From the time of Dom Perignon’s immortal line ‘Brothers, come quickly, I am drinking stars!’ in the late 17th century, the ‘accidentally fizzy wine’ of the Champagne region in France has for centuries epitomised the finest in all things vinous, evoking a unique sense of occasion and luxury shared by no other wine. It’s the party-starter par-excellence, the celebration drink de-rigueur and undoubtedly my ‘desert-island-wine’. With all due respect to Dom though, the Champagne I grew up with is Lanson Black Label. As such, it is with a great sense of nostalgia that I’m happy to report that after a long hiatus in the Australian market, Lanson is back in town and back to its best; rich, round and sumptuous, creamy and complex, with that trademark freshness on the finish. We’re also pleased to offer one of the other great value houses of Champagne, Piper Heidseick, alongside one of the benchmarks of Australian sparkling wine, Jansz from Tasmania.
