The fitness center, located in the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center, gives Centenary students and student-athletes a safe workout environment where they can improve their agility, speed, flexibility, strength and conditioning. Using the fitness center gives each athlete a chance to improve their overall fitness, therefore making them more competitive in their sport of choice. In 2006, the fitness center was expanded to include a separate cardio room as well as the weight machine and free weight areas. The renovation also brought in brand new state-of-the-art strength and fitness equipment that should fill all our student-athlete’s seasonal fitness needs.

In 2012 Klank concluded his eighth season as head coach of the Centenary men’s lacrosse program. The 2012 squad found themselves in the CSAC Tournament for the first time since 2009 as they took home the fourth and final seed in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the Cyclones had to take on the #6 ranked team in the nation Cabrini Cavaliers where they lost 18-3 to end their 2012 run. The Cyclones finished the season at 6-9 overall, including a 4-3 conference mark.
Matt Klank begins his 10th season as head men’s lacrosse coach at Centenary College in 2014. The 2013 season as head coach of the Centenary men’s lacrosse program was by far his and the program’s most successful season during his tenure. The 2013 Cyclones finished the season with a 14-4 overall record and 4-2 record in the CSAC. Following a tremendous regular season, the Cyclones defeated Gwynedd-Mercy in the semi-finals of the CSAC tournament to advance to the CSAC championship for the first time in program history. Despite falling in the championship game, the 14 victories were easily the most in the program’s history and also marked the first 10-win season of Klanks career. In addition to their performance during the regular season and in the CSAC, the Cyclones were then selected to participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason tournament as well. In the ECAC tournament the Cyclones picked up a victory over SUNY – Canton in the quarterfinals to keep their season alive. However, a loss in the semifinals would end their season but not before the best statistical season in school history. For their efforts all season, seven members of the team received All-Conference recognition from the CSAC. Seniors Sean Lowe and Cameron Gunn received First Team honors, while freshman Joey DeBiasse, sophomore Patrick Johnston and seniors Robert Nuzzolese and Conor Nolan each received Second Team honors. Rounding out the selections was defenseman Brock Mininger who received Honorable Mention honors for his play. In addition to his second team honors, DeBiasse was also named the CSAC Rookie of the Year in 2013. The 2013 season also saw a number of milestones reached and records broken by several members of the team. Attackmen Cameron Gunn recorder his 100th career point in a victory over Gwynedd-Mercy on March 23rd… midfielder Conor Nolan recorded his 100th career assist on March 10th vs. St. Joseph’s College of Maine, recorded his 200th career point on March 30th at DeSales, recorded his 100th career goal on April 20th vs. Arcadia and became Centenary’s all-time leader in assists on May 11th vs. Forstburg State…Robert Nuzzolese scored his 100th career goal on March 16th vs. PSU – Abginton…Patrick Johnston set the single-season faceoff win record.
2014 Men’s Lacrosse Media Guide
The Cyclones offense was led by Cameron Gunn who was named First Team All-Conference after finishing the season ranked 12th in the nation in points per game at 4.67 while tying a program single-game record of points with 13 against Rosemont on April 21st. Gunn was helped out by his offensive counterpart Conor Nolan who was named Honorable Mention All-Conference after he finished the season ranked 13th in the nation in assists per game with 2.2. Nolan also picked up 33 assists on the season, enough to put him in second place All-Time with 86 career assists, only 40 behind the leader Reese Baillie. None of the Cyclones wins this season could have been possible however if it wasn’t for the tremendous performance by Centenary’s Second Team All-Conference goalie, Kyle McVay. The senior goalie finished the season ranked 11th in the nation in save percentage with a .633, setting a program single-season record above his .627 from last season. McVay also set the single-season record for goals against average this season, finishing the year with an 8.12. The Cyclones had six All-Conference honors, including one First-Team, two Second-Team, and three Honorable Mention honorees. In 2011, the team went 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). Despite numerous injuries to key players, the Cyclones went toe-to-toe with each of their CSAC opponents, as four of their conference losses were by seven goals or fewer. Sophomores Conor Nolan and Robert Nuzzolese were each named Second Team All-CSAC Midfield and Attack, respectively. Junior goalie Kyle McVay and sophomore defender Sean Lowe received Honorable Mention accolades. McVay had a career season, posting career-highs in minutes (583:30), saves (141), save percentage (.627) and goals against average (8.64). He set Centenary single-season records in GAA and save percentage and ranked 13th in save percentage, 27th in saves per game and 66th in goals against average in the final national statistics.

