president’s report Winter is almost over, so it is time to think about all of the spring and summer sports and programs that we have to offer at your Central Corydon Community Centre. I wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update on the status of the amalgamation of Crescentwood, Sir John Franklin and River Heights that went into effect April of 2011. Since last spring we have been working very hard on a number of fronts. Hopefully you will have participated in one of the many expanded programs that we have been able to offer as a result of combining all the services of the three sites. We are striving to make sure that we offer more choice at more times throughout the week to better serve your needs. It is also worth repeating that as a result of this amalgamation we will NOT be closing any of the three sites. In fact, over much of 2011 we worked on a project to do a thorough needs analysis of the area. We conducted many meetings with all of the key user groups and numerous community leaders to get a good sense of what we were doing right, but also to determine gaps in programming and areas we need to improve on. As a result of this needs assessment we have
started a process to look at what each of our three sites will require in way of facility improvements to meet these growing and changing needs. It is our intent that in the near future we will have some plans to share with you to show what these facilities enhancements might look like. Issues like accessibility, more programmable space, improved fields and fixing up our River Heights arena are all key priorities we are focused on. The Annual General Meeting is coming up on May 30th at 7:00 pm (River Heights Site). I would like to extend an invitation to you to come out and learn more about the work that has been done and of course, what lies ahead. As always, we are looking for help at the committee level, so please call Jim Carson at 488-7000 if you have an area of interest that you feel you could help us with. Best Regards,
Pat O’Connor President
volunteer opportunities Central Corydon Community Centre recognizes the vital role that volunteers play in our community and welcomes and encourages all volunteer participation at our three sites. We view our volunteers as an integral part of “the team” and are committed to providing the necessary framework for a mutually beneficial relationship. Volunteers are the backbone of C4 - we couldn’t do it without you!!
scholarship fund
donations
Central Corydon Community Centre has started to raise funds annually in our community through our "Connection Campaign." These funds will then provide financial assistance for sports, programs and camp scholarships and subsidies for those who need assistance. Funds raised through the "Connection Campaign" allow more community members needing financial support to access C4 programs.
The Central Corydon Community Centre (comprised of Crescentwood, River Heights, and Sir John Franklin Community Centres) has been part of the community for over 60 years. The Centre is partially funded by the City of Winnipeg. However, each year the Centre must rely on fundraising and donations in order to continue to meet the needs of our community.
Contact our main office if you'd like to learn more about the impact of the Connection Campaign on your community.
Support can take several forms, such as the following:
If you are interested in making a donation to Central Corydon Community Centre please contact Jim Carson, General Manager, and he will help make arrangements for this gift. The Community Centre will also accept gifts on behalf of a loved one and of course as part of your own personal estate plan. Estate gifts, which can be of any amount, are received after a donor's lifetime.
BEQUESTS, where Central Corydon Community Centre is the beneficiary in your Will; LIFE INSURANCE, where Central Corydon Community Centre is the beneficiary of a current policy or new policy purchased with Central Corydon Community Centre named as owner and beneficiary. PUBLICLY TRADED SECURITIES, with a donation of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and segregated funds (as part of an estate or gifted during a person's lifetime). If you would like more information about planned giving opportunities, please call 488-7000.

refunds
late registrations
Full refunds will be issued when a program is cancelled. A $15.00 administration fee applies to all refund requests other than program cancellation. Withdrawl from a program will be pro-rated and the issuing of a refund will be based on individual request specifics. For sessions of eight weeks or more, no refund will be given after the third week of classes. For sessions of less than eight weeks or conducted on a class-to-class basis, no refund will be given after the start of classes.
A late fee of $20.00 per registration will be charged effective March 11th. This is necessary due to the additional administration which occurs when registration is late. In some instances, teams have been formed, league fees paid and uniforms ordered. Our philosophy is such that anyone who wants to participate should be accommodated, but it must be recognized that there are extra costs incurred with late registrations and is not always possible.
Please register before the deadline to avoid late fees!!!!
program information Questions regarding programs should be directed to the Manager of Program Services, Abbie Bajon at 452-9844 or the Program Coordinator Allison Pierce at 489-9537. Centre Staff will try to provide assistance with questions or concerns you have, so don't hesitate to call.
Anyone living outside the official Central Corydon service area must register at their own community centre when sport league rules so dictate. When the sport or sport age group is not available at the home centre, written permission to transfer is required. This includes house league sports.

