Dear Students & Parents, As we celebrate our 15th year as a study abroad company, CEA Global Education is proud of the more than 26,000 students we’ve helped acquire an international education through the opportunity and advantages of study abroad. We continue to be dedicated to providing you with the cross-cultural skills and experience that will make you a competitive candidate in today’s globalized job market. We understand that credentials such as intercultural knowledge, an understanding of global issues and the ability to relate across cultures continue to be of increasing value in the marketplace – especially today, when one in every two college graduates is unemployed or underemployed. At CEA Global Education, we’re committed to helping our students take that important first step toward preparing for the global marketplace through opportunities such as internships, service learning and volunteer experiences, and new this year, the Global Career Development Certificate. To that end, we continue to expand our Global Education Network to assist students in acquiring global competence skills. Whether you wish to take courses in English or a foreign language, courses that count toward your major or electives that help you discover new interests, CEA offers more than 100 academic options in 22 cities across our 9 Global Campuses, 31 Global Partner institutions and our esteemed Global Alliance. Of course, we couldn’t help students explore these expansive academic communities without the expertise of our international resident faculty and staff. Well-published and highly experienced in the field of study abroad, our resident faculty and staff are who make students’ experience abroad enjoyable, rewarding, eye-opening, safe and life-changing. As always, our team of advisors and financial coordinators remain dedicated to providing one-on-one assistance to students throughout the entire study abroad process, in addition to our executive leadership who work hard to ensure students’ experience abroad is a safe and meaningful one. We are proud to be a leader in helping students like you acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to compete on an increasingly globalized professional stage. I invite you to consider the many ways in which CEA Global Education can help you achieve your goals.

TITLE How to Pay for Study Abroad
CEA Students on Excursion to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse
Before you apply for your program, you should consider how you’re going to pay for study abroad. Aside from choosing the best program to fit your academic needs, this easily will be the most important decision you make in preparing to study abroad. We highly suggest that you establish a clear plan for meeting your financial needs before you make your confirmation payment. Talk to your university study abroad office, your parents and of course, your CEA student accounts advisor to help you along the way.
Step 1: Determine the Cost Determine the cost of your program. This part is easy. You can find the most current program prices online through our Program Search. www.GoWithCEA.com/Programs
Step 2: Live Abroad Your study abroad program price will cover your tuition, housing and several other amenities, but it doesn’t include eating out, any weekend travel you want to do (and trust us, you’ll want to), or entertainment. You can find sample budgets online through your MyCEA Account. An admissions counselor or site specialist can also help you find them.
Step 3: Apply for Financial Aid If your university allows it, you can transfer your Student Federal Aid toward all or part of your study abroad program cost. It’s free to fill out a FAFSA application to begin the application process, and if you are eligible, the government will disburse the loan directly to your university. A student accounts advisor will work with you to obtain the appropriate paperwork and signatures to meet your university’s requirements.
10 10
Step 4: Consider a Payment Plan To ensure both simplicity and flexibility in your CEA experience abroad, we offer a Payment Plan for students looking to fulfill their study abroad program expenses in a timely and successful manner. Our Payment Plans include all amounts paid by students to CEA (not amounts payable to your university) and are set for specific amounts on incremental dates – monthly, weekly, bi-weekly, etc., adaptable to your needs. You’ll also enjoy no set up or administrative fees with your plan if you make payments as scheduled with your student accounts advisor.
Step 5: Look for Special Offers CEA posts special offers throughout the year for various programs and cities, depending on availability and demand. Special offers are limited in quantity and students must apply for a qualifying program while the promotion is available. Special offers may not be combined with any other discount or offer.
Step 6: Apply for Scholarships Did you know you can apply for scholarships for study abroad? We can’t stress this enough: Do not overlook these opportunities to obtain more funding for study abroad! • CEA offers up to $3,000 scholarships for students who meet our requirements based on merit and need. • Many academic and international organizations offer scholarships, such as the Boren Awards for International Study, Rotary Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, the Benjamin Gilman Foundation, and more! • Check out FastWeb.com, answer some questions and discover what other scholarships are available to you!
Bonus: Go Again If you should return home bitten by the travel bug (it’s been known to happen), CEA offers discounts to our alumni (up to $500 to go again), as well as to students who wish to combine more than one program (up to $500 to combine two semester or trimester programs).

