From the Engage Employee studio, Jo Moffatt, Strategy Director at Energy for Success opens the Virtual Digital Workplace Conference under the overarching title of Enabling More Productive and Engaging Ways of Working in a Hybrid Environment, which will be filled with a whole host of organisations ranging from AstraZeneca to Disneyland Paris, to Heineken to Zoom, describing among other things how they have dealt with the unprecedented times of the pandemic, with the overnight move from working in the office to working at home. Jo has been a volunteer with the Engage for Success movement since its launch. As Strategy Director she sits on the Core Team and co-hosts the weekly Engage for Success radio show. EFS radio draws guests from across the engagement world with interesting stories to share. The Engage for Success agenda is absolutely aligned with Jo’s vision ‘to make workplaces better places to be’. Jo’s ‘day job’ is MD and founder of Woodreed, a specialist ad agency who use the tools, techniques, creativity and insight of the advertising world to engage employees inside organisations. Caroline Pennings is Managing Director International Communications for FedEx. With more than 20 years experience at global corporations across multiple industries, Caroline serves as a trusted advisor to top leadership helping them to navigate reputation, risk, crisis and change. Caroline has held a number of senior level Communications, Marketing and Investor Relations roles, and prior to FedEx worked for Shell.
Like many businesses, Disneyland Paris is currently going through many transformations in terms of product, as well as operating and HR model. Bruno will examine how Europe #1 tourist destination renewing its L&D model and programs to align them to the current context and to prepare for the company’s future. Bruno joined Disneyland Paris in 1991 as part of the Grand Opening team as Project Manager for Resort Development. Since then, he has taken on positions of increasing responsibility in operational or support divisions, as department leader or in project management, including working on the opening of the Walt Disney Studios in Paris in 2002 and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort in 2005. Between 2003 and 2008, he was responsible for creating and driving a team of Project Managers implementing strategic changes within the operational divisions. In 2009, Bruno was promoted to HR Director and since conducted reengineering of various functions including Health & Safety, First Aid, Cast Dining, Cast Housing and Operations Training. Since 2018, Bruno serves as HR Director, Center of Excellence Learning & Development, the department leading all development programs for Disneyland Paris to develop company culture, integration, regulatory and professional skills, as well as leadership skills.

