesday, November 1 at 8 a.m., students from God Squad will wear their new campus ministry shirts and lead the liturgy. The next day, a full bus of Juniors will make their way to our new retreat location for the first of four Junior Retreats at San Damiano in Danville. Later in November, Ms. Fern and Mrs. De Leon will take a select group of CB students into East Los Angeles to learn about the work of Homeboys Industry and will receive hands-on experience serving our less fortunate friends.

Then, right before Thanksgiving Break, the LSLO will hosts Kairos 88 at Alliance Redwoods. This retreat center in Occidental is a new location for CB. It offers a prayerful, redwood-filled environment for seniors as they share their faith, enjoy an indoor rock climb, or a zip line through the trees.

We are also looking forward to a new edition to our student activities, a Nine Square game. Once it arrives, it’s going to be trending at all lunches on the main lawn. We can’t wait!

This is only a snapshot of what the LSLO is about. Every day we celebrate our students and their ability to offer each other a dynamic and meaningful experience on campus, located in the heart of the Oak Park Community.

Sincerely,

NOVEMBER 2022 FALL SEMESTER
