Track & Field Athletes improving on Personal Records

This week in track there were multiple track meet attended by Cecil Athletes. For many teams this would be the second meet of the 2023 Outdoor Track Season. Athletes from Rising Sun competed against athletes from Patterson Mill and Havre de Grace. North East and Harford Tech competed at Elkton, while North Harford and Bo Manor were at Perryville.

Rising Sun’s Girls team won first with 97 points, and their Boys’ team tied Havre de Grace for first.
In their meet, Elkton beat North East by 1 point for girls, and Elkton took second to North East for Boys. At Perryville, Bo Manor and Perryville respectively earned second and third for girls, while on the boys side of events, Bo Manor and Perryville won first and second respectively.
Rising Sun and Patterson Mill at Havre de Grace
All athletes performed incredibly on this sunny Thursday afternoon. Many athletes set personal records at Havre de Graces track, and there were some very incredible performances. John Ferry won the 1600m with a time of 4:49.2, Travis Bare won both the 110m hurdles (17.2) and triple jump (37' 8.5). The shot put was won by Nate Blankenship, who threw 35' 4. Garrett Rees won the discus throwing 117' 8. Jakob Edwards won the long jump, with a jump of 18' 1. The boy’s 4x400m relay took home first with a time of 3:57.7. On the team were Landon Cook, John Ferry, Matthew McKay, and Nate Good.
In Girls’ events, Amanda Callaghan won the 800m run with a time of 2:35.8 and won the high jump (4' 8). Her sister Anna Callaghan won the 1600m run with a time of 6:02.0. Savannah Lacey won the 3200m run with a time of 13:59.2. Sophomore Katie Callaghan won the 100m hurdles (17.8), 300m hurdles (49.4), and triple jump (30’8”). Caroline Mercer placed first in both the shot put (29' 4) and discus (109' 6). Carly McCardell won the pole vault, vaulting 6’5”.
