As new residents move in to Gowanus, in order to prevent the history(water contamination) to be repeated, it is important to teach the community the idea of recycling and reusing. In order to let the occupants gradually adjust into the new life style and view the Gowanus neighborhood in an alternative perspective, the design brings in the Gowanus into the repair clinic itself. Using the terminology of reverberation, ,which emerged from the performance quality of the repaired artifacts, the goal is to encourage communication through interacting within the educational program.

Focusing on the repair of hand drum, the concept model represents the movement of the drum bead verse the hand. In combine with characteristic of the vinyl record and cassette tape, the idea of reverberation is developed as all repair include cycling in their functionality. Based on the concept model, program layout is divide into two layers, with the repair clinic on the bottom(hand movement), and multi on the second floor (drum bead movement).

AIDS is a condition that damages the body’s immune system and causes it to become susceptible to infection and disease. It causes the body to become open to the elements and places the carrier in a fragile position. To represent this fragility we have used the symbolism of a fragile egg where with the slightest pressure it can break and crumble. Through the process of tying a macrame net we emphasize the unity of our society. The hung macrame net embraces the fragile eggs offering the message of support for the HIV/ AIDS community.

The vision of my design is to expand the traditional definition of a teen library, based on the urban context and contemporary teen issues, embedding the teen into the library program. In fact,the idea of embedding is conceptually and physically demonstrated in four aspects of the project: site, user group,programs, and materiality.

B With the installation of and transparency of glass treatments, it allows teenagers to find their group efficiently. The gaze from the outer program is conceptually embedded in the inner program. Each frame, as well is embedded with a designed acoustic treatment. The distinct shape of the bookshelves in the reading room, as well, is shaped to embed each occupant into its boundaries.

The lighting condition of the design is inspired by the functionality of a kaleidoscope. By using daylight as the light source, the glass material serves as the lens, enabling the screen, “wood structure”/“water”, to leave its reflection.

Based on the client’s family dynamic struggle in time managment, the goal of this design is to reconnect and strengthen the family bonds through creating area where they would have to share. The idea to encourage reconnection and strengthen bonds, which emerged as an Interlocking operation. For the dwelling design, the idea of interlocking is presented in 2 parts: programs layout and circulation.
