Roarke Center Mural Unveiling On June 15th, the Roarke Center unveiled The Wall Memorial, a permanent mosaic installation made of ceramic tiles. The mural illustrates participant memories and experiences at the Roarke Center that have impacted their lives. Collaboration and cooperation were outstanding qualities shared by each participant who worked on the project. Artists at the Roarke Center, who are adults living with poverty and participating in the arts program, designed and made all the tiles for the wall. More than 25 artists worked on the piece and in April, the center received a community arts grant from the Arts Center of the Capital Region to help with the project. Jillian is the Guest artist whose focus is public mosaic installations. Mary LaFleur is a potter who is skilled in alternative pottery decor. She is our "expert" on methods of using clay, design, glazing and applique. She facilitated us to share our poetry and thoughts in the mosaic forum. Staff Spotlight - Meet Justine Hello! I'm Justine Carroll and I started at Catholic Charities Tri‐County Services in May 2016. I'm the new Administrative Assistant working in the Herrick St office. By now I've had the chance to meet many of you ‐ but I figured since I was tasked to start our own Staff Newsletter I'd better introduce myself properly! Native New Yawker originally from Brooklyn NY, I moved Upstate to Saratoga County in late 2012. I come from a non‐profit background working previously for the YMCA and the American Diabetes Association, in various administrative roles. In my off time I collect vintage owls and birds, love dark chocolate and you can usually find me at a thrift shop or yard sale on the weekends!
New Initiative: Hilltowns Mobile Food Pantry Marybeth Peterson, Program Coordinator & Misty Schaffer, Program Assistant The Hilltowns Mobile Food Pantry started on April 1st and helps families who are unable to get to the actual food pantry. Clients with no transportation options, seniors, home‐bound and shut‐ins. Already serving 24 per families per month and looking to expand. Made possible through Food Pantries of the Capital District with a grant from CDPHP They've also started to collaborate with the local library to deliver books and DVD's while out delivering food!
