PURPOSE AND SUPPORT Named for the holistic nature of design, the Circle Gallery engages visitors, students, faculty and staff with diverse exhibits highlighting everything from landscape architecture, historic preservation, and environmental planning to the fine arts. The exhibitions we organize reflect our College’s interdisciplinary approach while enriching the academic and cultural environment of our campus. This year’s exhibitions celebrate the relationship between the fine arts and environmental design. It is important to cultivate this relationship as our fields have so much in common and so much to offer one another. The gallery is supported by the College of Environment and Design, private donations, and sales of artwork. This year’s fundraiser coincides with the opening reception of Roads, Rivers and Red Clay, ceramics by Ron Meyers. We invite you to attend on October 15th, 2015 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Refreshments provided.
Afloat
rg brown iii AUGUST 20 - OCTOBER 2, 2015
RG Brown III is professor emeritus of the Lamar Dodd School of Art where he taught for 30 years and served as the director of the Cortona program. A graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Design in Landscape Architecture, Brown chose to dedicate his life to creating art rather than conventional landscapes. But like a landscape architect, his interpretation of place is often foremost in his mind. Afloat is a compendium of works that explores the notion of journey and the memories of newfound places and experiences.
Roads, Rives, and Red Clay RON MEYERS OCTOBER 15 - DECEMBER 18, 2015
Since his childhood in Buffalo, N.Y. where he grew up in landscapes shaped by Frederick Law Olmsted, Ron Meyers has been deeply influenced by his physical environment. This influence is reflected in this show of new work, created in his 80th year. Meyers’ ceramics are recognized nationally and internationally for their wit, functionality, and originality. Using clay dug from the rivers of the Southeast, he celebrates the world around us in playful ways that challenge and inspire us to connect to our place throughout our entire lives.
Please Join us at our Circle Gallery Fundraiser, Thursday, October 15th, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Refreshments provided.
