Opening Sentences Alleluia. The Lord is risen indeed: O come, let us adore him. Alleluia. I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” — Psalm 122:1
Confession of Sin Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God. Silence may be kept. Officiant and People together, all kneeling
Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen. The Priest alone stands and says
The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen.

Officiant and People together
In you, O Lord, have I taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; * deliver me in your righteousness. Incline your ear to me; * make haste to deliver me. Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe, for you are my crag and my stronghold; * for the sake of your Name, lead me and guide me. Take me out of the net that they have secretly set for me, * for you are my tower of strength. Into your hands I commend my spirit, * for you have redeemed me, O Lord, O God of truth. My times are in your hand; * rescue me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me. Make your face to shine upon your servant, * and in your loving-kindness save me.” Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
The First Reading
Acts 7:55–60
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Stephen gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” But they covered their ears, and with a loud shout all rushed together against him. Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he died. The Holy Gospel
John 14:1–14
Deacon A reading from the Gospel according to John.
Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.” Deacon The word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

The Apostles’ Creed Officiant and People together, all standing
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord. who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, 6
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Offertory Solo
Ralph Vaughan William
Come, my way, my truth, my life: Such a way, as gives us breath: Such a truth, as ends all strife: Such a life, as killeth death.
Come, my light, my feast, my strength: Such a light, as shows a feast: Such a feast, as mends in length: Such a strength, as makes his guest.
Come, my joy, my love, my heart: Such a joy, as none can move: Such a love, as none can part: Such a heart, as joys in love. Sean Stultz, soloist
— George Herbert (1593–1633)
The General Thanksgiving Officiant and People
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, 8
give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

Closing Voluntary Prelude on Hyfrydol
Ralph Vaughan Williams Sean Stultz, soloist Daryl Robinson, Cathedral Organist Music Notes
The Three Choirs Festival is an annual choral event in England, featuring several days of concerts by the choirs of Worcester, Gloucester, and Hereford Cathedrals. First established in 1715 in Gloucester, the event now rotates between the three counties. Vaughan Williams premiered his 5 Mystical Songs for orchestra, baritone soloist, and chorus at the festival in 1911. The text to this work comes from the poetry of George Herbert, a 17th century priest in the Church of England. The offertory solo is the fourth of five movements, and Herbert’s writing here references the famous John 14:6 verse, describing Jesus as the “way, the truth, and the life”. Following his rising success during the early 1910s, Vaughan Williams abruptly stopped writing music to join the military following the outbreak of World War I. The collection to which today’s organ voluntaries belong was first published in 1920, and was some of the composer’s first music released following his writing hiatus. The tunes for the pieces are all derived from Welsh hymnals of the 19th century. — TM The Book of Remembrance This week we remember Priscilla Rodman Wandel and John Philip Wandel Sr. The Beauty of Flowers The flowers on the Cathedral Altar are given to the glory of God in loving memory of Mrs. James A. Haralson by her daughter, Mrs. Gary P. Pearson, and her grandchildren, Gary, Jim, and Mary Bain.

Welcome Sunday, May 10, 2020 Announcements Today we are celebrating May Fete • The annual tradition continues — safely with social distancing! There are recipes to make, photos to see and share on social media, and a video to watch. Read the Thursday enews from a few days ago to find out more. Virtual worship continues until June 1 • Bishop Doyle and Dean Thompson have joined bishops, clergy, and other faith leaders from Houston Episcopal, Baptist, United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches in writing a letter to say that, following the consensus of medical leaders in Houston, Christ Church Cathedral parishioners will continue to worship virtually from home until June 1. Dean Thompson has created a task force that will be thinking through what future on-campus gatherings at the Cathedral will look like. The task force has also created a survey; please keep an eye out for it and respond. In the latter half of May, Dean Thompson will update everyone on those plans. The Cathedral is hosting a socially distanced, safe blood drive on May 31 • A blood drive is one of the many ways we can support others during this time. One donation has the ability to save three lives. Our safe blood drive will be Sunday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. People can give by appointment only. Go to our website under “Registrations” for the link to sign up. Every weekday at 12:05 p.m., go to Facebook for a live worship service • Our intrepid priests are on live video every weekday for the noonday worship service. Leave a comment and we will pray for you. Go to facebook.com/cccathedraltx to tune in. During the 50 days of Easter, these weekday worship services will focus on the book of Acts. How to make a donation online • It is simple to make a donation on the Cathedral website, as an Easter offering or for any other reason. Look for the tab at the top of the site that says, “Give.” Click on the tab for a variety of ways to make a gift to the Cathedral. We are now offering options to pay via PayPal as well as a new “text-togive” option. Simply text “Give” to 888-998-1634, and follow the instructions.
