Next year, CEP will have been around for 100 years— no small feat for an Aussie publisher. Whatever the season or challenge, CEP is continuing its tradition to serve teachers and their students with quality, contemporary resources.

Dear friend, 2020 will not be forgotten quickly. The circumstances of the year so far have forced everyone—you as educators and us as publishers— to rethink our efficacy in the face of tremendous logistical and technological challenges. There was very little time to prepare. Online learning systems and devices had formerly been a matter of preference wedded to school demographics, learning culture and history. Suddenly, they became imperative. From March it was clear to us at CEP, through the hundreds of schools we were in contact with, that many teachers were working extraordinary hours as they wrestled with the systems neccessary to care for and educate their students in isolation for an indeterminable period. Best practice pedagogy has never been more difficult than over this recent period and the many calls and emails we receive indicate that our products and systems are working for you and continue to make your life easier. This gives us great joy. It is always our

intention to assist you in making your subject the most engaging in the school week. May God continue to bless your work—this year and beyond. The team at CEP

Hello God! Preschool

Hello God! introduces preschool children aged 3–5 to the Christian faith. It uses both Old and New Testament passages to explore themes such as God’s character, his world and promises, and what it means to trust him. Semester 1 focuses on the themes of ‘Who is God? Who is Jesus?’ and ‘God and his world’. Semester 2 examines the themes of ‘Trusting God and living for him’ and ‘God keeps his promises’. Both semesters use a balance of Old and New Testament passages. The program includes coloured posters, ideas for prayers and memory verses and a CD of ageappropriate songs and movement music.

Over 33,000 sold

The perfect introduction for secondary Religious Education, Finding Your Way is designed to explain the entire sweep of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and to show students how it all holds together in Jesus. Finding Your Way explains who wrote the Bible and when and where the main characters lived. Both the big picture themes and individual stories that students may have come across in their primary years are put into context within the wider biblical story. Offering a sound knowledge of the historicity, narrative flow, key doctrines and centrality of Jesus in the Bible, Finding Your Way forms a foundation upon which all subsequent units in RE can build.

Who was Jesus, and why were so many who met him wrong about him? Mistaken Identity? examines the claims of Jesus, his profound teachings, why he went where he did, who he chose to speak to and, critically, the significance of it all. Far from being just another spiritual teacher wandering Judea, Jesus makes demands of us like no other. Along with Finding Your Way (see page 19) this unit forms a foundation for Religious Education which can be referred to throughout a student’s life.

Over 25,000 sold

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus offers some of the most challenging, inspiring, encouraging and profound words ever uttered. This teaching impacts our relationships, our major life choices and even our view of ourselves. But upon close examination, it appears Jesus is setting us an ideal we can never reach. At a time when many students are making decisions that will shape the type of person they will become, Another Dimension shows what life looks like when we give up our endless self-salvation project and instead turn and follow the author of life.

The Psalms Years 8–9

The psalms carry the full range of human emotion and longing. Through their poetry, students will learn profound biblical truths in new ways, the words of which can bed down in their hearts and last a lifetime. The themes of seven psalms (and a corresponding contemporary song for each) are explored in this unit. Students will see not only the timeless joy that music and poetry offer as a form of worship, but that these ancient songs have much to teach us in our modern circumstances. The Psalms seeks to take readers beyond mere intellectual beliefs to a real, emotional relationship with God.

War of the Spirit World Years 8–9

Believers and non-believers alike are fascinated with questions around the reality of the supernatural. Where does evil come from? Are there spiritual forces? What is the nature and purpose of God? Are humans eternal or destined for destruction? Or both? For students in their early teens, the supernatural abounds in popular literature, films and culture. Continued exposure to such ideas is a ripe setting for fear and uncertainty. War of the Spirit World examines and puts into its proper place all the ‘weird’ stuff so that students can understand that a biblical understanding of the reality of the universe, and all creation within it, is that God is in control, with a secure future for them.

Your Sneaking Suspicions? Years 8–9 Over 50,000 sold

John Dickson’s A Sneaking Suspicion remains the biggest selling book by an Aussie Christian. And for good reason. After all, the questions haven’t changed. ‘Why are we here?’ ‘How do I find meaning?’ ‘Might God/the Bible/Jesus have something to do with it?’ John does a profound, yet humourous, job at showing that the Christian faith is more than resilient, it’s got answers where it matters. This unit takes students on John’s own journey, step by step, from sceptical teenage inquirer to fervent believer. Your Sneaking Suspicions? allows students to wrestle with their own suspicions regarding faith and to take their time to consider the claims of Christianity.

You: An Introduction Years 10–11

Our culture offers us both extraordinary freedoms and responsibilities. For many adolescents, the multitude of ways of navigating identity and self-worth which society presents ideas of identity and self-worth lead not to surety, but rather, unsettling fluidity. You: An Introduction identifies the various means by which individuals establish a sense of identity and makes a case that when we wrestle with the Christian ideas of being made in the image of God and placing God rather than ourselves, at the centre of our lives, we will discover a purpose deeper and more life-affirming than any other.

If I Were God, I’d End All the Pain Years 10–11 Over 20,000 sold

The issue of pain and suffering touches us all. Throughout the ages, every faith, every secular voice, has had to grapple with this issue. If I Were God, I’d End All the Pain is an autobiographical journey, beginning with a very real cry of ‘Why?’ and leading, step by step, to a Christian understanding of the cross. Along the way, John Dickson examines the questions that suffering and evil raise in relation to a loving and powerful God before finding no less than life-changing hope—even in the face of the agonies possible in this world.

