Casey and Matthew met in 2012 while attending Pennsylvania State University. The two dated for seven years and even lived together for three years before taking their relationship to the next level. In March of 2019, Casey thought they were headed to her best friend’s house for a housewarming party. “On the way, we stopped by my parents’ house to pick up brownies my mom had made for us to bring,” Casey reminisced. As they were walking up the path to the front door, Matthew stopped her, got down on one knee, and proposed. Little did Casey know, their loved ones were not only peeking through the blinds watching the milestone take place, but inside waiting to celebrate! Casey recalled, “It was truly a day I will never forget and the surprise of a lifetime.”
A Change of Plans: Casey and Matthew were originally set to wed and celebrate at the Knowlton Mansion, but due to the unfortunate circumstances of the coronavirus, they had to move the reception outside of the city to be in CDC guidelines. While the Cairnwood Estate might not have been the couple’s first reception option, the locale was able to accommodate an outdoor reception and made Casey and Matthew feel like royalty. “The venue is surrounded by beautiful architecture. It was truly the silver lining in having to move the [reception] location,” the bride shared.
The Inspiration: Casey and Matthew’s wedding can be best described as chic and elegant, with industrial touches in a neutral color palette.
Gown Goals: Casey’s ball gown was beautiful itself, so she chose to only accessorize with gold stud earrings, a beaded headband, and a cathedrallength veil, which she wore only for the ceremony. “I tried on about seven dresses and knew it was the one as soon as I put it on,” the bride noted. The gown was a modern design in crisp white with a rose detail on one side. Casey then changed into a form-fitted, lightweight silk dress for the reception.
First Look: The couple described their first look as a special moment they will never forget. With their bridal party and families watching close by, Casey’s nephew walked her over to Matthew. As soon as he turned around for the big reveal, Matthew immediately started to cry.
Simple Decor: Tables were accented with white linens, greenery, and gold charger plates, along with white and black taper candles for a romantic glow. “Seeing all the creative ideas in my head come to life was the most exciting part of planning the wedding,” Casey said.
Something Sweet: The couple’s four-tier, seminaked wedding cake continued with a clean and minimalist design incorporating shimmering gold leaf and acrylic monogram topper. The flavors included chocolate cake or vanilla pound cake with chocolate buttercream filling, and the cake was served with whole strawberries, ice cream, and rum mocha and berry sauces.
