COSTA RICA SAN JOSE

International Business International business students can spend their summer earning credits while immersing into Costa Rican culture. They’ll choose business courses in fields such as Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Mathematics, and optional electives in Communication, Humanities, and International Relations. Students may also take a Spanish language course during this 15-week program. Courses are taught in English through our partner university, Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnologia (ULACIT). They’ll attend class with Costa Rican and other international students for an integrated experience abroad, all designed to prepare students for careers in the global marketplace.

Service Learning Students spend five weeks gaining hands-on sustainable development experience in the agricultural town of Pejibaye. Surrounded by the verdant Talamanca mountains, rural Pejibaye is the ideal jumping-off point to explore nearby Río Macho Forest Reserve, Tapantí National Park, and the historic city of Cartago. Students attend class for one week in San José before immersing into local life in a homestay in Pejibaye. Here, they’ll attend classes -- taught in English through our partner university,ULACIT – inside the stunning La Marta Wildlife Refuge while working side-by-side with local organizations on sustainable development projects. An optional Latin American Culture & Intercultural Communication course allows them to further explore Costa Rican culture. This dynamic program is designed for students at high-beginner and above levels of Spanish proficiency.

SAN JOSE

International Internship

Hands-on work skills. Enhanced Spanish language proficiency. Resume-boosting experience. Students gain all this and more with CEA’s International Internship in San José, Costa Rica. Designed for students at the advanced Spanish level and above, local internship placements are available in fields including social work, education, business, marketing, political science, and health. Students spend 20 hours a week at their internship site and complete an internship seminar; they may also opt to enroll in an intensive, four-week Spanish language course prior to the start of their internship and choose one or two elective courses from the curriculum at our partner institution, Veritas University.

Spanish Language, Liberal Arts & Environmental Sciences

Designed for students at all levels of Spanish proficiency, CEA’s Spanish Language, Liberal Arts & Environmental Sciences program allows students to explore Costa Rica’s culture, history, and unrivaled biodiversity, all while improving their Spanish fluency. Students take courses through our partner institution, Veritas University. They’ll complete at least one Spanish language course and choose up to three electives from subjects like Communications, Political Science, Environmental Science, and Photography. Electives are taught in students’ choice of English or Spanish, making this program an ideal way to immerse into Tico culture and student life, regardless of language proficiency level.

FRANCE PARIS

French Language Immersion Students at all levels of French proficiency can dive deeply into local language and culture in CEA’s French Language Immersion program. Offered through our partner institution, Catholic University of Paris, summer students take French language courses that focus on phonetics, listening comprehension, oral/ written expression, and vocabulary development. Along with French language courses, semester students also choose liberal arts electives in subjects such as Art History, Cultural Studies, Film Studies, History, Music, and Political Science. All classes are taught in French, adding to students’ immersion experience in the vibrant City of Light.

IRELAND DUBLIN

International Internship Gaining hands-on experience while building resumes, growing professional networks, and immersing into Irish culture? It must be an International Internship in Dublin. Students spend a semester or summer in a carefully chosen placement with a small- to midsized organization in fields like tourism, media, PR, accounting, marketing, IT, education, non-profit, or charity work. Students take a seminar course to complement their internship experience. Semester students also enroll in three or four elective courses with the option to take in a business course through our academic partner, the International School of Business, Dublin.

ITALY FLORENCE

Life is Beautiful: Art & Photography in Italy

This summer program is designed for students who wish to study the masters – Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli, Donatello – in the very place where they lived, worked, and found the inspiration to create their masterpieces. Students choose one or two courses from options such as Photography in Florence; The Great Masters: Leonardo, Michelangelo & Raphael; and Beginning Italian. All courses support the program’s academic theme and are appropriate for students of all majors. Coursework is grounded in theory, while on-site learning draws on the vibrant and historic city of Florence to bring lessons learned in class to life.

Made in Italy: Food & Fashion

Italy is known for its amazing cuisine and its innovative couture; in CEA’s Made in Italy: Food & Fashion, students explore these facets of Italian culture in an up-close-and-personal way that transforms Florence into a living classroom. Offered in July, this one- or twocourse program caters to students of all majors. Classes like Culture of Food & Wine in Italy, Fashion Marketing & Merchandising, and Beginning Italian I provide an ideal blend of theory and hands-on learning that allows students to experience life in Italy and engage with local culture.

SPAIN ALICANTE

Intensive Spanish Language Designed for students who want to learn Spanish quickly, gain fluency, or hone existing skills, the Intensive Spanish Language program is appropriate for students at all levels of language proficiency. Students immerse into Spanish language and embrace local culture in Alicante. This coastal city is known for its vibrant culture, rich history, trending food scene, and amazing weather (more than 320 sunny days per year!). Students may opt to take the DELE exam, an internationally recognized accreditation of Spanish fluency; semester students can also choose to complete a career-boosting international internship.

Spanish Language & Culture CEA’s Spanish Language & Culture program allows students at all Spanish proficiency levels to immerse into student life in Alicante. They’ll spend a semester, a summer, or a short term exploring local culture and honing their language skills. This program is ideal for students who want to complement Spanish language coursework with elective courses taught in Spanish. They’ll choose from a wide range of electives in subjects including Art, Business, Cinema, Culture, Conversation, and Literature, all offered through our local partner, the University of Alicante. Semester students may choose to gain hands-on experience an international internship; all students may opt to take the DELE exam, an internationally recognized accreditation of Spanish fluency.

Spanish Language & Integrated Studies Sun, sand, sea, and Spanish…students experience it all when they immerse into student life in Alicante. They’ll take classes alongside other host national and international students; this integration is an ideal way to engage with local culture. Students choose from a wide range of courses in subject areas including Business, Arts, Humanities, Architecture, Economics, Computer Sciences, Health Sciences, Engineering, Education, Spanish Language, and more, allowing them to earn credits toward their major or fulfill graduation requirements. SPAIN BARCELONA

Pre-Law Honors Program

Students with an interest in international, comparative, and European law can gain insight into the global dimensions of law in CEA’s Pre-Law Honors Program. This hybrid program is offered in Spring semester through the CEA Barcelona Center and our partner institution, Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). UPF’s School of Law is among the top internationalized law schools in Southern Europe and offers courses in private, international, European, and comparative law. Designed for students with a minor or concentration in legal studies, international relations, or political science, the Pre-Law Honors Program allows students to explore and compare European and North American legal systems.

Business, Design and Innovation

Explore the intersections of business and design in CEA’s Business & Design program. Offered jointly through the CEA Barcelona Center and our partner, the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), this hybrid program is designed for students at all Spanish language proficiency levels who have an interest in business, design, and Spanish culture. Students choose marketing, design, and entrepreneurship courses -taught in English – and electives that help them gain a deeper understanding of their host country and culture. Studying business and design in the vibrant city of Barcelona provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to compete in today’s global marketplace.

SEVILLE

Interdisciplinary Studies

Students can spend the month of June exploring the colorful history and diverse cultural influences of Seville, Spain. This flexible four-week offering allows students to hone their Spanish skills with language courses at the Beginning and Intermediate levels and choose one or two electives, taught in English or Spanish, including The Culture of Food & Wine in Spain and Christian, Muslim & Jewish Heritage in Spain. Not only is Seville one of Spain’s most affordable study abroad locations, it’s also an ideal setting in which to explore the many cultures that have shaped Spanish society through time, and to gain insight into a contemporary society that functions in a state of harmonious interdependence.
