President’s Message

Welcome to the 16th Annual Energizing Summit! Time sure does fly by when you are having fun. It seems like just yesterday we were finishing up the the 15th Energizing Summit. What a wonderful and exciting year it has been in haircolor. We opened up an entire new category of products, led by Olaplex and quickly followed by 35+ others, it appears the “Bonding” category is here to stay. There has been no less than six other haircolor lines appear. And off shoots of existing lines the word “natural” or “organic” seem to be gaining traction. More than ever I am seeing a craving for TRUE haircolor education. This is why I created a one of a kind seminar produced completely by haircolorists. There are few educators who teach generic education and we are privileged to have the very best participating in our event. We offer small classes so you have a chance to ask questions and interact with the educators. There are a variety of haircolor subjects to choose from so you can really focus on the areas you need help in most. You also have the opportunity to participate in hands on classes. We even have business classes that are focused on the haircolorist and how to succeed. Our role as haircolorists is not only to color hair but to do so in a manner that will promote the business of professional haircoloring. We look forward to your participation and encourage you to work towards being the best you that you can be!

General Assembly 8:00 A.M. Sunday

Misael Aponte Master of Ceremony

Misael Aponte is a beauty industry educator with over 25 years of experience who believes in providing Stylists with a solid foundation in science so they can create their own art behind the chair. This is Misael’s 10th year teaching at the Energizing Summit and he is very honored to be this year’s Master of Ceremonies, where he will discuss The Power of Awareness. With all of today’s ever increasing distractions and constant interruptions, we need to re-learn how to connect to the present. Why are we all here this weekend? For everyone to feel truly fulfilled, we shouldn’t be here to simply gather knowledge, but to come away with new concepts and ideas that we can each use to help us to grow our teams and our businesses back home and be successful for many years to come. By reconnecting to the present, we can become better artists and better service providers for our customers!

Game Changers: Big Ideas Changing the Face of Beauty In the past decade, we’ve seen telephones change from a way to “phone home” into an essential tool to manage lives and business; we’ve watched “community” evolve from real world places into global online forums that empower and elevate 24/7 – two examples that barely scratch the surface of how innovation and technology are changing our professional world, and the lives of the clients we serve.

Gordon Miller Keynote Speaker

American Salon’s VP of Digital Gordon Miller will share his insights (and predictions) into the big trends going on around us online and off – and what they may mean for your business, career and life.

Haircolor Forum for Everyone The Haircolorists forum has proven to be one of the most popular features at the Energizing Summit. Tony will lead a discussion of distinguished haircolorists, scientists and others who are closely related to the haircoloring industry in an open forum. There will be some “hot topics” discussed and valuable advice given. This is a one of a kind gathering and there is no one better than Tony Fanelli to lead it. The Forum will take place on Sunday at 4:00 PM and will continue for two and a half hours. Come and express your views.

Correcting Haircolor Disasters

Jessee Skittrall ABCH

Sunday: 2:00pm Monday: 9:30am Lecture

20 2016 Energizing Summit June 12 & 13

This is more than a corrective haircolor class. During this three-hour class you will learn to deal with the worst of the worst haircolor disasters; everything from consultation to formulation. Where has the client been, where does she want to go and how are you going to get there? Above all, you must be able to learn how to deal with porosity, something that is always present with corrective situations. This class is interactive where you have the opportunity to observe one of the most brilliant educators who still works behind the chair. This is so important in being able to relate to your everyday haircolor challenges. You will absolutely love this class. The three hours will fly by.

Framing the Face with Haircolor The ability to understand lights and shadows and how this simple concept will lay the groundwork for successful haircoloring. This is just one of many concepts Roy will cover in his astounding classes. Becoming a top-notch haircolorist requires you know the colors you are working with and how they will affect the face shape when applied properly. Haircolor is much more than mixing and applying a haircolor to your client, we are basically problem solvers, and the interaction with clients relies heavily on your communication skills. Roy is a master of conveying information to his audience. His classes are always fabulous. Don’t miss Roy Peters!

50 Shades of Gray Hair If you think gray hair is a simple black and white issue...think again. There are so many aspects of this one category we overlook. 40 percent of the color work done in salons today is covering gray. We haven’t even tapped into the knowledge, formulas and how many shades of gray there are to accurately and successfully achieve what we want to do. This class will change everything you think about gray hair. See for yourself some things done on gray hair that will squash the old school thought process we have carried for years. Lisa will amaze you by teaching things you thought couldn’t be done with gray hair. Go back to your salons with the knowledge to tackle this huge aspect of what you do everyday. Be sure not to miss her class!

Bridging the Texture Divide This class will present the facts that help dispel the myths and take away the fear of coloring and maintaining healthy hair with beautiful color on differing Hair Types & Textures. The Global Textures Chart (GTC) helps to liberally categorize hair types from 1A- 4C. Understanding this chart represents major building blocks for stylists to build a bridge across the texture divide. Kevin uses the GTC, along with ABCH color principles, and the understanding of color rules & tools when working with diverse hair types and textures to teach this class. You will quickly realize these components allow you to create beautiful healthy color regardless of the client’s texture, type, or ethnic background.Â

Formulation ABCs Do you have difficulty in communicating with your client the color she wants? Do you know the color the client wants but you have difficulty formulating to obtain the color? This class will teach you to never fear haircolor again. It is a matter of understanding what a color is capable of. Being able to predict the outcome of a color is a gift that keeps on giving.
