Centenary College Mission Statement Centenary College is a community of learners distinguished by a diverse student body, a dedicated faculty and staff, and stimulating educational opportunities. Centenary College is committed to a quality liberal arts and career studies education with a substantial international dimension to engage students in learning and prepare them for satisfying careers, successful lives, community service and lifelong intellectual pursuits.
As coaches, we serve as both educators and leaders. Centenary’s goal is to maximize the human potential of our student-athletes. Our holistic approach stresses the fundamentals of the games we play as well as the values of responsibility, discipline, and commitment. We know that these principles will translate into victories, but more importantly, they will develop young people with character. Those who compete and graduate become true champions, for they will understand what it means to be committed to excellence.

Our coaches, administrators and staff members all take an active role in monitoring and insuring our compliance with all NCAA, conference and College regulations. Centenary sponsors 13 men’s and women’s teams at the Division III level and our athletic department continues to grow. We remain committed to developing our athletic department into one of the best small-college programs in the country. With the help of our dedicated coaches, staff and student-athletes we can see that dream come to reality. As a student-athlete, we will ask you to represent the College’s intercollegiate athletics program both on and off the field with integrity, professionalism and competitiveness. Athletic Training and Conditioning The sports medicine program at Centenary College provides students with an opportunity to participate in intercollegiate athletics in the safest and healthiest way possible. A well-rounded program for student-athletes directed toward the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries is enhanced by team physician Dr. Mike Kelly and orthopedic surgeons Dr. Louis Rizio and Dr. Robert A Defalco. The athletic training staff includes Head Athletic Trainer Dana Baffuto, Associate Athletic Trainer Kevin Davies and Assistant Athletic Trainer Eddie Giroux. The fitness center, located in the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center, gives Centenary students and student-athletes a safe workout environment where they can improve their agility, speed, flexibility, strength and conditioning. Using the fitness center gives each athlete a chance to improve their overall fitness, therefore making them more competitive in their sport of choice. In 2006, the fitness center was expanded to include a separate cardio room as well as the weight machine and free weight areas. The renovation also brought in brand new state-of-the-art strength and fitness equipment that should fill all our student-athlete’s seasonal fitness needs.

assistant coach for the softball team. Beyond her collegiate coaching, Weidensaul also served as the director of the Academic Enrichment Camp, PHEAA-CAPS Program, Hispanic Enrichment Camp, Albright Women’s Basketball Team Camp, and as an athletic event manager for Albright College.
Rachel Weidensaul enters her second season as head women’s basketball coach at Centenary College in 2013-14. During her first season at the helm, the Cyclones posted an 8-17 record and now owns a career record of 10-19. Facing a tough schedule that included NCAA Division I NJIT, Weidensaul earned her first win as Centenary head coach when the Cyclones took down New Jersey City University 52-46 on December 3rd. As Centenary broke into the heart of CSAC play, Weidensaul guided the Cyclones to three consecutive road victories against conference opponents Baptist Bible College, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and Cedar Crest College. CC completed the year in eighth place in the league standings with six conference victories. Prior to taking over at Centenary, Weidensaul served as an assistant coach at Albright College from 2008-12. She briefly took over as the interim head coach for four games while Head Coach Janice Luck was on maternity leave and led the Lions to a 2-2 record. During her time at Albright, Weidensaul also served as an
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Weidensaul spent four years as a multi-sport athlete at Kutztown University, graduating with a B.A. in business administration and marketing in 2008 and an M.B.A in 2010. During her time as a student-athlete, Weidensaul was as a four-year scholarship starter for the Golden Bears, earning All-PSAC Second Team honors during her senior year after leading her team in scoring with an average 9.9 points per game, a PSAC Player of the Week award, and helped the 2005-06 team advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Final Four. In addition to basketball, Weidensaul was also a four-year member of the softball team at Kutztown, earning All-PSAC accolades as a starting pitcher. She posted a 43-22 career record, including eight shutouts.
Season Preview After missing the postseason for the second consecutive season, the Centenary College women’s basketball team looks to make a move back to the top of the Colonial States Athletic Conference in 2013-14. The 2013-14 season will be the first for Donnie Iudica at Centenary College. Iudica is a 2007 Centenary graduate with a degree in biology. He earned his master’s degree from Long Island University-Brooklyn in 2011. Prior to his undergraduate time at Centenary, Iudica served as an officer in the United States Navy for four years. Most recently, Iudica spent two years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Blue Crush AAU women’s basketball team. With Blue Crush, Iudica’s responsibilities included scouting prospective players, breaking down game film and creating daily practice plans. Iudica also has collegiate soccer coaching experience at Bloomfield College and Sussex County Community College.
The Cyclones struggled in the beginning of last season, but began to hit their stride during conference play, something that second-year Head Coach Rachel Weidensaul hopes will carry over into the new campaign. “The players had to adjust to a new system and coaching staff, but we saw everything begin to come together at the end of the season. Having a year of experience will be key to our success during the upcoming season,” said Weidensaul, a former two-sport standout in basketball and softball at Kutztown University. Weidensaul returns a veteran group that includes five players who appeared in at least 22 games last season. Senior guards Melissa Kukoda (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood), Nicole Collins (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) and Klarissa Perry (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) each competed in all 25 contests and are the team’s leading returning scorers. Kukoda poured in 9.0 points per game, reaching double figures 13 times, and connected on a team-high 23 three-pointers. Collins added 7.3 ppg during her first year with the Cyclones, while Perry tallied 7.1 points per game and pulled in a team-best 6.5 rebounds per outing.

that step,” said Weidensaul. “Having three experienced guards on the floor will help them to maintain an even keel.”
“As captains, our three seniors must set the tone for this team on and off the court. We expect them to maintain their composure no matter the situation, especially Nicole Collins, who serves as the floor general at the point guard spot,” added Weidensaul.
It is that combination of experience and youth that Centenary will count on to be successful during the upcoming year. After being selected eighth in the 12-team CSAC during the preseason, the Cyclones are aiming to prove their doubters wrong.
Centenary will have plenty of depth at guard as junior Kim Osieja (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) and sophomore Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J./WoodRidge) also return after appearing in nearly every game in reserve roles a season ago. A pair of freshmen are expected to gain the starting nod at the forward positions for the Cyclones. Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) was a two-time, all-conference selection during her scholastic career, while Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J./Belvidere) was a First Team All-Skyline Conference honoree at nearby Belvidere High School. Classmate Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J./ Lenape Valley) should also battle for playing time in the front court. “There is a big difference in the level of competition between high school and college, but I believe our forwards are ready to take
