CCPD: Package Thefts Spiking in Co-op City
The Co-op City Public Safety Department (CCPD) reported this week that package thefts continue to be a very serious concern in the development and advises shareholders to take all necessary precautions to protect and retain their e-commerce purchases, especially with the Holiday season approaching.
Chief Joseph Riley said that among the steps shareholders can take is utilizing the newly installed package delivery boxes currently available at some residential buildings or having packages delivered to a more secure delivery drop location offered by some companies.
“Use on-site and off-site parcel drop locations that provide a locker or in-person pick up,” Chief Riley said. “These locations provide a high degree of security. Talk to your neighbors, work with each other. Let your neighbors know when you are expecting a delivery so they could collect the item/s for you. You can return the favor.”

Our Shareholders’ Voices
Matter
Dear fellow shareholders,
Hope everyone had a great summer, enjoying this time with family and friends.
We are having an Open Board meeting on Wednesday, September 13, at the Dreiser Center. It is our hope that you will all be able to attend. We will have future meetings in the other Sections as well so as not to keep it in one place. This gives all our shareholders an opportunity to come out and speak to your Management team and Board members.
You will have an opportunity to speak to the directors of the departments on any issues that are affecting you and your home. I have read some of the comments from the different social media outlets. I am deeply concerned when a shareholder is waiting months for serthey were just put in. This is troubling and things we need to know about so that we can correct the situation.
Our Executive General Manager has been reporting out every other week on matters of concern. The goal has always been to be transparent so that our shareholders are kept informed. For example, many

Mayor Outlines Plan to Address Auto Theft
Mayor Eric Adams announced a plan on Wednesday that aims to address an increase in auto thefts citywide.
The plan highlights several strategies the NYPD will deploy to combat auto theft across the city. that grand larceny auto (GLA) is up roughly 19% citywide compared to this time last year.
In a report included with Mayor Adams’ plan, the increase in GLA can be largely attributed to “viral social media videos (that) emerged in the city in September 2022, spiked three months later, and continues to the current day.”

New York City school bus drivers temporarily avoided striking during the tions still remains.
Approximately one-half of the city’s school bus drivers, represented by Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1181 (ATU), could strike if a contract is not reached, an estimate provided on the NYC Public Schools’ website. Should a strike happen, more than 4,400 bus routes and 80,000 students could be impacted, as reported by several news outlets.

shareholders are concerned about the holes in the wall left by the cable company. We have done repairs to 10 buildings in Section Five, but we have 30 plus buildings to go. We are addressing this matter and we hope to have a more expedient process for resolving the unsightly look of our buildings. Our policy on e-Bikes through a Board resolution and approved by HCR is clear. We cannot allow e-Bikes in homes. News articles continue to show that e-Bikes are dangerous, especially with lack of knowledge and when safety precautions are not in place. Our only goal here is to protect our community.
Verizon has been eager to enter into Co-op City. It will allow healthy competition and give us choices. We have every right to select whatever cable company we want to do business with. It is our right and there will be more discussion on this matter. We will also discuss balcony enclosures as they pertain to the law and what is the process we need to use in our community.
I want to thank our shareholders who have taken the time to write comments/ suggestions/complaints to our web page. It is important that you be heard and I have to say that the comments and suggestions are really good ones. We hope to use some

Amazon Lockers Pilot Program Begins With Triple-Core Buildings

Mr. Blake also addressed service improvements shareholders in the Triple-Cores can expect as a result of the new Amazon lockers.
“I do believe this is a game changer for Co-op City shareholders,” Mr. Blake told the Co-op City Times in April.
“The service reliability of knowing your packages will be secure in the Amazon hub box will greatly improve service delivery as there will now be accountability and the shareholder will receive their package,” Mr. Blake pointed out.
“This is a pilot program that Amazon brought to us, and we here at Co-op City were very interested in participating. The program is starting with Amazon Hub lockers located behind the building under the portico in all Triple-Core buildings. I encourage shareholders to utilize