Considered Chile’s premiere seaside resort, Viña del Mar provides a great stepping stone to a semester or summer of Spanish language and Latin American cultural study. A short drive from Santiago, Viña del Mar is more laid-back and friendlier than Santiago, Chile’s capital city. Viña del Mar is conveniently situated and gives visitors easy access to Chile’s many natural wonders. The country’s topography ranges from the Andes Mountains and arid deserts to sandy beaches and lakes. Home to a large number of parks and gardens, as its reputation as the Garden City promises, the city is also known for its annual Viña del Mar International Song Festival, held in February. Hone your Spanish language skills while experiencing and absorbing all the Chilean culture has to offer through hands-on excursions to nearby Santiago, a trip to Isle Negra - home to the famous Chilean writer Pablo Neruda, or a tour of the Valparaíso Wineries and the grape harvest.
CEA Global Education has strategically partnered with the University of Viña del Mar, which is well-known for being on the forefront of internationalization at home. Full curriculum and language programs alike attract international students from Europe, Canada, the U.S., and other Latin American countries. CEA students of all language levels have access to a wide range of language and culture courses through the university’s Department of International Relations and Outreach (DRI). Whether looking for a short-term or semester program, language students will find an academic option to fit their needs and schedule. Students with advanced language skills are invited to take integrated courses with local Chilean students and experience the Chilean university environment first hand. The university includes schools of architecture, art and design, agricultural sciences, communications, law, education, humanities, engineering, health sciences, business, and technology. Students studying with CEA at the University of Viña del Mar will spend most of their time at the Montaña and Rodelillo campuses. The Montaña campus hosts the Centro de Español in the heart of Viña del Mar and it is only a short bus ride from the university’s main campus, Rodelillo, located in the upper part of the city.

Viña del Mar International Song Festival
If you are in Viña del Mar during the third week of February, you won’t want to miss the International Song Festival, the most popular music festival in Latin America. This fun and exciting event began 51 years ago as a platform for emerging stars to showcase their talent. The format of the event has shifted from a traditional musical festival to more of an awards show. A pop song and folk song competition takes place, where the audience, known as “The Monster,” decides through their reaction of cheering or booing if the performer wins an award or is taken off stage. International music stars from around the world entertain the audience between the competitive performances. Some stars who have performed in the past include Journey, Nelly Furtado and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Shanghai

As China’s “Gateway to the West,” Shanghai holds an ancient history tucked under its iconic skyline. With a long history of trade as China’s leading port town, Shanghai is considered a golden land of opportunity for many Chinese in the 21st century. Its young, trendsetting population is known for its fascination with everything hip and ultra-modern, but the city’s colonial past is not hard to find as you explore its many green spaces, park bridges and interlocking canals. Shanghai is the ideal place to observe first hand the making of China’s future. Its economy once based primarily on fishing and textiles, today the city flourishs as an important center of commerce between the East and West, and is a multinational hub of the finance industry. Get to know China’s culture and heritage through hands-on CEA activities. Practice early morning Taiji alongside locals, learn and participate in a tea ceremony, or try your hand at calligraphy.
Students may choose from several academic options in Shanghai, each representing diverse learning environments. Hosted on the campus of East China Normal University, the Global Campus allows students to enroll in curriculum taught in English, while also interacting with Chinese peers both inside and outside of the classroom. Chinese language courses for all proficiency levels incorporate cutting-edge instructional technology and real-life scenarios. All courses encourage student engagement and critical thinking, and also make use of Shanghai as the classroom, incorporating visits to museums, local companies and community gatherings. Students may choose to experience a more traditional Chinese university setting firsthand through CEA’s Global Partner, Shanghai Normal University, which offers programming focused on Chinese language acquisition. These complementary programs are supervised by our Program Director, Yan Liang, who brings extensive experience in international travel and business to CEA’s programs in Shanghai. Originally from Shanghai, Yan spent seven years living and working in the U.S., where she ran a travel company specializing in business travel from China to the U.S.

Active Learning Close-Up Students in the Shanghai: Imperialism, Revolution and Modernity course at the Global Campus in Shanghai can study Shanghai as a microcosm of China. The city exemplifies the social consequences of change, embodied most recently by the emergence of a new entrepreneurial elite, the small but growing middle class, and the large “floating population” of rural migrants illegally residing in the city. As part of the course, you’ll visit significant locations around the city, including the Bund and the foreign concessions, the site where the Chinese Communist Party was founded and the Pudong economic zone. The exploration, on-site discussion and analysis led by specialists in the history of Shanghai, provide context for your understanding of evolving urban spaces.

