objective // to design a house that caters to the needs of private collector. collected item type is chosen by student proposal // the residence is designed for a die hard fanatic, expert and teacher of chess and is located beside the river in historic downtown cambridge, ontario. the floor plan is indicative of the intrinsic relationships present between the varying positions that a player can find themselves in regarding the game of chess:; leisure, disciple and professional the ground floor is split into four quadrants that represent each of the aforementioned three positions with the fourth acting as a bridge between the public and private portions of the house.

objective // given a parcel of land, increase density by 1.4x density by building within the empty spaces of existing lots. proposal // the design is driven by the preservation of view to the field below for the original houses of the lot and providing ample natural light for the newly built complexes. the goal was to create a light atmosphere that combats feeling of overcrowding that accompanies an increase in population density. the process began with inspecting the various building types in section to create a modular block that can be repeated along the slope of the site. the resulting block consists of an alternating cascading and block house formation allowing for porforated views through the new complex.

objective // to progrmamatically challenge the every day living formation of the suburban home as defined by the grand domestic revolution and how even though the way we live our lives have changed, the standard victorian house is still the standard proposal // the current refugee system in canada drops troubled individuals and famillies around the country where the transition to north american life can be difficult. this communal housing project encourages the sharing of ones life with another sympathetic family at different stages of recovery. the top floors consist of shared living quarters and center around a communal kitchen and dining/play area where children and parents can bond during their temporary stay. this puts the residents at a point of power over the ground floor which consists of educational facilities open to the public of which the refugees attend in order to adjust their job skills to north american life.

i’ve always wanted to see more of the world, ever since i went back to china for the first time after my birth. it was a great change, the foreign nature, the different perspectives, all of it became apart of me. if i’m to build for the world i feel like i need to see more of it, and i plan to, very soon.