As for the Mayor’s plan, one key component went into effect following the Mayor’s announcement. Every NYPD precinct will now have a dedicated GLA radio motor patrol car that will be equipped with two mobile license plate readers (LPR). According to the Mayor’s plan, patrol cars will serve as a “liaison” in each precinct, as well as scan areas within the respective precinct where auto thefts are more common, and utilize the mobile license plate scanners to pinpoint the location of any stolen vehicles. GLA response vehicles will also “proactively” scan cars in impound lots and scrap yards for potential stolen cars, as explained in an online version of the plan.

Shareholders planning to use the lockers will need a smart phone device with the Amazon Shopping app downloaded and Bluetooth connectivity in order to secure their package from a locker. Additionally, in order to have packages delivered to an Amazon Hub locker, the shareholder must have their respective building listed as their default delivery address. Shareholders can check their default delivery address by visiting their account online at Amazon.com.
Individuals who do not own a smart phone or would prefer to opt out of having their packages sent to an Amazon Hub locker can do so by going to their account information on Amazon.com. After logging into their Amazon account, the individual can navigate to the “Your Addresses” page and tap the “Add Delivery instructions” prompt. For parents wondering how the bus strikes might disrupt learning, the NYC Public Schools website even in the event of a strike and that latenesses of up to two hours caused by any potential strikes would be excused. In the event that a strike does happen, parents of student athletes participating in a PSAL league sport will be contacted by their child’s school if their child’s sporting event is affected.

