Pro Tips: Spring Cleanup Checklist

Whether you’re preparing for a home sale, or just carrying out your annual spring cleaning duties, you don’t want to forget a thing! That’s why we’ve created this ultimate checklist for you, separating it into three parts. This will help break down the monumental task of yardwork into smaller, achievable tasks that you’ll be eager to finish. Let’s begin:

Sorting/Removal

- Remove any branches or large debris from yard

- Trim and/or remove overgrown vegetation. Remove dead vegetation.

- Remove all pet waste.

- Rake fallen leaves and small debris into piles and remove.

- Remove any debris that Winter wind and snow deposited into your eaves.

- Pull any weeds from garden beds.

- Beat out the dirt and debris from outdoor mats and rugs.

Cleaning

- Pressure wash the porch exterior, the driveway, the sidewalk in front of the house, the patio and all paving/stepping stones. Give the siding a wash if it needs.

- Wash off outdoor furniture.

- Clean garden tools.

- Clean out the shed (sweeping the floor, cleaning shelves, removing cobwebs).

- Clean all outdoor lighting.

- Clean and polish the house numbers.

Fixing/Updating

- Add/Replace soil in garden beds.

- Spread mulch or re-seed grass.

- Re-secure any loose nails or screws in deck. Replace boards as needed.

- Apply new stain or sealant to deck.

- Weed between paving/stepping stones, re-grout as needed.

- Mow, edge and fertilize the yard.

- Tune up outdoor tools and store in an organized fashion.

- Make sure hinges, handles and locks are well-oiled.

- Replace bulbs in outdoor light fixtures.

- Test sprinklers.

- If planting, flowers are best in the front of the home and near outdoor seating.

Bonus Detailing (Optional)

- Update house numbers with large numbers.

- Sealcoat driveway.

- Replace old storm doors with full view doors.

- Plant native flowers and greenery for your local bee population.

- Paint your front door a bold colour.

- If there’s enough room, place a chair and small table to the side of the front door. Boosts curb appeal if you’re selling, is just an excellent spot to relax if you’re not selling!

- Embrace the power of symmetry. Matching wall lanterns or plants around your front and/or garage door are pleasing to look at and make the home look well put-together.

- Frame key visual points by installing planters under windows, or installing lights along walkways.
