JAMES HITCHMOUGH is Professor of Horticultural Ecology and Head of the Department of Landscape at the University of Sheffield. As both an academic and practitioner, James’ research focuses on the ecology, design and management of herbaceous vegetation. He specializes in the creation of native and non-native meadow, steppe and prairie vegetation, which is designed to be both more sustainable than traditional herbaceous planting and highly attractive to the public. He has recently been involved in the creation of the Big Sky Meadow, an 18-hectare site of perennial meadow planting, for RHS Hyde Hall in Essex.