sports Welcome Central Corydon Sports Participants, Parents, Fans and Spectators, Please note the below policies that blanket all sports programs at C4:
Sport Team Formations All teams are formed based on the number of registered players - if numbers warrant, 2 or 3 teams may be formed in one age group in certain sports. If teams are playing in the same division they will be as equally balanced as possible. If numbers are such that there are too many to be placed on one team but not enough for an additional team to be formed, then players will have to be transferred to the next community centre needing players. The method used to decide which players are to be transferred is: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Late Registrations Volunteers to transfer Players from outside Central Corydon catchment Lottery Any player registering late has no guarantee of a position on a Central Corydon CC Team.

baseball Baseball (hardball) is for boys and girls ages 5-18. The baseball season runs from the beginning of May through June with games usually scheduled during weekday evenings. We offer developmental teams for children and youth who have not played before as well as more competitive teams for those who have. Baseball teams are travelling teams. Usually a team plays the same number of home and away games. Because of player numbers, some players may be asked to play for teams from other community centres. The playoff format has not yet been determined, but other than playoff teams, everyone finishes by the end of June. Category

Team Selection Player tryouts/evaluations and team selections for Mosquito, Peewee, Bantam and Midget will take place as early in April as weather permits. Independent evaluators will be used. Teams will be formed and team practices will start in late April or early May. You will be contacted by a volunteer after registration with a specific time, date and location of your tryout/evaluation time.
Pre-Season Clinics Details on the schedule of the Winnipeg South Minor Baseball Association clinics have not been finalized. In the past they occurred near the end of March. Please contact the centre for more details.
Rally Cap/Rookie
Umpires Older players (13+) may want to consider umpiring. It's fun and the pay is great! Please contact the office for details of upcoming clinics.
AAA Baseball Any player wishing to play for the Winnipeg South Chiefs must register at C4 before they will be allowed to attend tryouts. Details on tryouts can be found at www.ballcharts.com/wschiefs.
Equipment Players are required to provide their own gloves, batting helmets and baseball pants. Bats will be provided for all age groups except Midget. Midget players are encouraged to purchase their own wooden bats this year.
Late Registrations We try to have 12 -14 players per team and registration will be cut off at that point. Late registrations will not be accepted if there are not enough coaches. Late registrations, if accepted, will be subject to a $20 Late Fee over and above the registration fee.
Volunteer Opportunities As coaches and volunteers are needed for all teams, there will be a sign-up sheet at registration. Most teams will need a scorekeeper, pitch counter, manager, first aid person, equipment manager, someone to install the bases before each game, coaches, and if possible, someone who can umpire if the scheduled umpire cannot make it. All of these positions are volunteer positions. If we do not have volunteers to help out, the kids don't play. Please keep in mind that we need volunteers when you register. Knowledge of baseball is not a pre-requisite to volunteering. All coaches are required to complete the Respect in Sport training from Sport Manitoba. It is free and on-line.
Baseball Committee: Marna Ramsey John Young
baseball@centralcorydoncc.com
Both of these programs are tons of fun for the kids. They focus on learning the game in a non-competitive environment. If you have any questions about the programs, please contact the centre. Rally Cap is a parent run program so several volunteers are required.

circuit training boot camp
In the 1990's research on strength training for older adults was explored. Experts now recommend that older adults do strength training to maintain their strength, muscle mass and balance. Inactive adults have increased risk of disability, falls and diseases such as diabetes. Find out the benefits by joining this program that will help make you stronger using our exercise equipment and free weights. There are a few reasons that prevent older adults from taking part in strength training so all participants are requested to meet with their family physician to evaluate their readiness for this activity.
Bring your friends and enjoy military influenced training in a fun, high energy setting. Using the principle of set time training, this class will tone, strengthen and condition every muscle in your body. Included in this class will be individual, partner and group stations utilizing exercise balls, weights, step benches and more!

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN Many of our community members have asked for progress updates on the facilities improvements that we have discussed over the past several months. You will recall that at our community meetings and at our first Annual General Meeting we shared some concept drawings for what we feel needs to be done at each of our sites. These concept drawings are intended to show that we have been working hard to understand what physical changes need to be made at our sites in order to accommodate what our community needs are. Any changes to the actual facilities or fields will be as a direct result of what we have identified as required in order to handle the new programming that you, our community, have told us we need to offer. We will be working with our professional advisors to help us identify the costs for these changes and once we have this confirmed, we will be holding meetings to share this work with you. It is anticipated that we will have great support for this development work from the various levels of government, however, we also realize we will need to be asking for financial support from those in our community that are able to help. At this point if you have experience in working on a major fundraising or capital campaign, we would like to hear from you. We are in the very early stages of beginning to understand what we will need to do, and are looking for your expertise to help us with this process. We are very optimistic that we will have great success when we do go out to the community for financial support, in that we have done a great deal of homework to truly understand our community needs and we know with a well thought out plan we will get the level of community engagement we need in a fundraising plan.
