The Central Corydon Community Centre (C4) is accepting submissions from community members residing in the catchment area regarding what should be our Centre’s new team name/logo, which over time will replace the existing Cardinals, Explorers and Grizzlies. The contest is open to all ages residing within the catchment area. People who have an idea to submit, should send it to the attention of Abbie Bajon, C4 Program Manager at 1170 Corydon Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3M 0Z1or by email at programservices@centralcorydoncc.com by no later than December 1, 2011. Submissions should include a written statement of why the new name/team logo should be what is being suggested, along with your name, mailing address and contact information. If mailing submissions, please include your name and contact information in a separate enclosed envelope. Submissions received will be reviewed by the C4 Communications Committee for eventual consideration by the Board. The successful name/logo will be revealed at an upcoming public event in 2012. “As the board for the Central Corydon Community Centre, we felt that not only is it important that we move forward with a new team identity, but that the input of the community is very important in such a significant process,” said Pat O’Connor, President, “We look forward to reviewing the submissions and want to ensure we emerge with a logo our community can be truly proud of”. Earlier this year, the Crescentwood, River Heights, and Sir John Franklin Community Centres amalgamated into the Central Corydon Community Centre to increase cooperation, efficiencies and enhance services to the community. The Board of Directors and Communications committee conducted research over a four-month period regarding the logo decision, considering issues of community, team pride, history, economics, feasibility and future vision for the Centre. After consideration of all factors, and consultation with sports directors and convenors, as well as other community centres that have gone through the amalgamation process, consensus was arrived that a new logo was more desirable both from a practical perspective as well as capturing the spirit of unification of the community under the Central Corydon Community Centre banner. The Board also decided that it was important that any process to select a new team logo would include, as much as possible and practical, the input of the community, while taking into consideration the various regulations that are set out by the different sports associations. In addition to a new team name and logo, the board will be examining options to commemorate the old logos, in honour of the rich and strong histories of the former three centres. “Many of us were elected to represent the three community centres that proudly wore these logos, and fundamentally, they are the foundations on which the Central Corydon Community Centre was built today,” said Pat O’Connor, President. “We want to make sure we don’t forget to honour the legacies of the former three centres that have served our community for so long.” The board will also setting up a time to gather further input from the community with respect to the logo selection process. The meeting date and time will be published on the Central Corydon Community Centre website as well as circulated via email. The board is also encouraging community members to volunteer their time to be a part of the process. Beyond logo selection, there are the tasks of final design, commemorating the old logos, colour selection, among other things.