Department of Public Safety Urges Residents to Update Emergency Information
Many shareholders have resided in Co-op City for 45 or more years, and, in some cases, some households have not updated their emergency contacts since their original move-in date. It is very important that residents make sure that their emergency information is up-to-date. It is also a good idea to provide an emergency key to a trusted neighbor or friend who can respond to your apartment in an emergency. Be sure to provide the contact number for that person to Riverbay Corporation as well.
The Department of Public Safety makes every effort to locate a shareholder when we receive a call that the person may be in need of medical assistance.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT CO-OP
(Continued on page 22)
As we prepare for the Fall season, let’s take note of the fact that we survived the summer. Although there were some minor emergencies that were minor due to learning from past experiences, we must continue to encourage this practice of following through and completing tasks that affect our quality of life.
If we look at every day as a new day that we conquer the little things, they won’t become big problems in the future. Riverbay is in a process of forensic suture. We are looking for ways to elimseeking ways to encourage best practices throughout our administration. We know and understand that although perfection may be impossible, we will one day (sooner than later) be competing with current abilities. Technology will be our friend or our enemy. We can determine that now if we prepare.
Proposals
For those of you who missed it, I will be initiating several proposals in the very near future. Some may be accepted easily while some may be controversial. However, accepted or not, understand that they are proposals/ideas and it all comes from a heartfelt willingness to make our community better and prosperous.
One such proposal/idea is to get us to recognize that this place belongs to us collectively and any-
One Step Back, 5 Steps Forward
one looking to destroy our community knowingly or unknowingly must be corrected. If someone destroys your property or violates the rules that we have all agreed to as shareholders, they should be strictly enforced. This must change. In order to enforce it, we must all deputize our eyes and ears. I propose to introduce a resolution that will compensate a shareholder if they have physical proof (video or photograph) that is accepted by committee,
committee. The households and family members of Riverbay Board members will not be eligible. This proposal will be controversial because street-minded individuals will say that we are asking neighbors to “snitch” on each other because they are misusing the word for lack of understanding or they are violators themselves. This is only an idea right now but I propose to move forward with presenting it to our Board. Those of you who truly know me, are already aware that I don’t have fear of doing the right thing.
Positive Solutions
So much work goes into policy setting and managing a community as large as ours. A dedicated Board member does so much behind the scenes that most people overlook as just natural occurrences. As a responsible Board member/shareholder, I experience what most people would consider an
emergency at least three times per week. Our Management and staff experience hundreds of emergencies each week. Yes, it’s true that Co-op City is an aging community not just in its people but also our infrastructure. Maintaining a good quality of life while restructuring and repairing our community comes at a cost. Just like anywhere else in the world, we must maintain, but at a cost. Unfortunately, the global economy isn’t dictated by us. However, we can and have been able to keep the burn at arm’s length.
Maintaining Momentum
So many of us do not understand that what is going on all around us has been detrimental to other communities. We have been able to keep our bleed at a minimum compared to most. Our curby developing systems that create a tourniquet to minimize economic leakage. As we continue our positive impactful journey, we will start to see the direct results in our households. Let’s Shut This Scam Down
targeted munities with a scam about cable television, phone,
It seems like a large group of thieves have targeted our community along with other communities with a scam about cable television, phone, will not allow their scam to work here.
Hang Up That Phone
Some criminals know that they can make big money every day because some people will simply fall for their scams. So, these criminals might target certain communities with a particular scam. In reference to Co-op City, the latest scam is about lowering cable television, phone, and internet bills. Therefore, these criminals are now making random calls here to see who will fall for their scam.
And, their telephone number might falsely display on your caller ID as a call from a legitimate ter, they know that some people might accept an offer to lower their bills if they can see that a reputable company is behind their call. So, a criminal is going to recite an offer to a potential victim. Then, the criminal is going to do everything possible to get some personal information from that potential victim.
a prepayment to get started. However, they can only accept gift cards. So, they will ask you to purchase a gift card with a good sum of money on it. the rear area of the card. Then, they will steal every penny from that gift card as soon as they receive those numbers.
“It’s not what they do. It’s what you do.” So, our cooperators are very strong. Therefore, will we tolerate this type of foolishness to go on here? Never! So, I want to encourage everyone here to please check your caller ID before you pick up your phone. Curious? Please hang up your phone immediately once they start their scam.
Fiber Optic Service Upgrades?
I have received several complaints from cooper-
being offered here. And, one of the biggest comnot attached to this upgraded service.
So, currently, will you be able to view areas of about reviewing information on our crawler? No.
Now, are these channels important to you? Do you want to see your loved ones if they’re in the lobby or basement? If yes, then, I want you to please consider this information before you upgrade your services. Then, please make your own choice before you proceed with an upgrade.
Personally, I would love to replace some of our camera systems. For instance, our current camera system will display one camera in a lobby for just a few seconds. Then, our camera system will switch to another camera in a lobby. No, I would love to see a screen that can display both cameras at the same time. This concept happens with regular television shows all the time.
Also, there have been some terrible things that have happened in our elevators. For instance, a man decided to ride inside of an elevator with all of his clothes off. So, would you want your loved ones to encounter any type of nonsense in an elevator? No! Therefore, I would love to let our cooperators see what is going on in our elevators before they ride in one.
Criminal activity? Our cooperators would be able to see a crime in progress and immediately call the police. It would also be nice if we had some channels so that our cooperators could post content from, say, a building meeting or another type of event.

