Til dere der hjemme På 1. og 2. trinn er det først og fremst muntlig engelsk vi legger vekt på. Elevene skal snakke, lytte, synge, leke og dramatisere, men etter hvert også lese og skrive litt. Oppmuntre barnet ditt til å peke på hvert ord når dere leser. Ikke forvent at barnet skal lese helt alene, men bruk medlesing. Hvis barnet uttaler ord feil, kan du gjerne gjenta det for å vise riktig uttale. De seks første temaene i denne boka dekker lærestoff for både 1. og 2. trinn. De siste hører til 2. trinn. Skolens plan avgjør hvilken progresjon det legges opp til. Diplomene bakerst i boka er ment som en språksjekk etter hvert kapittel. De gir en oversikt over det barnet har tilegnet seg ut fra læringsmålene. Ekornsymbolet betyr at det er litt mer krevende oppgaver. På elevnettstedet Stairs.cdu.no kan dere øve med varierte oppgavetyper. Det er en fordel at dere jobber med de samme kapitlene som barnet arbeider med på skolen. Under Ordbank fins samtlige ord med

lyd, slik at barnet kan lytte til, øve på og uttale ord på egen hånd. Oppgaver under Flash Cards lar også barnet få øve på det grunnleggende ordforrådet med bilde og tekst.