Experience Prague, Czech Republic Serving as a major economic and cultural center of the Czech Republic, Prague is a modern city that still retains the original allure of a former age. The Velvet Revolution of November 1989 saw the overthrow of the Communist regime. On January I, 1993, the Czechoslovak state was peacefully divided and the independent Czech and Slovak Republics were founded. Galway
Galway has more of a small-town and university feel to it than Dublin, and offers easy access to more of the traditional landscapes students might associate with Ireland, including the Cliffs of Moher, Connemara and the Aran Islands. The Irish language thrives amongst the Connemara locals who still speak Irish as their native tongue. The creative arts flourish throughout this bohemian city, with music, theatrical production and literature all contributing to Galway’s humble appeal. Nicknamed “Ireland’s Cultural Heart,” Galway offers students the ideal opportunity to explore traditional, yet vibrant, Irish culture through numerous festivals, celebrations and events. The city hosts the Galway Arts Festival every July, drawing more than 150,000 people for its International celebration of performing and visual arts. Other events worth attending include the Galway Races in August and the Galway International Oyster Festival in September.

See firsthand what makes this city a catalyst for art, music and visual cultures through its contrasting styles of architecture, including medieval Gothic cathedrals and Gaudi’s surreal buildings. In your spare time, wander the outdoor markets along Las Ramblas, the city’s famous tree-lined promenade, or enjoy a traditional “Paella” at one of the many restaurants by the sea.
CEA Global Education offers you a choice of several unique academic options in cosmopolitan Barcelona. The Global Campus in Barcelona offers an extensive range of subject areas taught by experienced international faculty. Many courses incorporate global perspectives, contain elements of experiential learning, and use the city’s maximum potential as an ideal international learning environment. Experience Granada, Spain Author Ernest Hemingway once said, “If you were to visit only a city in Spain, this should be Granada.” Granada is a fairytale city, known for its unique historic, artistic and cultural heritage. Some of its most important attractions include the Alhambra Palace, the gardens at the Palacio del Generalife, and arab neighborhood of Albayzín - all declared World Heritage sites by UNESCO. Enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of a smaller urban area and an economy more focused on its universities and students than tourists - the ideal setting to hone your Spanish language skills.

Granada also offers you countless cultural events like flamenco, jazz, tango, film festivals, theater, poetry, a vibrant night life, sophisticated shopping area and traditional markets. Granada is less than an hour from the Mediterranean beaches and the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. Take a break from your studies and escape to the multitude of recreational and cultural attractions that surround the area.
CEA Global Education has strategically partnered with The University of Granada, established in 1531. Over the last five centuries, it has grown to be the third largest university in Spain. Its influence as a center of social and cultural importance continues to grow, making it one of the major intellectual focal points in Spain and an ideal CEA Global Partner. The University offers diverse academic options from an intensive language program to programs that integrate students with other Spanish students in the classroom, the latter intended for students at a more advanced language level. However, beginning Spanish students should not consider language a barrier as CEA in Granada also offers electives taught in English. Recently added to our programs, our Arabic Cultural Studies option provides a unique glimpse into Adalusian and Islamic history and culture. As a CEA student, you’ll attend classes at the University of Granada’s Modern Language Center, Centro de Lenguas Modernas, established in 1992.

