Ecolution by Scania fuel options Scania offers a unique choice of renewable fuels for a wide range of applications. All the fuel options are tried, tested and ready to use. Here and now. Your Scania dealer will be happy to recommend the best fuel for your particular needs. This of course depends on your type of operation – and local or national fuel supply conditions.
tion properties, with a carbon dioxide reduction of at least 70% (according to EU Directive 2009/28/EC). Natural gas is not an ideal replacement for diesel since it is still a fossil fuel, although emissions of regulated substances are handily reduced. With a gas supply infrastructure in place biogas may well be the perfect solution for urban applications.
Diesel Diesel is the most common fuel for long-distance operation, and in many cases the only solution. Ecolution by Scania for diesel-fuelled vehicles is all about minimising fuel consumption and thereby CO2 emissions. This is where the complete concept with optimised specifications, Scania Driver Training, Scania Driver Support, Scania Driver Follow-up and the special Maintenance+ programme will make all the difference.
Ethanol Ethanol offers the best cost-efficiency and operating radius of the currently available renewable fuels for city centre and urban operation. Scania has delivered ethanol buses for more than 20 years to countries around the globe with successful operational and environmental results. The engines are based on diesel combustion, giving up to 40% higher efficiency than Otto engines. Ethanol fuel has much lower CO2 emissions compared to a diesel engine. The technology is mature and viable for intense everyday city service, as verified by bus operators in cities all over the world. Ethanol trucks for distribution and refuse collection are now entering the market.
Biodiesel Biodiesel is a liquid renewable diesel fuel produced from esterified plant oil, such as rapeseed (RME) or soybeans (SME). It is part of the FAME family of fuels (fatty acid methyl ester) defined by the EN14214 standard. Biodiesel is an easy-to-handle renewable fuel that can be mixed with regular diesel. Scania supports and encourages the use of up to 100% biodiesel in all its diesel engines. Talk to your dealer for advice and individual recommendations. Biogas Gas propulsion is often favoured by operators and public authorities for several reasons. If the biogas is supplied locally, for instance from waste or sewage plants, gas operation has excellent emission reduc-
