Importance of Lesson Planning One of the first things you need to learn when starting to study for being a teacher, is the creation of a good lesson plan. I have to be honest and say that when I started my practice, my lesson planning was a bit of sloppy. I didn’t have the practice that I wanted, and I had to look for help on the outside. Having a good lesson, means that you will know every single step you should take in the classroom. You will be prepared for anything that can happen. Like the military, teachers have plan a, b, and c.

I learned the hard way how important a lesson plan could be. When I started this semester, I knew that I had to plan and provide my teacher with a lesson plan. What I didn’t know was that the department of education had changed the rules and instead of creating a daily lesson plan, I had to create a weekly lesson plan. I was not prepared for this new changes, and I threw myself under the bus just like every single other teacher. In a short period of time I had to adapt myself and become the best lesson plan writer.

The key to every lesson plan is to have a specific objective. This objective helps the teacher know where he or she is going to take the students. Is what you expect from your students at the end of each lesson. Sometimes you meet the objective, sometimes you don’t. For the objective, you need to seek the population (who are you targeting), the situation (example: after discussing the family tree), the correct action verb, and the percent of those you expect are going to meet the objective. You have to take in consideration, how well you know your students and know how they will work in class.

Another thing that makes the lesson plan important is the initial, developmental and closing activity. Those are the parts that make a class run smoothly. By preparing the class detail by detail, there is no way the class can unravel. Is important to keep track of what you are going

to teach. This was one of my errors when I started my practice teaching. In my first evaluation, I knew what I was going to teach, but didn’t have a proper plan planned. This made my class look inconclusive and messy. I tried to make it perfect, but all I did was to make myself look like I was playing being a teacher and being one in reality.

I learned from my mistakes, and by the end of my practice teaching, my plans become well-constructed. In the beginning it was hard because my skills needed polishing, but I pushed and learned to be always be prepared. The moment I started making plans, my classes became better and smoother. Planning is essential in the art of educating, and every moment we are learning how to perfect this art.