BT Apprenticeships Case Study: Transforming a large apprenticeship programme to digital delivery during Covid Ann Potterton, BT I will explain how BT Group moved the delivery of its apprenticeship programmes (all 70 of them) to digital delivery overnight at the beginning of lockdown 1. I will outline the initial steps we took and what worked well and where we faced challenges. As Tiers came in and Lockdowns #2 and #3 arrived, we hit a different set of problems I believe it is the combined learnings from the whole lockdown cycles across all four nations, that now puts us in a good place to establish what digital apprenticeship delivery looks like post-Covid. I propose to share these with audience and hopefully encourage some debate around digital delivery and apprenticeships. I will cover: • Background to BT and Openreach apprenticeship programmes and me • Establishing a large apprenticeship programme since 2017 reforms • Timeline and key numbers, key focus, challenges, solutions • Strategy, principles and operating model • Career progression after apprenticeships • Wellbeing • Post-covid recovery and digital opportunities and necessities Ann joined BT’s Apprenticeship Team in 2017, having previously represented training providers as the Director a provider network. Prior to that she was CEO of the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) – a body which specialised in helping smaller companies access funding to recruit and train their own telecoms apprentices. Ann is an experienced Learning & Development Consultant with expertise in the vocational sector, leadership and facilitation. She is a Chartered Member of the CIPD, holds a PGCE and a degree in French. BT has delivered apprenticeships as an employer-provider for over 60 years. We deliver a small number of specialist programmes ourselves eg. Openreach’s telecoms engineer programme and we fully outsource over 70 programmes. I am a motivated and energetic professional with an entrepreneurial spirit and “can-do” mentality. With my strong analytical and organizational background in different industries, I have a diverse experience in project management, process development and stakeholder engagement. Having worked for small as well as international companies, I have developed a good set of skills in understanding different business needs as well as being flexible with solutions and approaches. Managing change has been an integral part of my career as most of my roles were focused on bringing innovation to the business. Engaging people in adopting new tools, processes or behaviours requires not only strong communication skills but also determination, empathy and understanding of the complexity for each stakeholder. My natural social skills and ability to put things into perspective as well as my experience in (trade) marketing, sales, finance and procurement supports me in driving change within the area of Knowledge and Training Management, an area that is still emerging at my business unit. Driving collaboration, designing and organizing inspiring trainings, working with people of different backgrounds and cultures, as well as supporting the business in developing their talents, gives me great personal fulfilment and motivates me to continue my personal development in the field.
Naomi Sayers, Sainsbury’s Tech In the fast-paced, ever-changing world of retail technology, against the backdrop of a global pandemic and remote working, how do you supercharge colleague experience? What can engagement teams learn from software development squads? In this session, Naomi Sayers – Senior Colleague Experience Manager for Sainsbury’s Tech, will be sharing the way they’ve pivoted the traditional approach to engagement surveys, using Colleague Voice data to build trust and drive colleague happiness. A career Internal Communicator and ex-Broadcast Journalist, Naomi now leads the Colleague Experience team for Sainsbury’s Tech – the technology division of Sainsbury’s. She and the team work across the Tech division to help improve the experience for 2000 tech colleagues. They’re driving towards the goal of making Sainsbury’s Tech a place people love to work, where diverse and engaged teams make a purposeful contribution. As well as the team Naomi also leads the Colleague Experience Practice – a collaborative group of colleagues all working to the same aims locally. She also chairs the divisional Great Place To Work (colleague involvement) group. This means she and her team have a real handle on how colleagues are feeling, what they’re experiencing, what’s going well and what could be improved. This forms part of their unique approach to measuring engagement, which you’ll hear more about in this session. Outside of work Naomi lives with her husband and many (6) pets in Billericay, Essex. She loves spinning (on a bike), yoga, meditation, The Beatles; eating good food and drinking Malbec. Definitely not simultaneously!

She is responsible for driving all aspects of employee development and engagement by designing experiences that touch every single point of the employee life cycle from post-hire to exit. Once employees join the Zoom community, she takes it from there. Jodi has had several in-house executive leadership positions in both the forprofit and non-profit sectors in organizational, talent, and learning management. Her most recent leadership role was at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as the Head of Talent Acquisition and Organizational Development where she joined to implement a five-year strategic plan focused on enhancing employees’ overall well-being. Jodi’s nimble approach as a talent advisor stems from her time as an executive at The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) and her early career in social work. At CCL, she designed custom programs for Fortune 100 companies to help them build and enhance their leadership pipeline and achieve business outcomes. Prior to this work, she tackled the behavioral aspects of leadership with the clinical skills she honed at a boutique Employee Assistance firm and New York’s famous, Bellevue Hospital’s Psychiatric Emergency Room and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. She lives in New York City with her husband and has two sons, one of which is in his final year at Penn and the other a senior in high school. She also lives with her chocolate brown Labrador, Bosco, who is a lover of sticks and is useless when it comes to proofreading her work.

In this ‘new normal’ environment much has been said about the benefits, joys and the upside of working from home. Work-life balance has become a balancing act between your household and your work (where your sons, daughters, spouses, partners, dogs, cats, plants, parents, guitars and bicycles have all become a part of this fine balance).
An accomplished speaker, writer, and trainer with a unique view on employee engagement and internal communications. Having spent equal parts of her career in consumer, then employee communications, Charlotte brings the rigour of the ad industry into internal communications. She's talked at leadership summits and delivers inhouse session for her clients' teams. A regular writer of industry thoughtleader pieces and blogger. Published in industry magazines and on the website of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising.
In this presentation Sneh will share how some critical signs of disengagement can be missed as a result of the ‘new normal’ and what some of the tell-tale signs are when something is ‘rotten in the state of Denmark’.

