El tiempo es un concepto indescifrable. Sabemos que transcurre de manera constante y que inevitablemente cambia todo lo que nos rodea. Nos sobrepasa. No lo podemos frenar ni contener, pero nos gusta pensar que lo podemos aprehender para no perder la esencia del momento. Pretendemos controlarlo bajo términos como años, días y horas. Creemos entenderlo como pasado, aceptarlo en el presente y desconocerlo en el futuro.
Time is an indecipherable concept. We know that it consistently goes by and that it inevitably changes everything around us. It surpasses us. We cannot slow it down or contain it, but we like to think that we can seize it in order to preserve the essence of the moment. We attempt to control it under such terms as years, days and hours. We think we understand it in the past, accept it in the present, and disclaim it in the future.
De los campos agrícolas de Hermosillo, al frenesí de Nueva York, hasta la saturada ciudad de Beijing, Juan Carlos Coppel, Isabella Huffington y Arturo Muela nos invitan a eternizar su irrevocable andar. Las fotografías de Coppel retratan las cicatrices de la tierra ocasionadas por su erosión, transformando su fertilidad a través del tiempo. La instalación de los dibujos encapsulados de Muela es un recordatorio de que nuestra existencia no es más que una breve secuencia de momentos insertos en una compleja e infinita red. La minuciosidad de los collages de Huffington nos permite apreciar que cada pieza es agregada a su debido tiempo.
From the agricultural fields of Sonora, to the New York City frenzy and Beijing’s saturation, artists Juan Carlos Coppel, Isabella Huffington and Arturo Muela invite us to perpetuate a fragment of time from different contexts, confirming its irrevocable course. Coppel’s photographs portray the scars of the land caused by erosion, transforming its fertility over time. Muela’s installation of encapsulated drawings reminds us that our existence is but a brief progression of instants inserted in a complex and infinite web. The thoroughness of Huffington’s collages allows us to appreciate how each piece is placed in its due time.
Sumergidos en la cotidianeidad, es difícil percibir los cambios significativos del momento y sus sutiles diferencias. Hay que detenerse para apreciar el detalle y así lograr comprender el todo. Desde México, Estados Unidos y China, los tres artistas hacen una llamada de atención, nos invitan a extrapolarnos de la rutina y sumergirnos en el momento, en el hoy. Nos recuerdan que el tiempo tiene su propio destino.
Submerged in our everyday lives, it is hard to perceive the significant changes of the moment and their subtle differences. We need to take a step back and appreciate the detail and thus comprehend the entirety of the process. From Mexico, to the United States and China, the three artists invite us to step out of our routine and immerse ourselves in the moment. They remind us that time has its own destiny.

