Los trabajos recientes de Camila Rodrigo articulan situaciones visuales y espaciales que se ubican en tensión con los usos y abusos de la mano del hombre en el mundo material. El interés de la artista se ha desplazado hacia el reconocimiento obsesivo de esta huella de intervenciones invasivas por agregación y manipulación de elementos fabricados. Hay un estado de desequilibrio previo que su percepción detecta y que estaría impidiendo la comprensión de cómo podría darse una coexistencia de las cosas en unidad. Nada fluye en estos tiempos líquidos: todo se escurre. Constantemente, nuevos ritmos asaltan y se superponen a los ritmos ya existentes, y agencian transformaciones que pasan de ser cambios físicos a ser proyecciones mentales. Vivimos entre profundidades, horadaciones, contenciones gestadas en nuestra imaginación a partir de aquello que en el mundo, cada vez con mayor frecuencia, identificamos como ajeno. La mirada de Rodrigo recorre el resultado de la erosión de lo que pensamos como “natural” y recoge datos que luego elabora como nuevas topografías. Reconoce contornos que, sin dejar de ser aquellos propios de la materia, pueden ser leídos como límites arbitrarios, incomprensibles, desarticulados de nuestra cotidianeidad. Las mentalidades actuales apuntan a comprender los estratos de lo real sin mapear la interpenetración de lo sostenible y lo insostenible. Sin definir campos de significado preciso, las obras de Camila Rodrigo se valen de la escultura, la fotografía y la fotocopia para instalar un sistema intencionalmente incompleto, marcado por brechas y vacíos a modo de simulación de un proceso de desaprendizaje. Camila Rodrigo’s recent works articulate visual and spatial situations that are strained by the uses and abuses of man in the material world. Rodrigo’s interest has shifted towards the obsessive recognition of this mark’s invasive interventions, through the aggregation and manipulation of manufactured elements. There is a state of previous imbalance that her perception detects and that hinders the understanding of how the coexistence of unified things might occur. Nothing flows in these liquid times: everything trickles away. New rhythms constantly strike and overlap pre-existing ones, and create transformations that go from physical changes to mental projections. We live among depths, perforations, containment, produced by our imagination, drawn from what we increasingly identify as foreign in the world. Rodrigo’s gaze covers the result of erosion, of what we consider “natural”, and gathers data with which she later creates new topographies. She identifies outlines that - while remaining distinctive of the matter - can be interpreted as arbitrary, incomprehensible, disjointed from our daily life. Current mentalities seek to comprehend the strata of what is real without mapping the interpenetration of the sustainable and unsustainable. Without specifying areas of precise meaning, Camila Rodrigo’s artworks rely on sculpture, photography and photocopy to install an intentionally incomplete system, marked by gaps and voids, to simulate an unlearning process.

SOBRE LA ARTISTA Camila Rodrigo (Lima, Perú, 1983) trabaja con fotografía para reflexionar en torno a la erosión y al desgaste, centrándose en la idea del progreso como (de)construcción y contraste entre pasado y futuro. Sus imágenes registran el paso del tiempo, la transformación del espacio natural en paralelo a la reorganización social. Rodrigo estudió la carrera de Fotografía en el Centro de la Imagen en Lima, Perú. En 2009 inició la Maestría en Fotografía y Artes Visuales en la Universidad Naba en Milán, Italia. En 2010 fue elegida como parte de Regeneration: 70 best young photographers around the world, creado por el Musée de l’Elysée en Lausanne y, posteriormente, fue finalista en del Premio Lacoste Elysée ese mismo año. En 2014 hizo la maestría Mal de Foco: Fotografía Latinoamericana en el Centro de la Imagen en Perú. Sus proyectos han sido expuestos en el Museo Nacional de Lima, en Perú; el Rosphoto Museum en San Petersburgo, Rusia; el Musée de L’Elysée en Lausanne, Suiza, y el Palais de l’Árchevéché en Arles, Francia. También ha expuesto su trabajo en galerías en Lima, Ciudad de México, Londres, Nueva York, Amsterdam, Barcelona y Milán, entre otros.
SOBRE EL CURADOR Jorge Villacorta (Lima, Perú, 1958) es crítico de arte y curador independiente. Titulado en Genética por la Universidad de York, Reino Unido, ha desarrollado paralelamente su actividad científica con la investigación en artes visuales contemporáneas. Ha sido profesor de Historia de la Fotografía en el Instituto Gaudí y en el Centro de la Imagen. Desde hace más de diez años, imparte la clase de Arte y Comunicación en el programa de Posgrado de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Villacorta ha curado múltiples exposiciones y bienales en Lima y en el extranjero, entre las que destacan la II Bienal de Fotografía de Lima, Documentos: Tres Décadas de Fotografía Peruana 1960–1990, co-curada con Natalia Majluf en el Museo de Arte de Lima; Herbert Rodríguez: Retrospectiva del Arte Alternativo en Lima, 1979-1997 en el Centro Cultural de la PUCP, y El Laberinto de la Choledad en el Centro Cultural España de Lima. Ha sido asesor de galerías de arte, director de asociaciones y espacios culturales como Quidam Cultural Action Association y Espacio Cultural Luis Miró en Lima, Perú. Es cofundador y director académico de Alta Tecnología Andina. Actualmente vive y trabaja en Lima.
ABOUT THE ARTIST Camila Rodrigo (Lima, Peru, 1983) works with photography, sculpture and installation to reflect on the effects of erosion and wear, focusing on the idea of progress as a (de)construction, a contrast between past and future. Her images examine the passage of time, the transformation of the natural space parallel to the reorganization of society. Rodrigo studied Photography at the Centro de la Imagen in Lima, Peru. In 2009, she did a Master in Photography and Visual Arts at Naba University in Milan, Italy. In 2010, she was selected as part of Regeneration: 70 best young photographers around the world, created by the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, and later was a finalist in the Lacoste Elysée Prize. In 2014, she did the Master’s Mal de Foco: Latin American Photography at Centro de la Imagen in Peru. Her projects have been exhibited at the National Museum of Lima, in Peru; the Museum Rosphoto in St. Petersburg, Russia; the Musée de L’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Palais de l’Árchevéché in Arles, France. She has also exhibited her work in galleries in Lima, Mexico City, London, New York, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Milan, among others.
ABOUT THE CURATOR Jorge Villacorta (Lima, Peru, 1958) is an art critic and independent curator. He has a degree in Genetics from the University of York, UK. He has developed his scientific activity along with his investigation of contemporary visual arts. He was professor of History of Photography at the Gaudi Institute and Centro de la Imagen. For more than ten years, he has taught Art and Communication for the Graduate Program at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Villacorta has curated multiple exhibitions and biennials in Lima and abroad including the II Biennial of Photography in Lima, Documents: Three Decades of Peruvian Photography 1960-1990 co-curated with Natalia Majluf at the Lima Museum of Art; Herbert Rodríguez: Retrospective of Alternative Art in Lima 1979-1997 at the Cultural Center of the PUCP, and The Labyrinth of Choledad at the Spanish Cultural Center of Lima. He has worked as an art gallery consultant, director of cultural associations and spaces, such as the Quidam Cultural Action Association and Luis Miró Cultural Space in Lima. He is the co-founder and academic director of the cultural organization Alta Tecnología Andina (ATA). He currently lives and works in Lima.