Currently Sneh works as a People Partner for three different plants at Rolls-Royce, Derby and Bristol sites. Whilst Bristol is a pre-production plant focussed on innovation, the Derby plants are the flagship plants for the Turbines business. Her role is focussed on implementing the people strategy and adapting it to reflect the needs of the local teams. Prior to this, having completed her Level 7 in Employment Law, she joined Jaguar Land Rover as an HR Consultant managing a high volume of complex cases. At Science and Technology Facilities Council she worked in a ‘best practices’ environment. Prior to that she worked for an international Media College, based out of Oxford. Sneh has been involved in policy and practices development in her various roles. In her zig-zag career she has also helped establish international schools for various international business houses and has written English text books for children, published by Cambridge University Press.
CIPD Case Study: Evolution of the Digital Workplace Advances in technology coupled with the falling prices of mobile devices has enabled the digital workplace to become possible for an increasing number of employees over the last decade. For many job roles, we no longer need to be in the same place to collaborate, communicate and innovate. COVID-19 has highlighted this at scale, proving that it’s possible for huge numbers of employees to work remotely and still be productive. The digital workplace is evolving outside the office too, including for delivery drivers, warehouse staff and healthcare professionals. The quest for optimising employee performance has not changed; what has changed is the ways in which organisations engage their employees to achieve this goal. Technology has made it possible to deliver a customised employee experience, and make it easier to monitor whether various organisational initiatives are effective. Alongside these opportunities come ethical considerations such as privacy. Ultimately, the challenge for people professionals is to find ways for employees and technology to work harmoniously towards common organisational goals.

Navid Nazemian, Vodafone Did you know that between 30-50% of all executive transitions fail during the first 18-24 months? Typically, organisations work extremely hard to identify and hire new executive talent…but then rely on hope when it comes to making their new investment successful. The cost of replacing an executive can be anywhere between 2.5 to 10 times their salary. Given the high stakes, it is surprising how little good guidance is available to new executives on how to transition more effectively and efficiently into a new leadership role. The global pandemic has forced us all to participate in the largest ‘work from home’ experiment in history. The experiences and lessons learnt have changed the way Deutsche Bank is currently working and how employees will work in the future. This new perspective has made very clear that the environment in which we operate is constantly changing and a ‘one size fits all’ approach is not sustainable. Therefore, it is essential to apply an ‘Agile Mind-Set’ to the Digital Workplace in order to ensure we are able to adapt to the evolving requirements.
Avon Cosmetics was stuck in the last century, until the pandemic and national lockdown forced the acceleration of a digital agenda that was initially met with much resistance. Suddenly sales representatives were unable to go door-to-door with paper brochures making the adoption of a digital brochure essential, and embracing e-Commerce a do-or-die decision. And we’ll look inwardly at the culture within head office, which overnight embraced the flexible working approach we’d been trying as an HR team to embed for years.

A true change agent, she has an excellent ability to navigate ambiguous and/or tumultuous business environments, making sense out of chaos, and utilizing a strong relationship-centric mindset to foster continued engagement & motivation. Nadia is a natural problem-solver, seeking efficiency and opportunities to streamline operating models to enable business improvements and develop stronger leaders. She holds a certificate from SHRM in HR management and degrees from both The State University of New York and Saint John’s University.
Martha is the Head of Change for Non-Financial Risk Management at Deutsche Bank, where she also performs as an agile trainer and coach. Martha has a Management Consulting background with a client portfolio that includes most Big UK Banks. She is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and has completed other certifications in risk, product and project management. Martha’s experiences include leading cross-functional international change initiatives, facilitating the definition of functions’ Change Book of Work and designing and optimising processes, indicators, governance and target operating models. Antonio is globally responsible for designing Deutsche Bank’s office space to meet the employees’ current expectations and future requirements. His area of responsibility stretches from office design, digitalization, culture and change management. Antonio’s workplace is the world around him. He gets energy from working in various environments and with different people. To shape the Future of Work for the bank, he thinks outside of the box and explores the latest trends and technologies to help him develop new approaches and new ideas. Antonio’s key skills include facility management, project management and Business partnering.