Parent Information Section Parent
When it comes to study abroad, students aren’t the only ones embarking on this eye-opening journey. As a parent, you play a crucial role in your student’s experience and should be looped in on key, need-to-know essentials of CEA’s study abroad services. While the guidance and support from our advising team helps students take a proactive approach in planning their experience, the same guidance is available to parents of CEA students. Here’s a crash course in studying abroad with CEA:
Study Abroad 101 – the Basics Budgets – What am I Getting for My Buck? • CEA’s program prices include tuition and fees, housing and meal options, transfer credit, overseas staff, predeparture information, airport welcome reception, on site orientation, immersion activities, excursions, volunteer, opportunities and more. • In addition to the program price, students should budget for airfare, travel insurance, school supplies, entertainment, food and any additional travel they plan on doing abroad.
Visa v. Passport – What’s the Difference? • A passport is an identification document issued by the U.S. government that proves you are a U.S. citizen and authorized to leave the country (your student NEEDS one of these to study abroad). • A visa is issued by the consulate of the foreign country in which your student is studying abroad and grants him or her permission to enter and stay in the country. Students can provide you with a detailed visa guidelines document from their MyCEA Account should you want more information.
Parent Prep Although it may not seem like it, parents and guardians experience a bit of culture shock themselves when their student studies abroad. Whether you’re a hands-on or hands-off parent, your ability to directly assist your student during study abroad is limited. Maintain peace of mind by following these tips: • Because your student is 18 or older, and a legal adult, make sure he/she gives CEA permission to discuss with you the information in their MyCEA Account. • Make sure your student has provided you with several different contact methods, including the CEA office in the U.S. and on site, your student’s home and cell phone numbers, and an e-mail address. • Understand that life abroad is different than back at home – housing tends to be smaller, internet strength tends to be limited and air conditioning is not the norm – but differences like these are part of the adventure! Encourage your student to embrace the differences. With your support, they are more likely to adjust in less time. • Have a copy of your student’s passport and a valid passport of your own.
110
Services You Should Know CEASecure™ – the 5 Ws • WHO: You, your student and anyone financially responsible for your student’s program. • WHAT: A special refund plan that allows students to withdraw from their CEA program for any covered reason up to one calendar week before their program’s start date. • WHEN: Students can apply for this service during their program application process. • WHERE: Plan is in effect up to one week before a student’s program start date AND covers trip interruption refunds under specified conditions – medical, terrorist attack, failure to obtain a student visa. • WHY: CEASecure™ frees you and your student to enjoy the excitement of planning for study abroad without worry of the unexpected.
Payment Plan – Study Abroad IS Affordable! • Fulfill study abroad program expenses timely and successfully through a series of incremental payments – monthly, weekly, bi-weekly, etc. • Plan includes all amounts paid out of pocket by Payer and can be set for specific amounts based on student needs. • Plan adjustments are allowed as students accrue additional fees, such as housing upgrades, optional excursions, etc. • No fee required for setting up or administering a plan.
Health & Safety Services • CEA automatically registers all study abroad participants with our medical insurance provider, Consolidated Health Plan (CHP), giving them access to international, 24-hour medical support. • International staff is familiar with all of CEA’s emergency procedures, has practiced various emergency scenarios in preparation, provides students with health and safety information as well as 24-hour contact information while abroad, and registers all students with the local U.S. embassy or consulate.
Talk to Your Student Help motivate careful study abroad planning by asking these questions of your future CEA study abroad participant: • Have you gone over the program with your academic advisor at school and received approvals? • Have you discussed transfer credit with your CEA Advisor and how to facilitate this process? • Have you read the Student Handbook on the Resources section of your MyCEA Account? • Did you know your preferred housing assignment is not guaranteed, and that depending on the option you select, your meal plan could change?
• Have questions about your student’s health and safety abroad? CEA advisors are available to talk with you.

Start Talking Conversation Starters to Help Guide Your Decision Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity to consider, isn’t it? But before you start packing your suitcase, there are some important questions to ask yourself, as well as those individuals who can help you make the best choice for you. Careful planning leads to intelligent decision-making and the freedom to take full advantage of all a study abroad experience has to offer. Hey, it’s called being an adult!
Parents • How will study abroad add to my college experience and degree? • How do we plan to pay for a study abroad program? • When should I plan to go on a study abroad program? • How will we communicate while I’m abroad? In an emergency? • Do I need to reschedule/schedule doctor’s/dentist’s appointments before my study abroad program?
College Advisor or Study Abroad Advisor • How can study abroad add to my college experience and degree? • What study abroad programs/providers does my university approve? • Will my university transfer my financial aid and/or scholarships to my study abroad provider? • Which of my major/elective requirements can I satisfy through a carefully chosen study abroad program? • When is a good time to go during my college years?
CEA Global Education • Have you studied abroad? What personal advice can you give me? • How do I choose a program that’s right for me? • Should I try to choose housing with friends? How can I make friends while abroad? • How easy is it to find my way around the city? • What can I expect to experience from the local culture?