Bronx Boro President’s Final 2023 Summer Concert Held in Co-op City
BY P.M. CAMPBELL
The Bronx Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, held its Grand Finale on Co-op City’s Section 5 greenway on Sunday, September 3.
The event lasted from 1 to 5 p.m. and featured four groups including the Palladium Mambo All Stars, Boricua Legends, Keisha Martin & the JamRock Soul Xperience, as well as Frankie Morales and his band. Emblem Health, Essen Health Care, and Ponce Bank, distributed information and goods, and were among more than a dozen other sponsors who made the event possible. The concert series was organized by Borough President Gibson and began in July, running every Sunday until the start of September.
“I love that we can all come together as people in spaces and places to celebrate who we are as a community – that is why we have had these amazing concerts,” said Borough President Gibson.
The Borough President has held the showcase at Orchard Beach in the past, but the multi-million dollar construction on the beach’s Pavilion caused her ofthe Bronx, including Crotona Park, St. Mary’s, Van Cortland, Bronx Park East, and Ferry Point Park, but made the explicit decision to end the summer in Co-op City. She celebrated the show as a means to present the music of different cultures and nationalities, and thanked all the sponsors, collaborators, and workers who made the event possible.
Singer Frankie Morales said that the goal of his band is to ensure “that people don’t forget where the music came from, especially legends like Tito Puente, Machito, Johnny Pacheco … [because] they’re the ones that started the music.”
Members of the audience danced to Latin music provided by Morales, the All Stars, and the Boricua Legends, as well as the R&B-reggae fusion and lovers
rock provided by Keisha Martin and the JamRock Soul experience featuring Kween Soul. The free performance invited Co-op shareholders and New Yorkers in general to gather as a community and to celebrate the Labor Day weekend.

Project X Construction Update
Good news! Ramp C’s closure – and pending destruction – has been put off until Monday, Sept. 18, 2023. That gives us one more week to save Ramp C and our communal peace of mind.
Many of Section 5’s less aggressive drivers take Ramp C to avoid dealing with I-95N altogether. Many are concerned that removing Ramp C could increase emergency vehicle response time. could be prevented by preserving Ramp C.
What can you do to Save Ramp C? Call our state legislators. Tell them you’re calling about the Bruckner-Hutch Mobility Improvement Project X 731.27. Tell them:
1. Losing Ramp C would inconvenience and endanger the thousands and thousands of people in Section 5.
2. Removing Ramp C would add, not reduce, of I-95N.
3. Ramp C could preserve full access to the coming railroad station. DeCall:

“Back to School” Event: A Day of Unity, Generosity, and Celebration
On August 19th, Building 26 Association buzzed with life, hosting a vibrant “Back to School” event. Set in the newly renovated Association Room, the atmosphere was electric, as residents mingled and participated in an array of activities that spanned the day. This event wasn’t just a celebration of the upcoming academic year; it was an embodiment of generosity, camaraderie, and of course, delicious food.
The day commenced with a heartfelt gesture: the distribution of school supplies. This act was more than just providing the essentials; it symbolized the unity and mutual support of the community as another academic year approached.
The gathering was more than just fun—it was an avenue for community members to foster deeper connections, interact in meaningful ways, and engage with the dynamic board members.
A special acknowledgment goes out to our generous supporters. Their contributions played an integral role in making the event a resounding success. In an age where genuine human connections can sometimes seem elusive, this event stood as a testament to the idea that shared experiences and genuine interactions remain vital for a thriving community. Stay tuned for more events in the future!

It Is Time To Love On You
I hope you all enjoyed your summer. Time is moving fast. At times, more than 24 hours is needed to do all you intend to do: twenty-four hours, 1,440 minutes daily. Now, ask yourself. How many minutes did you take to love yourself, take a deep breath, and exhale the stress, worries, and anxiety?