He led CSAC in saves per game and ranked third in save percentage and ninth in goals against average. Senior Joe Swantkoski finished his career with the fourth-highest goals total in program history after leading the squad in scores (36) and points (38), both career-highs. The 2010 squad finished 6-8, including 1-5 in the CSAC. Three of the Cyclones’ five conference losses were by two goals or fewer. Centenary used only two seniors, co-captains Jason Rieg and Eddie Montalvo, but the young players came through as Nolan (30 goals, team-high 40 assists, team-high 70 points), Nuzzolese (25 goals, seven assists) and Lowe (62 groundballs, team-high 30 caused turnovers) all played above their years. Rieg and Nolan earned First Team All-CSAC status, while Montalvo took home Second Team honors and Lowe received Honorable Mention accolades. As a team, Centenary was given the CSAC Sportsmanship Award. Rieg also received United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2010 Scholar All-American honors, one of just 70 Division I, II and III student-athletes to earn the award. The 2009 campaign was one of Klank’s best coaching jobs, as he guided an injury-plagued team, with only 16 student-athletes on the roster, to a 6-9 record, including a 4-2 mark in the CSAC. The Cyclones finished the season as the third-seed in the conference tournament, falling at Marywood in the first round.
Following a four-year career with the Centenary men’s lacrosse team, Sean Lowe starts his first season as an assistant coach in 2013. Lowe was a two-time All-CSAC defender for the Cyclones from 2010-13 and helped the team earn a spot in the semifinal round of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament during his senior campaign. During his 53-game career with the Cyclones, Lowe collected 201 ground balls, which ranks as the sixth-highest total in school history. Lowe graduated from Centenary in 2013 with a degree in sport management. As an undergraduate at the College, Lowe served as the vice president on the Counsel of Student Athletes and volunteered with numerous charitable organizations in the area, including the Care for Clare Foundation, the Jacob’s Smile Foundation and the Post House.
In 2008 the Cyclones finished the year as the third-seed in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) with a 5-3 mark, including three straight victories to close out the season, before falling in the conference semi-finals. Klank came to Centenary in 2005, following four seasons at Drew University as its assistant coach and offensive coordinator. Prior to joining Drew’s staff, Klank was an assistant at Villanova University (1998-2000) as well as at Montclair State University following his graduation in 1997. Klank has also had some experience at the high school level, as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Montclair Kimberly Academy from 1995-97. Klank began his collegiate playing career at Drexel University in 1992. His freshman season he was the program’s top scorer. After another year with the Dragons, he transferred to Montclair State for his final two years of eligibility. He received such honors as the ECAC Most Valuable Player and All-New Jersey First-Team in 1994. Klank also led the Red Hawks in scoring in his two years at MSU. A 1997 graduate of Montclair State, Klank earned his bachelor’s degree in commercial recreation and tourism. He currently lives in North Caldwell, N.J., with his wife Marisel and their children Ashley Elizabeth and Justin.

Cameron Gunn begins his first year as men’s lacrosse student assistant at Centenary College in 2014 after completing a two-year, standout career for the Cyclones. A two-time Colonial States Athletic Conference First Team honoree, Gunn tallied 88 goals and 72 assists for 160 points during his 32-game career. He led Centenary in scoring during both seasons with the team, including tallying 90 points in 2013, the second-highest total in single-season school history. Prior to arriving at Centenary, Gunn was a member of the lacrosse team at Broome Community College in Binghamton, N.Y., for two years.

2014 Season Preview Coming off one of the top seasons in school history, the Centenary College men’s lacrosse team has its sights set on capturing its first-ever Colonial States Athletic Conference title in 2014. The Cyclones set a program record with 14 victories last season and made an appearance in the CSAC Tournament championship game for the first time in history under the direction of 10thyear Head Coach Matt Klank. Centenary boasted an 11-1 home record and featured the league’s second-stingiest defense, allowing just 9.79 goals per game. The Cyclone defensive unit remains mostly intact from a year ago and will be anchored by a trio of juniors. Brock Mininger (Hatoboro, Pa./HatboroHorsham) is Centenary’s most experienced defender, having appeared in 32 career games. An honorable mention All-CSAC selection, Mininger contributed 35 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. Nick Perkalis (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) appeared in 16 games during his first season at Centenary, scooping up 45 ground balls, while Kyle Peters (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) has made 19 starts during two years with the team. Fellow junior David Cram (Whitinsville, Mass./Northbridge) is also expected to battle for playing time on the Cyclones’ back line. Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) will look to build on a standout rookie season after setting a single-season school record with 11 victories. Switzer made 122 saves and posted a 9.19 goals-against aver-

age, the second-lowest mark among CSAC goalies, during 17 appearances (14 starts). Junior Grant Nice (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) will push Switzer for playing time between the pipes. Nice has compiled 93 stops during 18 career games. While the defensive unit returns a number of veterans, the Cyclone offense will undergo a major overhaul in 2014. The team’s top-five scorers have departed, leaving junior midfielder Joshua Caven (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) at Centenary’s top offensive threat. Caven recorded 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points, while finishing third on the team with 72 ground balls. Also a CSAC All-Academic Team honoree, Caven is also to likely be the Cyclones’ top faceoff specialist after winning 63 percent of his draws last season. Joining Caven in the midfield will be senior Steve Orsini (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and juniors Anthony LaManna (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and Russell Perkalis (Califon, N.J./Voorhees). Orsini will look to bounce back from an injury-plagued junior campaign when he played in just seven games, netting a pair of goals. He had appeared in 28 consecutive contests during his first two years with the team. LaManna will be looked upon to increase his production in 2014, while Perkalis is reunited with brother

Centenary’s attack unit will be comprised of three sophomores and a pair of freshmen, one of the youngest groups in Division III. Trevor Krupinski (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) and Anthony Biango (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Township) will both need to increase their production following solid rookie campaigns, while Conor Martin (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) will also likely see an expanded role after scoring four goals in four games last season. After finishing second in the CSAC in 2013 and making its first appearance in the ECAC Tournament since 2003, Centenary was picked to again place second in the league’s preseason coaches’ poll. The Cyclones open the regular season at Alvernia on Wednesday (4:00 pm) and begin league play with a road trip to Immaculata on April 2.
