DRAMATURG’S NOTE “The truth of course is that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time.” – David Bowie To be young is to feel contradiction. We experience a multitude of different interests, desires and hopes that push and pull against one another many times a day — it’s a lot to deal with. Like Romeo, Juliet, Benvolio, Mercutio, Tybalt and even Paris, we find that the journey of growing into adulthood seems entirely too complicated — full of anxiety and responsibility. We are compelled, instead, to explore our passions, find true love and safeguard our friendships — the families we have created for ourselves. Inside our pursuits, we often discover truths distant from the feelings we thought we wanted, loss when we find suffering coupled with love and loneliness within companionship. Maybe the secret of adulthood is that we grow old and never stop feeling young. What does it mean to come of age? When we arrive at clarity, we depart from it. If it hadn’t been for the investment that others made in our education, we wouldn’t be pictured here. Now, it’s our turn. We plan to support CCM for our lifetimes. Then, our planned gift will endow our current level of CCMpower support for future generations of talented students. So much was done for us. It’s the least we could, and should, do for others.
MARY LU AND DICK AFT Cincinnati became home to Dick and Mary Lu Aft in 1987 when Dick began his 14-year presidency of the United Way of Greater Cincinnati. That was also the year that Mary Lu began 28 years of Friends of the Public Library Leadership. As Dick continues to teach, consult and write books about United Way history, Mary Lu still spends three days each week volunteering as a Library Friend. She is also Vice Chair of the Fifty Year Club alumni association of their shared alma mater, Knox College. Dick serves as a member of the CCMpower Executive Committee and Chair of the Community Advisory Board of UC’s Hoxworth’s Blood Center. Mary Lu and Dick consider CCM “their conservatory” and believe it to be one of the best in the world. They should know, as they have enjoyed performances all over the world while working as a volunteer team committed to increasing non-profit services to people in need.

THE VILLAGE NEWS ALUMNI APPLAUSE In 2011, alumna Julianna Bloodgood (BFA Drama, 2006) co-created the Dadaab Theater Project, a theatre engagement effort that connects children in the refugee camp at Dadaab, Kenya to American youth through acting. She is a founding member of the pedagogy and performance research ensemble Oriri as well as the Great Globe Foundation, an organization devoted to increasing cultural exchange and empowering voices through the arts. Bloodgood currently resides in Wrocław, Poland, where she performs as an associate company member with Teatr Piesn Kozła. The career of alumnus Jason Matthew Smith (BFA Drama, 1996) keeps beaming upward, as he has filmed roles in Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016). He also portrayed Eric Olcyzk in the award-winning ESPN series Playmakers and has appeared in Six Feet Under, 24, Rebound, Bones, Sons of Anarchy, NCIS: Los Angeles, Longmire and Six Gun Savior. Alumna Torie Wiggins’ (BFA Drama, 2003) performances of one-woman show Your Negro Tour Guide, which she co-adapted from Kathy Y. Wilson’s book of the same name, have been featured at venues around Cincinnati and across the U.S. She has appeared on All My Children and in the feature film Love Me Through It (2008). Wiggins was previously a Seasonal Resident Artist with Know Theatre of Cincinnati and is currently an adjunct instructor in acting at CCM. Motivated by a desire to bring the arts to a community with very few significant arts-related opportunities, alumna Sommer Renae Schoch (MBA/ MA Arts Administration, 2014) recently founded the Flashback Theater Co. (FbTc) in Somerset, Kentucky. She also serves as the company’s Producing Artistic Director. One of her goals with FbTc is to produce shows that speak to the local audience on a personal level; she often produces works set in or around Kentucky, such as Norma Cole’s And the Tide Shall Cover the Earth.

GENERAL INFORMATION CCM BOX OFFICE: Located in the CCM Atrium, the Box Office is open Monday through Friday, 12-5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 12-4 p.m.; and one hour prior to curtain for Mainstage performances. Master Card, VISA and Discover cards are accepted. CCM Box Office, P.O. Box 210003, Cincinnati, OH 45221-0003; 513-556-4183. PARKING: Convenient parking is available in the CCM Garage, at the base of Corry Boulevard off of Jefferson Avenue. Additional parking is available in garages throughout the UC campus. Any questions concerning on-campus parking should be directed to UC Parking Services at 513-556-2283. TAX CREDIT: If you find that you cannot attend your performance, your tickets may be donated for tax credit as a charitable contribution. Simply notify the Box Office prior to the performance to release your seats, and give your name and address. A tax donation receipt will be mailed to you. EMERGENCY CALLS: If you are likely to receive an emergency call during a performance, please leave your name and seat location with the House Manager. If you have a beeper, we also request that you leave it with the House Manager along with your seat number so as not to disturb the audience and performers. In case of emergencies, this will help us locate you as quickly as possible. LOST AND FOUND: 513-556-9413 HOUSE POLICIES: The House Manager has been instructed to minimize the disturbance to patrons already seated when accommodating latecomers. The director and producer of each production select times which are least likely to interrupt the performance, and latecomers will be seated only during these times. Latecomers who miss these opportunities will not be admitted until intermission. Children under the age of six are not to be admitted. CAMERAS, PHONES AND RECORDING DEVICES: The use of cameras, with or without flashes, recording devices, cellular phones and other electronic devices inside the theater is strictly prohibited. Please leave them with the House Manager. SMOKING AND REFRESHMENTS: Smoking and refreshments are not permitted in the theater. Effective January 1, 2006, smoking is prohibited inside all buildings, athletics facilities and vehicles owned,

operated or leased by the University of Cincinnati. Smoking is also prohibited within 25 feet of all university building entrances, exits, air intakes and operable windows. Smoking shall not be permitted on any bridge, overpass or enclosed walkway. HEARING ENHANCEMENT: Telex listening devices are available for checkout during performances in both Patricia Corbett Theater and Corbett Auditorium. Please inquire at the Box Office. WHEELCHAIR SEATING: Wheelchair seating is available in both theaters. Seating is limited, so reservations should be made with the Box Office when ordering tickets. These seats are subject to availability. GROUP SALES: The Box Office can accommodate groups for major productions and concerts.
