1st TEAM ALL COUNTY GOLF

For the most part last year, Tyler Hogue was a golfer who boasted a lot of ability but struggled to stay consistent. In spite of that last year, Hogue was still third in the county last year in scoring average. This year was a totally different story. This year’s Tyler Hogue made great decisions all year and reigned in his power to become a bastion of consistency for Rising Sun. The senior leader shot a 42 or better in 7/8 of his matches, and shot an 80 at Districts, 82 at Counties, and a 79 on the first day of states. Hogue was the only other golfer representing Cecil at States, and started it off with a career best 9 of even-par 35.

Karina Serio continues her rapid ascension to the top of the county as not only the best girl golfer, but one of the best golfers period. Her solid junior season boasted several scores in the 30s, amongst continued success in junior competitions outside county play. Her season average of 42.7 was a slightly better performance at counties from taking the silver medal spot for the golfer of the year standings. Nevertheless, look for Serio to continue making steady improvements in her pursuit of playing collegiate golf.

Wyatt Cudmore’s rookie season was as good as advertised. The rising star boasted a season average of 43.5, which was nearly the same as teammate Noah Wallace’s average in the pandemic shortened season of 2020. Wyatt’s freshman campaign featured a 39 at his home course Chesapeake Bay GC, the second-best score of county golfers at Divisionals, and a great showing at Districts just narrowly missing a state championship berth. With a balanced toolkit and great physical talent, look for Wyatt to be a worthy successor to the throne as North East’s heir apparent ace.

The budding rivalry between Wyatt Cudmore and Lucas Kilgore was as good as advertised, with both golfers finishing with an average of 43.5 for the season. Lucas enjoyed a similar ascent as the #2 golfer for Rising Sun, highlighted by a score of 38 at Exton, three 41s, and an eye-opening second place finish of 77 at the County Championships. His career low is a testament to his prowess as a pure competitor, and his high golf IQ, love of the game, and his ability to perform under pressure will only elevate his ceiling as his techniques continue to refine.

It is no surprise that the talented Ben Adams is first team all-county. While the longtime Rising Sun leader had a rough year by his lofty standards, it was not without some highlights showcasing the potential he has going into his final season. His stretch of play at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds courses totaled a 77 for back-to-back rounds at Ruggles and Exton. Ben’s scoring average of 44.7 otherwise was very consistent aside from poor showings at Counties and Divisionals, meaning that he’s just got to make some adjustments to drop a few strokes to regain his spot amongst the county’s elite.

Noah Wallace - North East Indians

How does one follow up a season where you averaged 37.4 per 9H, and swept your way through Counties, Districts, Divisionals, and States as a sophomore? How about this for an encore performance: a 35.3 average per 9H, and repeat titles in Counties, Districts, and of course States as a junior. This offseason, Noah hit a growth spurt and gained 40 yards of distance off the tee. He also made an important swing change – moving away from the flat wrap swing he won his first title in-spite of, to a swing that is far more on plane and allows him to control his distance and spin far more effectively. The shortgame wizard now matched his prowess with the wedge and flatstick with 290+ yard tee shots and crisp irons. While the rest of the state and county improved in an effort to catch Noah, Noah doubled their pace of improvement. A season for the ages, means it is a unanimous decision to award him his second straight Golfer of the Year honors. Look for his final campaign to be even more epic as he works towards a D1 scholarship.

Karina Serio - Tome Titans

While the female representation of the county improved dramatically this past year, the female golfer of the year still unanimously goes to Tome School’s ace Karina Serio. The talented junior was nearly the second-best golfer in the county period and was the best female golfer by nearly 13 strokes per 9 holes. A golfer with aspirations to play collegiate golf, look for Karina to put in the work over the offseason to take her game to the next level. Smoothing out a few swing fundamentals and sharpening up her shortgame ought to make Karina a threat in any competition she tees up on.

Braden “Bub” Paris was an anchor for an otherwise very erratic Bo Manor team. The sweet swinging junior made tremendous strides this season with his ballstriking, and his scoring average was one of the best down the stretch. With his average of 44.9, Bub only exceeded 46 on two occasions – once in matches and the other time at Counties. The highlights of Paris’ season were a 38 at Exton and co-medaling in the Susquehanna Division championship with a 44. Paris is an exceptionally talented ballstriker, and look for his senior-year scores to drop hard after a good summer of work. He will be a lock for first team.
