Education for the Future The world has changed. Communication is evolving every day. CNM, Center for New Media, is a convergence program consisting of Countryside始s UPC TV, the Paw Print Newspaper and online at cnmcountryside.com.

What is UPC? UPC TV (Upper Pinellas County Television) began in 1987, and has since grown to produce an award winning daily news show. Special projects have included a nationally broadcast Devil Rays game, commercial videos, and numerous competition pieces. the most involved students have the opportunity to participate in field trips to major competitions and conventions around the nation. the experience UPC offers is as good as-if not better than many college programs. Countryside also offers strong academic programs with many advanced placement options, and has a history of high college placement scores.

Cutting-Edge Technology Students in UPC get handson experience with industrystandard equipment and programs. Currently we have twenty top-of- the-line Final Cut Pro systems, a Final Cut Server, and SDHD tapeless HD cameras. We also have a state-of-the-art digital control room and studio. Students develop graphic design skills and learn to produce 2d and 3d animation using the Adobe Suite which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.

Awards Received UPC TV is one of the most award- winning programs in the nation with over 500 awards. We have been awarded best in the nation, best in the southeast U.S., and best in Florida. We have also won several 1st place awards in international competition. UPC is recognized by the major journalism associations and student TV production networks as one of the very best.

Field Trips Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah - meet and learn from the writers, directors, producers and stars of dozens of new movies and attend their premiers! Southern Interscholastic Press Association in Columbia, South Carolina - attend journalism workshops, learn from professionals in the business and compete with numerous schools from across the Southeastern US. National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas, Nevada - the elite conference of the professional industry, students network and learn of the latest industry trends.


When am I gonna use this? Countryside High Schoolʼs television production program provides students with the skills they need for a strong future in todayʼs technology driven world. Graduates have been employed by every TV station in the Tampa Bay Area, the 13th largest market in the United States, plus CNN, ESPN, Fox, The Today Show, PAX, CTN, MTV, and local stations throughout the country. At one point five former students worked at the #1 station in Orlando in editing and engineering. Former students run the JumboTron screen for most pro sports teams in Tampa Bay, including the Bucs and Lightning. Several are actors, one is a senior producer for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and one is even a member of the Blue Man Group.

Your Future Countryside is one of only three centers funded by the county for career oriented television production. The T.V. Production program is ideal for students looking to meet the performing arts credit requirements. Those in advanced level classes T.V. III and up can earn honors credit for the course. Graduates work as anchors, reporters, producers, directors, editors, engineers and just about everything else in the television/ entertainment industry. However, a student doesnʼt have to want a career in TV Production to take this class. The skills they learn will help make them a better attorney, sales manager, teacher, or better at just about any career they choose.
