Centenary College Council for Student – Athletes By-Laws What CSA is about: CSA is a committee of student-athletes picked by their respective coaches to represent their teams in dealing with issues of concern to student-athletes. Their primary function is discussion and action. CSA strives to increase visibility of council initiatives and make a positive impact on issues. We try to implement improvements in the Athletic Department and encourage unity between sports, faculty, and administration.

Article I Purpose: A. CSA is a committee of student-athletes who discuss issues related to the Athletic Department and its teams. B. Help develop leadership, tolerance, diversity, and intellectual growth within its members. C. Support a positive camaraderie amongst student-athletes, coaches, staff, local community, and faculty. D. Assist student-athletes in becoming better role models through programs that encourage teamwork and unity. E. To develop a series of orientation events that will help new student-athletes throughout their first academic year. F. Strive to improve unity within Centenary College’s campus and the surrounding community. G. Serve as a medium for all student-athletes to share suggestions to improve the college and athletic department. H. Keep all student-athletes aware of conference and NCAA legislation and be an avenue to hear suggestions. 1


Article II Membership: A. Members of Centenary College CSA must be a full-time active student-athlete posted on team rosters. B. Each team will be represented by two players selected by the team’s coach and CSA Advisor for the academic year. All representatives will have one vote and only CSA members have voting rights. (Other topics may be brought up by non-CSA students.) C. CSA is an equal opportunity organization. D. Member attendance is mandatory at all meetings. If a representative cannot make a meeting they must notify a CSA officer or advisor. Members should try to find a substitute if they cannot make a meeting. E. If a team fails to provide a voting member that team loses their voting rights for that meeting. F. If a team has an official contest conflicting with CSA meetings they are excused from that meeting and do not lose voting rights for that meeting. G. Representatives may vote by proxy through the CSA Advisor. H. Any violation of school policy can be grounds for dismissal as determined by Head Coach and CSA Advisor. I. CSA representatives can represent only one team.

Article III Structure and responsibilities: A. CSA Executive Committee a. President: sets agendas for meetings, runs meetings, and is our representative to the NCAA and the Conference. b. Vice President: duties include running meetings when President is not present and leading up-coming events for CSA. Centenary representative to the PAAC. c. Recording Secretary: duties consist of alerting members of meetings, take precise minutes of each meeting and sending out accurate minutes to other officials including CSA Advisor. Take attendance and keeps track of votes. d. Treasurer: supervise budget. Keep track of what is spent and what is brought in through various programs. 2


B. Election for CSA officials will be once a year. Every member gets one vote. Elections will be held in April for officials to take office in the following academic year.

Article IV Meetings: CSA Meetings will be twice a month, starting no later than the third week of the first semester. A. Meetings will include team news, Athletic Department news, and new issues. New issues can be heard and brought up by student-athlete members and non-members of CSA. B. Issues needing votes will be passed with a majority vote. C. Amending by-laws needs a mere majority vote of CSA. D. Spending may only be approved by CSA Advisor, President, and/or Treasurer. E. Meetings may be called by CSA Advisor and/or President.