One thing I have learned as a caregiver is to be receptive to unpredictable, uncertain, and uncontrolled circumstances. Caregivers function with a day-by-day thought process. You make plans and know that set plans are usually met with frequent adjustments. Taking time out for self-care can be rejuvenating. Take time out with supportive and non-judgmental friends who allow you to vent about your caregiver’s journey. It is fun to laugh, play games, and act silly sometimes. Thank God for the friendships you have nurtured. I have learned to ask, “God to grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” Take one day at a time and a day for yourself. keep your body and soul alive and well. Self-care is of your mind, emotions, and every part of yourself. Taking time to nurture yourself is critical for your well-being. Taking care of others close to you is care of yourself is not a sign of weakness but that you have the inner strength to give your body what it needs to feel nourished, loved, and cared for.
Caring for your body, mind, and spirit is your greatest responsibility. It’s about listening to the needs of your soul and then honoring them. Our bodies are our garden to which our wills are gardeners. To experience peace does not mean that your life is always blissful. It means you can tap into a blissful state of mind amidst the normal chaos of a hectic life. When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.
Please join our monthly “Let’s Talk” caregivers’ support group. Our host, Ms. Myers, author, funeral director, and speaker, will be sharing her wealth of knowledge from her recent book, “Embracing the Teardrops: Your Exclusive End of Life Planning Guide.” Ms. Myers’ book signing is on Thursday, October 5, at 6 p.m. Contact me for more information. Neighbors, Please remember to curb your dog!
First issue is, perhaps, you remember the situation with the terraces and the sudden enforcement of the Occupancy Agreement clause stipulating that webbing of the terraces is not allowed. Wees to the Occupancy Agreement require signing and agreeing to the new policy by everyone involved, including cooperators, and legal teams. Thank you, President Sonia Feliciano, for keeping promises and working with us. Thank you to the Riverbay Counsel for speaking directly with me on the issue. We recognize adjustments between high-rise and townhouse residents are necessary, they aren’t happening. An “Engineer’s Report” giving the results of tests of balconies with webbing was promised but it has not come. Riverbay Corporation now says webbings which were installed against the Occupancy Agreement and without permission must be removed by August 31st. Management says the Occupancy Agreement only allows pieces that are temporary. We say, noise, garbage and other random intrusions cannot be timed and is different on the townhouse
Putting up and taking down shouldn’t be an opand won’t be done.
Second issue this week, another letter received from “Home Protection Direct.” It is another letter sent through regular mail, saying we have a “property home warranty” on our homes. We don’t have or required to purchase this coverage.
Third issue this week is to say thank you to the powers that be for the painting of the angle side parking spaces. It’s really helpful to have these parking lines guiding where one needs to park.

Regarding garbage, reports say that 10475 is a clean zip code. How can this be when I am picking up bottles, big soda cups, candy wrappers, etc.? Please use pedestrian sidewalk bins for masks. Please do not litter!

Did you know that even with the Labor Day holiday weekend, Section 5’s community fridge/pantry (next to the Mosholu Montefiore Community Teen Center) was distributing an abundance of fresh produce to our Coop City shareholders? Fresh raspberries, strawberries, celery, lettuce and onions were just a few of the bounty distributed. Mark your calendars: Delivery dates for frozen foods, sandwiches and a variety of donated items are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Fresh produce is distributed every Saturday. Donations of dry goods or non-perishables are always welcomed too! Hope to see you soon at our community fridge/pantry!

Building 25 Association
Neighbors, as we approach the 22nd anniversary of September 11, 2001 attack on United States soil that destroyed so many lives, we promised that we would “Never Forget” and for some of us, it is “Impossible to Forget.” There are many activities going on in our community and around the city to honor those lost and affected. If you would like to, you can reach out and be part of it; information can be found on the web.
We also would like to extend a warm get well soon wish to one of our porter, Justo Valdes, as we fondly call him, “Cuba.” If wishes could help you get better, you’d be back at work you help in and around Building 25 are all rooting for you. Get well soon.
Wishing all neighbors born in September a happy birthday. For those of you who are under the weather, we hope you get better soon, and for our neighbors who continue to lose loved ones, our heartfelt prayers go out to you.
We look forward to welcoming back our neighbors and meeting new moveins. Our Building Association meeting is usually held on the third Tuesday of every month until June and then we break for the summer. The next Building Association meeting will be held Tuesday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. Look out for detailed information posted near elevators as we get closer to the meeting date.
Remember, residents of Building 25 can always address any comments or concerns by logging onto our building email address at building25ca@gmail. com. If anyone has problems accessing the building email address, please let us know.
We will close with the following: “Life is designed to knock you down. It will knock you down time and time again, but it doesn't matter how many times you fall, it matters how many times you get back up.” —Lilly Singh

