Advanced Manufacturing: Process Operator

Credits Required 67

Are you interested in a career that is high tech, hands-on, and high paying?

Advanced Manufacturing: Process Operator is a two-year program leading to an associate’s degree in applied science. The program provides the student with a broadbased education in math, science, computer literacy, process technology, soft skills (reliability, leadership, communication, and conflict resolution), and training in mechanical aptitude development for a career as a process technician or operator. These operators/technicians play a critical role in the safe operation and optimization of the plant. Graduates may work in the field or the facility’s control room. Working with the plant’s instrumentation systems, operators/technicians are responsible for the operation of equipment, including pumps, compressors, direct heaters, reactors, extruders, and distillation columns. They also work with maintenance and other departments to ensure safety, environmental, production, and cost goals are met and make operating changes to maintain product quality.

Program Outcomes -Graduates will be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge of process plant operations.

• Demonstrate knowledge of teamwork dynamics in culturally diverse groups.

• Clearly define objectives, discuss, and arrive at a consensus on methods and materials, divide tasks amongst team members, and successfully achieve objectives.

• Clearly assess task objectives relevant to the process industry, successfully conduct experiments in process technology, collect data, perform calculations, and interpret results with a conclusion or find causes of failure and troubleshoot solutions.

Mechatronics

Mechatronics Certificate is a 660-hour program that provides the student with a broad-based education in manufacturing technology: math, technology, processes, controls, quality, and reasoning; troubleshooting/repair; fluid power systems; mechanical systems; electronics; industrial power systems; motors and motor controls; programmable logic controllers (PLCs); digital electronics; and robotics. The program places great emphasis on safety, preventive/predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality assurance.

Students will develop skills to work as a technician in an integrated, multidisciplinary industrial environment and will acquire the knowledge and hands-on training in electronics, mechanics, and computers to work in a variety of industrial and manufacturing related businesses. Students successfully completing this program can manage, investigate, repair, and troubleshoot mechatronic systems, with the aim of operational efficiency and cost and process control.

Mechatronics program graduates can pursue career opportunities in a variety of advanced manufacturing environments and positions. While job announcements may not say “Mechatronics” specifically, the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system lists echatronics positions as Electromechanical Technicians, Electrical and Electronics Repairers, Electronics Engineering Technicians, Automation Technicians, Maintenance and Repair Workers, Maintenance Workers, Machinery, Mechanical Engineering Technicians, Robotics Technicians, Electrical and Electronic Equipment Assemblers, Technical Sales, and Manufacturing Supervisor.

Mascaro Construction Technology and Management Program

The Construction Technology and Management associate degree is designed to help students develop skills to have a successful career in the construction industry. The degree program provides exposure to a variety of sectors in the construction industry, including commercial, residential, industrial, and heavy civil. The curriculum provides students with education on many technical aspects, such as materials, methods, equipment, estimating, scheduling, technology, as well as construction job site management. The program has a strong emphasis on giving students applicable problem-solving skills, as well as introducing them to emerging technological practices. Courses are developed with the input of construction professionals, ensuring career relevance while applying professional and ethical standards. Graduates of the program can enter the industry either through union apprenticeships or through entry level jobs including estimator, drafter, technician, planner, or scheduler.

EMT -Emergency Medical Services

Begin your career as an EMT with this entry-level certification. Students will acquire skills in patient assessment, basic cardiac life support, trauma care, burn care, scene safety, basic hazmat knowledge, and incident command. Additionally, students will complete three online certificates and gain experience through 10 ambulance patient contacts.

Introduction to Welding Technology

Prepare yourself for entry-level positions in welding within manufacturing and industrial firms, construction, fabrication shops, and the Building and Construction Trade Unions. This course encompasses the use of Shielded Metal Arc (stick), Gas Metal Arc (Mig and Flux). You will gain expertise in Core Arc welding operations (certifications in stick and flux core), automatic oxyfuel cutting operations, welding gauges, welding power sources, wire feeders, and oxyfuel assembly and operation. Additionally, the course covers welding procedure specifications, wire specifications, and more!

Wastewater Treatment Operator

Current Wastewater Operators can prepare for the DEP Wastewater Treatment Operator’s exams or earn continuing education credits. This program offers 180 hours of PA DEP Wastewater test preparation along with classroom instruction. Upon successful completion of the training, students will automatically be registered for the PA DEP Wastewater exam, which will take place on campus. The DEP exam is scheduled for November 6, 2024. Additionally, students will have the chance to visit several operational wastewater treatment plants.