Juan Carlos COPPEL
Juan Carlos Coppel nació en Tucson, EU en 1986 y actualmente vive y trabaja en Hermosillo, México.
Juan Carlos Coppel was born in Tucson, USA in 1986. He lives and works in the city of Hermosillo, Mexico. He studied Industrial Engineering at the Tec de Monterrey and has participated in specialized courses such as Pulitzer Prize Winner for Photography Jay Dickman’s, Manuel Abellán’s course in Paris and at the ICP in New York.
Estudió Ingeniera Industrial y de Sistemas en el ITESM Campus Monterrey. Ha tomado cursos especializados como el de National Geographic en África con Jay Dickman ganador de premio Pulitzer de fotografía-, en París con Manuel Abellán y en el Internacional Center of Photography (ICP) en Nueva York.
In 2014 he was selected for the Contemporary Photography Program (PFC), where he developed the project “Siete cerros” regarding the state of Sonora’s agriculture. The project was feature at the Sonora Museum of Art (MUSAS) in 2014. That same year, Coppel was awarded the Fotoseptiembre Sonora Acquisition Award. Throughout 2015, he has been invited to collaborate in several exhibitions such as “Existe lo que tiene nombre” at SF Camerawork in San Francisco; “Develar y detonar” in Madrid; “Guatefoto” in Guatemala and “Looking In. Looking Out. Latin American Photography” in Santa Barbara, California. Later in the year, he will be part of a group exhibition for the Programa de Arte del Norte de México (North of Mexico Art Program) at the Sonora Museum of Art (MUSAS).
En el 2014 fue seleccionado para el Programa de Fotografía Contemporánea del Norte de México (PFC) donde desarrolló el proyecto “Siete cerros”, el cuál abordó el tema de la agricultura en Sonora, México. El proyecto se exhibió en una exposición colectiva en el Museo de Arte de Sonora (MUSAS) en el 2014. Ese mismo año fue ganador del premio de Adquisición de Fotoseptiembre Sonora. A lo largo del 2015 ha sido invitado a formar parte de diversas exposiciones colectivas como “Existe lo que tiene nombre” en San Francisco (EU); “Develar y detonar” en Madrid; “Guatefoto” en Guatemala y “Looking In. Looking Out. Latin American Photography” en Santa Bárbara (EU). Próximamente participará en una exposición colectiva del Programa de Arte Norte de México en el Museo de Arte de Sonora (MUSAS).
He is a member of the Art Program of Northeastern Mexico and some of his photographs belong to the private collection of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
Actualmente es integrante del Programa de Arte Noroeste de México y forma parte de la Colección Privada de Arte del Santa Barbara Museum of Art con una fotografía de la serie ‘Siete cerros’, entre otras particulares.

Isabella Huffington nació en Los Ángeles en 1991 y actualmente radica en la ciudad Nueva York. Se graduó de la Universidad de Yale en 2014 de Historia del Arte.
Isabella Huffington was born in Los Angeles in 1991. She is currently living in New York. She graduated from Yale in 2014 with a degree in Art History.
Le interesa la idea del arte y su accesibilidad; cómo lograr que el arte sea menos intimidante y más accesible para el público general.
She’s interested in the idea of art and its accessibility, on how to make fine art less intimidating and more mainstream.

Arturo MUELA
Arturo Muela nació en la Ciudad de México en 1986. En 2002 comenzó a estudiar diversas técnicas artísticas como dibujo, grabado, pintura y escultura. En 2005 ingresó a la Universidad Iberoamericana para realizar la Licenciatura en Arquitectura, la cual concluyó en 2011. En 2007 realizó su primera obra pública, adquirida por el gobierno de Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. En 2010 tuvo su primera exposición individual en Torreón, Coahuila y un año más tarde, expuso como parte del Programa de Promoción Cultural de la Bolsa Mexicana de Valores.
Arturo Muela was born in Mexico City in 1986. In 2002, he began studying various art techniques such as engraving, drawing, painting and sculpture. In 2005 he was admitted to the Iberoamerica University to study Architecture, from which he graduated in 2011. His first public artwork was made in 2007 and was acquired by the municipal goverment of Ciudad Victoria, in the state of Tamaulipas. In 2010, he had his first solo show as part of the Cultural Promotion Program of the Mexican Stock Exchange. Three years later, he had his first international exhibition at Galería Puerta Roja in Hong Kong, China. The following year, he did a residency in Beijing at Red Gate Gallery.
En 2013 celebró su primera exposición internacional en Galería Puerta Roja en Hong Kong, China. Al año siguiente, hizo una residencia en Beijing en Red Gate Gallery. Desde entonces reside y trabaja en la capital. Asimismo, en 2014 formó el colectivo Friction, integrado por 7 artistas de distintas nacionalidades y disciplinas y cuyos objetivos son crear proyectos de arte así como constituir un espacio de diálogo, discusión y de crítica.
Since then he lives and works in the Chinese capital. In 2014, he formed Friction, a collective of seven artists of different nationalities and disciplines, whose objective is to create art and a space open for dialogue, debate and critique.