No Turning Back Years 10–13 Over 24,000 sold

The 6 themes of Ephesians promise no less than the most fulfilling life possible. Grace. Forgiveness. New life. Light and darkness. A place to belong. A heavenly inheritance. No Turning Back uses contemporary anecdotes against the backdrop of the Ephesian Christians to illustrate these six themes of Jesus, showing students how different life looks in light of these ideas. Ideas of identity, purpose and meaning, justice and mercy and various other topics explored in No Turning Back link in well with a broader secondary Religious Education program.

The Good, the Bad and the Ethical Years 10–13 Over 40,000 sold

This highly practical unit studies major ethical frameworks and challenges students to carry them to their logical conclusion. Numerous case studies—from the global to the personal—are examined helping students to become reflective and intentional in their ethical and moral decisions. A biblical model to ethics is also presented allowing students to understand and formulate a Christian response to some of today’s significant ethical questions, even if such a response is not their own. The higher order thinking skills required to identify and analyse one’s own motives and prejudices are valuable tools for many other senior subjects.

Life in the Past Lane Years 10–13 Over 14,000 sold

Ideas conspicuous in other senior subjects—such as human rights, freedom of religion, the enlightenment and human rationalism—have a history which is essential for modern people to understand. Life in the Past Lane begins in the book of Acts and studies the growth, conflicts, major figures and events of the church and Christian believers—for better or worse—until the present day. Our culture, beliefs and values have not come out of nowhere and we ignore the past at our peril. Life in the Past Lane will help students apply the lessons and challenges of history to their own individual circumstances and those of the broader world today.

The Resurrection Years 10–13

Jesus’ resurrection is more than just an intellectual idea. For 2000 years it has been debated, dismissed and defended—even to the point of death. Can the central event of Christianity stand fast in our modern world of relativistic philosophical systems? The Resurrection examines all the popular (and ancient) objections and competing theories to the traditional physical resurrection of Jesus. But the onus is not all one way. As the unit explains, the sceptic must also provide a logically valid, historically defensible explanation for what happened in Palestine 2000 years ago. This is important stuff. The Christian claim, if substantiated, consigns all other ideas to the margins.

A Spectator’s Guide to World Views Years 10–13

Every day we are confronted with messages, both subtle and direct, that emanate from a particular world view. Very often, significant differences lie at the heart of these world views and the outworkings can consequently head in markedly different directions with regards to questions of belief, faith and meaning. A Spectator’s Guide to World Views endeavours to give students the critical thinking skills necessary to identify, navigate and consider the implications (if they are true) of various common world views while getting them to express their own world view and give a coherent defence of it.

A Spectator’s Guide to World Religions Years 10–13 Over 50,000 sold

A thought-through understanding of the teachings, history and beliefs of the major faiths is necessary if we are to honestly grapple with the nature of our world and the societies within it. Where do they overlap? What are their unique claims? Are they all different paths up the same mountain? A Spectator’s Guide to World Religions pushes students to wrestle with the conflicting claims of the various faiths on key questions of life and meaning. It endeavours to faithfully represent each religion on its own terms. The final chapter compares how each faith views Christianity, allowing students to see any similarities and how Christianity stands unique.

Hope for a Shattered World Years 10–13 Over 23,000 sold

Genesis 1–11 might be confusing, divisive, and challenging, but it is also utterly foundational to the biblical narrative. Here the themes of the Bible are established: Who is God? Who is humanity? Why is the world the way it is? And, perhaps most tellingly to our modern age, what hope, if any, do we have? Hope for a Shattered World critically evaluates— linguistically, metaphorically, poetically—the opening grand chapters of the Bible and shows how connections are established with the later biblical story against which the claims of Christ are made, and life, even now, in the 21st century.

The Cross Years 10–13

In this unit, the entire sweep of the Bible is brought to the foot of the cross. The purpose of Jesus is linked with major biblical historical events, themes and characters to show that here we see most clearly the fulfilment of God’s eternal plans and his love for humanity. But this is no mere intellectual exercise. The Cross demonstrates through contemporary stories how Jesus’ death and resurrection gives hope, peace and access to God’s love now. No-one who opens this unit will fail to see the urgency of God’s invitation and the difference the cross makes to every aspect of our existence.

The Spirit Years 10–13

A clear understanding of the Holy Spirit informs all other aspects of Christian life and faith. How we pray and what we pray about, why we meet with other believers and serve with humility, and even how we read the Bible are all affected by our relationship to the breath hovering over the waters. To many Christians, the Holy Spirit is confusing or even outright ignored. This unit seeks to show students how the Spirit plays a role throughout both the Old and New Testaments and that he is no less than the giver of life, essential to shaping and guiding the lives of those who follow Jesus.

John 10:10 Years 12–13

In John 10:10, Jesus makes the extraordinary claim, ‘I have come that you might have life to the full’. This unit investigates this promise by contrasting it with pre-eminent cultural ideals of the good life. The strong imagery, vivid metaphors and Old Testament allusions and references that define John’s Gospel are examined as is the unique Johannine language style. By the end of the unit, students will recognise the ‘signs’ of Jesus’ identity and be able to articulate what his offer of ‘life to the full’ might look like.
