Our Reference: CEEC /WM/2013/1 Date: June 19, 2013 REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST Resource Audit on Water and Waste Water Management CONSULTING SERVICES Introduction The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) with support from DANIDA is keen to spearhead initiatives towards implementation of resources efficiency in organizations. The resource audits will assist Kenyan industries reduce production costs through increased efficiency, resulting in increased profits. This ultimately can lead to increased employment opportunities, more wealth creation and alleviation of poverty. In addition, this exercise will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus contribute to climate change mitigation. Need A resource audit identifies the resources available to a business. Investigating core competencies and capabilities are critical to enable a business achieve competitive advantage. Industry is the second largest user of water after agriculture. However the amount of water used varies widely from one industry type to another. Water management is the activity of planning, developing, distributing and managing the optimum use of water resources. It is the efficient and effective use of water. Its main goal is to improve profits or reduce costs. Industries can save dramatic amount of money and water through attention to its waterconsuming equipments. Many businesses dispose of wastewater or cleaning water into natural fresh water systems. Safe disposal of industrial effluents has become a mandate, subject to the increasingly stringent discharge regulations. For Sustainable development another challenge before the industry is optimal management of water and wastewater leading to zero discharge. Objective The objective of this assignment is to assist selected enterprises in Kenya identify water and waste water management measures in demonstrable economic and environmental benefits. These will serve as successful case studies which will be documented and disseminated to other Kenya industries. The specific objectives include: • Identifying water saving opportunities and advise enterprises on modern technologies in water management; • Identifying Wastewater Generation through Field Studies and advise enterprises on modern technologies in waste water management including recycling;


• Benchmarking of Specific Water Consumption and Wastewater Generation with similar type of Industry •

Environmental benefits in terms of Greenhouse Gases emission reductions;

• Capacity build by conducting 3 day training for auditors/ consultants on how to conduct a resource audit on Water and Waste Water Management. This training will have a minimum of 20 attendees. Expression of Interest Kenya Association of Manufacturers (with support from the Danish Ministry for foreign Affairs through the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), invites consultants to express their interest in providing the services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar assignments, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.). Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications. The minimum requirements are: (i) A good international track record with at least 5 years-experience with water/waste water infrastructure and processes. Experience in developing nations is an added advantage (ii) The consulting firm must have prepared at least five similar projects in Water and Waste Water Audit. Name and describe a list of projects where the consultant has participated similar tasks during the last 5 years. Include in the project’s description, information such as the location, services provided, name of the facilities, references, calculated savings and projects identified, and at least one sample final report. (iii) Also, indicate other Water and waste water management? related qualifications or experience (renewables, buildings etc). (iv) Availability of a full time team of experts with experience in Water and Waste Management Audit, and (v) Demonstrate mastery in modern waste water treatment and waste manage tools and techniques. (vi)

Demonstrate ability and technique to develop Resource auditing plans.

Candidates should provide the following documents with their expression of interest: (i) Copy of the company PIN certificate/VAT registration (ii) Copy of Tax compliance certificate (iii) Copy of certificate of incorporation. KAM will prepare a short list of consultants to be pre-selected on the basis of the expressions of interest received to whom it will send a Request for Proposal to perform the services.