Instructor Betsy Bangley will guide you through the process of painting flowers, such as sunflowers and daylilies, using pastels. You will learn color mixing techniques and composition principles to create beautiful artwork. Join us for a relaxing and enjoyable session as we explore our creativity with art supplies. No prior experience is required.

NEW! Pencil Portrait Workshop

Please bring a photo of someone you wish to draw, and together we will delve into the fundamentals of facial drawing. We will start by sketching rough shapes and gradually refine them into distinct facial features. Beginners are encouraged to embark on their sketching journey here, as we will cover basic techniques applicable to any subject, offering a fresh start to a pencil drawing art adventure.

NEW! Quilting Software – Electric Quilt 8 (EQ8)

For over 30 years, Electric Quilt has been the leading quilt-design software in the world with the most user-friendly tools. If you already have this software and are a little intimidated on where to start, this class is for you! If you are tired of drawing your quilt blocks on paper and organizing these designs in your sewing room, this class is for you! We will start at the beginning using the EQ8 Lessons for Beginners book written by the Electric Quilt Company. You will learn how to utilize the core EQ8 features, modify basic quilt block designs to create one-of-a kind quilt pattern, creation of paper piecing templates, and designing your own quilt block from scratch. This class is a hands-on class which requires a laptop with Electric Quilt 8 software download prior to class. If you do not own the software, there is a 30-day trial offer which can be downloaded for class.

NEW! Fun in the Sun: DIY Beach Towel with Pockets

This is a beginner sewing project designed for children aged 9 to 15 who have limited experience with a sewing machine. The class focuses on hands-on learning and covers basic safety measures for machine operation, cutting fabric, precise measuring in quarter-inch increments, and sewing straight and corner stitches. Participants will need to bring a beach towel and coordinating fabric to the class, as these materials are not included in the price. The hands-on nature of the class allows students to use a sewing machine to create practical items for their summer vacation, such as pockets for holding beach essentials and a beach pillow that fits inside the towel. Students have the option to bring their own sewing machine or use one provided at the Sewing Original Stitches classroom at Midland PA. CNC Machinist (online)

Medicare: What you NEED to know!

Consumer advocates note that Medicare eligible people get a much better deal if they know the facts. Learn about the Medicare and Medicare Advantage programs, supplement plans, and how to choose the correct Medicare plan. Boater Safety Course (Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission)

Boating Safety Education Certificates are required for all operators of personal watercraft, regardless of age, and for boat operators born on or after January 1, 1982 that operate motorboats of more than 25 horsepower. Students who successfully complete this course may apply for a Boating Safety Education Certificate issued by the Commission. To receive a Boating Safety Education Certificate, the student must send a check or money order for $10.00 to the Commission.

- The PA Fish & Boat Commission’s PA Basic Boating Course was developed to supply boaters with practical information so they can make better informed decisions on the water. Instructors provide students with information to help them reduce the risk of injury and conflict on the water.

- This course presents information on boating and water safety and contains six chapters followed by a 50-question multiple-choice test. A passing grade of 80% must be achieved. Instructors provide course materials to the students. DATE:

Founded by Joseph Pilates, this class targets the deepest muscles in the body to create a strong core. Medical Billing and Coding Micro Credential

You can prepare to embark on a career in healthcare with a specialized focus on accurately documenting and billing for medical services by completing a medical billing and coding micro-credential in four months (9 credits), You will be equipped with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to pursue entry-level positions in medical billing and coding at various health care facilities including physicians offices, hospitals, and out-patient facilities. Remote work has become increasingly common in the field due to advances in technology and the availability of electronic health record (EHR) systems. Remote work offers flexibility and the ability to work from home or any location with internet access.

You will learn the terminology used in electronic health records and billing while developing an understanding of coding using International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes to accurately describe diagnoses and procedure. You will also also develop familiarity with different health insurance plans, including private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid, and learn how to accurately navigate billing requirements for each.

Beekeeping Class for Beginners - Country Barn Farm

This is a classroom-based course offering an introduction to honeybee biology and basic approaches to beekeeping. The Bullseye Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery located on Fifth Ave in New Brighton. Mike, a sixthgeneration farmer, has devoted his entire life to caring for his land. He initiated brewing and envisioned the integration of farming by growing the grain for the beer, merging his passion for the farm with the brewery. On September 29, 2023, Mike officially assumed ownership of the brewery.

In December 2020, Ben Dougherty and Steve Gates embarked on the lengthy process of establishing a brewery in Monaca, Pennsylvania.