If CEA incurs an expense on my behalf that is not covered by insurance, I agree to make immediate repayment upon my return. I hereby acknowledge that this Application does not create any affirmative duty or responsibility for CEA to take any action should I become sick or injured while participating in a Program. 7. I also authorize release to CEA, through my signature below, protected health and mental health records, such release expiring on completion of the Program. By signing below and providing this release, I understand that: • I can revoke this Authorization at any time by giving my written revocation to the Disclosing Provider/Covered Entity. My revocation is not effective as to disclosures already made and actions already taken in reliance upon this Authorization. • I can refuse to sign this Authorization, and the disclosing provider/plan may NOT condition treatment, enrollment in the health plan or eligibility for benefits on whether I sign this Authorization. • I am authorizing disclosure of information protected under federal law. This information, once disclosed, may be subject to re-disclosure by the recipient and may no longer be protected by state and federal law. • I may ask the provider/covered entity for a copy of the protected health information being disclosed under this Authorization.
• I will be provided with a signed copy of this Authorization. • A photostatic copy of this document shall have the same effect as the original of same. Authorization to release health and mental health records does not create an affirmative duty or obligation for CEA to do a background check of Applicant as Applicant remains obligated to be honest and forthright, and not omit or misrepresent information requested. CEA reserves the right to obtain records pursuant to this release, within the applicable period, in the event of ambiguity of information, disputes or unanticipated or unusual conduct exhibited during the Program. 8. I will comply with all CEA’s Policies, including its rules, standards, instructions and practices for program participation behavior, including housing. I understand that failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the Program. If dismissed, I understand that (a) the cost of returning home is my own expense, and (b) I will not receive a refund of any kind. I understand that my participation may be terminated if I am expelled from school, deemed academically ineligible by the school, or otherwise disciplined by school or civil authorities, or if CEA, in its sole discretion, determines that my conduct is incompatible with the safety or welfare of other participants and/or myself, or, in any way undermines the Program. I agree to indemnify CEA if I do anything that causes CEA to sustain financial loss or liability. 9. I understand that CEA requires all participants to enroll in the CEA insurance plan. I understand it provides insurance coverage for my benefit while in the Program, including health, accident and accidental death insurance. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to understand the limitations of this coverage and agree that CEA is not responsible for any uninsured losses. 10. I understand that CEA reserves the absolute right to reject my application or dismiss me from a Program if, after acceptance, CEA learns of a condition (personal, medical, academic and/or psychological) which in the reasonable opinion of CEA may endanger me or others, and/or puts me at risk in a foreign country, and/or shows a history of an inability to adapt to challenging situations, and/or creates or requires burdens and resources not required or necessary to maintain other students. 11. I understand that CEA occasionally uses statements made by its students and/or their photographs in marketing materials on the web and in print. I consent to such use of my statements or photographs of me. I agree that CEA may add my name and e-mail address to an e-mail distribution list which will be shared by other participants on my Program, unless I notify CEA in writing otherwise. 12. I authorize CEA to release my Application and supporting documentation to my host institution(s), my home institution(s), their personnel and CEA Staff. 13. I understand that CEA or the sponsoring academic institution reserves the right to make changes, cancellations or substitutions to the Program for insufficient enrollment, emergency or changed conditions or based upon the interest of the group. I understand that any expenses incurred due to these changes, cancellations or substitutions are at my expense. If I choose to leave the Program as a result of these changes, I understand there will be no refund of program fees or of any expenses already paid. 14. I understand that obtaining a passport and any other required travel documents is my sole responsibility. Whether I am a U.S. citizen or not, I shall hold CEA harmless in the event I cannot or choose not to obtain the necessary documents for participation in the Program. I understand that the inability to obtain these visas and other documents does not constitute grounds for a refund or waiving any program fees. 15. Any action or suit brought relating to this Application or my participation in a Program must be commenced and maintained in the appropriate state court of Arizona, located in Phoenix, Arizona or a Federal district court located in Phoenix, Arizona as applicable. The parties irrevocably consent to jurisdiction and venue in such courts for such purposes and agree not to seek transfer or removal of any action commenced in any such court, and agree that Arizona law applies irrespective of any conflict of laws analysis. In the event either party hereto institutes an action or other proceedings to enforce any rights arising under this Application, the party prevailing in such action or other proceeding will be paid all reasonable costs and attorney’s fees by the other party. Such fees are to be set by the court and not by a jury and to be included in any judgment or award entered in such proceeding. 16. References in this agreement to “Applicant”, or “I”, shall include the Applicant, any legal guardian or parent of the Applicant, and the Applicant’s spouse and heirs. References in this Agreement to “CEA” shall include Cultural Experiences Abroad, Inc., and its subsidiaries, and all of its officers, directors, employees, agents, interns, representatives, group leaders and host school officials.
I (or if I am a minor, my undersigned parent or legal guardian) certify that all of the information I have provided on this Application is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge and I agree to inform CEA as soon as I learn of any error or change to this information. I understand that any misrepresentation, irrespective of whether innocent or intentional, may result in rejection of my application and dismissal from the CEA Program, irrespective of whether the Program commenced or not. I agree with the above Agreement and Release, including but not limited to paragraph 6 above. I acknowledge that the terms and conditions outlined in CEA’s Policies constitute part of my agreement with CEA including but not limited to sections concerning program costs, payment obligations, program changes, housing, and student code of conduct.