Focus: “The End Time, we are moving toward in an hour as ye think not the son of man cometh.
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight, there was a cry made, behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, not so; lest there be not enough for us and you, but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And as they went, the bridegroom came; and they, that were ready, went in with him to the marriage and the door was shut. Afterward also came the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us but he answered and said, verily I say unto you I know you not Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the son of man cometh. (Matthew25:1-13) The son of man will soon return in an hour that we think not. Therefore, let us give ourselves to prayer and patiently studying the word of God, and be prepared for His return.
It is important that we keep our heart right with God with oil in our vessels, and do not be like the distress of nations, with perplexity, and when men hearts are failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. Signs are telling us that these are the days when evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. Noah had spent many years building the ark, and he knew that the season for divine judgment was near, but he did not know the exact day. The same apply to us in this time, we have seen signs and wonders, strange things are happening all around us, but we do not know the day and time of Christ return. Therefore, let us maintain a sweet fellowship with God and prepared for the coming of our Lord and savior.

Serious Setbacks in Service
We can be called by God and seek to do his will and yet misunderstand his work in our lives. Our purpose and utility in God’s kingdom are directly related to our ability to fully surrender to him. We sometimes make the mistake of separating ourselves from His will.
1. Getting Ahead of God: Moses thought he could minister in his strength and killed a man.
Acts 7:23 When Moses was 40 years old, he decided to visit his people, the Israelites. 24 He saw one being mistreated by an Egyptian, he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. 25 Moses thought that his people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.
God sent Moses to Wilderness Training School so he could change his ministerial mindset. He had to stop smelling himself and begin to smell the sheep. Some of our experiences in ministry are part of

2. Ignoring God’s Standards: Moses thought he could minister without God’s covenant and was almost killed by God. Exodus 4:24 At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met Moses and was cut off her son’s foreskin, and touched Moses’ feet with it. Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me, she said. 26 So the LORD let him alone. Zipporah was more in tune with the covenant than Moses. He had forgotten about circumcision and failed to keep this covenant promise. Make sure you surround yourself with God-fearing, God-honoring, and God-seeking people. Stop compromising.
3. Removing God Focus: Moses usurped God’s authority and lost entrance to the Promised Land. Numbers 20:11 Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. 12 But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this com-

God will strengthen us as we continue to travel through this storm. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 The Coop City Baptist Church exists to glorify God and to establish a living community of people who follow the teachings of Jesus the Christ through worship, prayer, Bible Study and fellowship. We seek to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the church through ministry.

munity into the land I give them.
For a moment Moses forgot the true leader was God and lost the ability to lead. We cannot become so ministry-focused that we belittle God or his peodo and how we do it must point to God. We need to check ourselves often to be safe.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
May the peace of the Lord be with you.
Iglesia Cristiana Marcos 16:15 cordially invites the Hispanic community to come gather and worship with us.
The God who created the universe, the most powerful being ever, loves you personally. He loves you, not just people in general, but you as a person. He cares about your life and wants to be part of it. Even if you’ve spent your whole life running from God or done things you regret, He still loves you and wants to have a relationship with you.
If you are looking for a church to worship our Lord and Savior, if you feel alone, wounded, depressed, and need liberation, our doors are open to receive you. Jesus is willing and able to free you and heal you.

Reminder –Feeding animals
Shareholders are reminded that it is a violation of your lease to place food out for animals to eat. A Community Complaint may be issued for littering to anyone who puts food out for any reason. Well-intentioned cooperators may think they are putting food out for stray cats or birds, but the food ends up attracting rats, raccoons, skunks, coyotes or other animals which can be a threat to residents.
Feeding wildlife, such as geese, also tends to change the migration
Food placed out for animals is often lacking in the nutrition needed by the animals and serves to upset their ecological balance. Please resist the urge to place food out for animals in Co-op City or elsewhere.
Thank you for your cooperation.
