Great Western Bicycle Rally Guidelines The GWBR has been a source of enjoyment for thousands of bicyclists over the past 52 years and we sincerely hope you have a wonderful Rally experience. For the past 37 years, Paso Robles has been the home of the Great Western Bicycle Rally. The variety of roads, the wonderful local community, wineries, local businesses and activities, and the support of local public services make this one of the best locations on the West Coast to run the event. Please observe the following simple rules to ensure that the Rally continues to be a success. Obey All Traffic Laws. Ride single file and stay to the right. Stop at all stop signs. When possible, ride on the shoulders of Highways 101, 46, 41, and 1. Be Courteous. We are riding on the road with local merchants and residents of Paso Robles and surrounding communities. We are their guests, please make them want to ask us back. Police Yourselves. If you see another bicyclist riding in an unlawful or unsafe manner, tell them to Shape Up! Supervise Your Children. The Fairgrounds are a great place for kids to play and we encourage them to have fun, but please make sure they do not go into areas which are marked as "off limits" or cause any damage to Fairground facilities. Wear Your Wristband At All Times. Access to the Fairgrounds, The Hub, Rally activities, showers, rest stop facilities etc. are reserved for Rally participants only. Those not wearing a wristband will not be granted access to these. If you wish to take part in the Rally but not in any cycling activities please see us at Registration to purchase a non cyclist place at the Rally. Vehicle Parking. Vehicles not being used for camping are not allowed to remain on the fairgrounds after unloading has taken place. Any vehicle not being used to sleep in must be parked in the lots outside the Fairgrounds. Security. The main Fairground gates are not locked at night. Please make sure you secure your bikes and equipment. The Great Western Bicycle Rally cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to your belongings. Thank you for your support and cooperation!
Information for Fairground Campers All campers should observe the following simple rules to make your camping experience at the Rally more enjoyable and happy. You have been provided with a camping ticket, please note the display instructions on the ticket and adhere to them. Periodic checks of the camp grounds will be made during the Rally and those not displaying appropriate tickets will be asked to purchase camping at that time. If you require use of the electric hook ups, please note that there is an additional charge for this. A portable hot shower facility has been rented for your use. Registered campers may use these facilities at any time during their hours of operation (until approximately 10 pm). Please be considerate of other users that may be waiting in line and don’t take excessively long showers. We want to limit vehicular traffic in and out of the fairgrounds once the event is in progress. Please park all vehicles not being used as a camping vehicle in the parking lots outside the fairgrounds. Please set up your campsite and park campers / RVs in such a way as to maintain open access to all campsites and access for emergency vehicles. Please be considerate of your fellow Rally participants. - Keep the rest rooms clean - Pick up your trash and place it in one of the large trash barrels on site - Keep noise down, especially after lights out - Try to limit excessive BBQ smoke Please observe the "OFF LIMITS" areas. The Fairgrounds restricts our use in these areas. Campers found in these areas will be asked to leave. Fairground lights will be turned off at around 10:30 pm each night. Pets, either on leash or in carriers are not permitted on the Fairgrounds at an time. Open fires are not permitted on the Fairgrounds at any time. Vacate the Fairgrounds by 2:00 pm on Monday. The gates will be locked after that time.
It takes a village... They say it takes a village to raise a child and it sure takes more than just us to put on the Great Western Bicycle Rally. We couldn’t do it without some very committed supporters and sponsors. The Rally Volunteers and Staff Every year the Great Western Bicycle Rally takes place thanks to a lot of behind the scenes work from our team of staff and volunteers who put so much energy into making this event a wonderful experience for participants. Thank you to everyone who has put something into this year’s event! Laverne Boethling If ever there was a Queen of the GWBR, Laverne would be crowned for sure. She embodies everything that is great at the Great Western Bicycle Rally.
Matt Hoffmann and VeloYouth Matt will be our speaker on Sunday evening. His story of his solo RAAM journey to support VeloYouth and his work with disadvantaged and at risk kids is truly inspirational.
