Beijing is the nation’s capital and the political & cultural centre. Famous for its cultural heritage and many historic sites, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and its hutongs with courtyard homes. It feels like a capital with broad streets and wide open spaces. The climate can be extreme (very cold in winter below ooc, and hot in the summer, reaching 35oc). If you can, we recommend you visit in Spring or Autumn. The air is generally dry (but the city suffers from smog, due to air pollution). With over 7 years of teaching experience, and between 30 /70 students studying each month the college in Beijing offers a small college environment across ALL linguistic needs (5 main language levels offered, which are then subdivided again). Well located, in the Chaoyang District, just 15 mins from Sanlitu Bar street (a popular area with students and expats). The college caters for all ages (but mainly 19/35yrs) and facilities include 10 classrooms (with air con) & internet access. Accommodation is offered in shared student apartments, private apartments or with local hosts. The college offers general Mandarin language courses and private tuition courses. So whether you have just a few weeks, or several months to dedicate to your studies, Beijing has plenty to offer. You can also combine your studies with a course in Shanghai, at the sister school.

Standard Course 20 lessons per week Class size: max 10 people. Ideal for all age groups (16yrs+) and language abilities. Short term programmes concentrates on conversational skills; through speaking & listening, role-play, group dynamics and vocabulary games. Combined Course Follow a group course (20 or 30 lessons per week) plus a further 5 private classes per week. The additional private classes review and practise morning work and discuss daily linguistic concerns or can be used to develop Chinese business skills, or look at Chinese culture/history in detail.

Academic Term * 30 lessons per week 12, 16, 20, 24, 36 or 48 wks duration Class size: max 10 people. The morning lessons focus on practical Chinese: listening and speaking. In the afternoon you have the chance to learn Chinese characters and learn how to read and write while strengthen your conversational skills. It's the perfect preparation for the HSK Chinese exam. Richard: Languages for Life “Twelve weeks seems like a long time, until you’re trying to learn Chinese, then it doesn’t seem very long at all. The teachers were so very helpful and friendly and my conversation skills really came together. Getting to know the other students, sharing a love of the Chinese language and exploring the city together with new friends were the highlights of my trip. ” Sarah: Standard Course “Being able to speak some Mandarin words from the first day of class was amazing. The city itself is mind blowing! There’s so much more to learn – but what a great start!”

Shanghai is the economic heart of China, with a long tradition of western influence and trade. The weather is quite humid and a rainy season is experienced in June. With over 5 years of teaching experience, and between 60 /110 students studying each month the college in Shanghai offers a serious college environment catering for ALL linguistic needs (5 main language levels offered, which are then subdivided again). Well located, in the Huangpu District, just 10 minutes walk from the famous Bund and a short walk to the Grand Theatre & Shanghai museum. The college caters for all ages (but mainly 19/35yrs) and facilities include 22 classrooms (with air con) & internet access. Accommodation is offered in shared student apartments, private apartments or with local hosts. The college offers short and long term Mandarin language courses, private tuition and Over 50s Courses. So whether you have just a few weeks, or several months to dedicate to your studies, Shanghai has plenty to offer. You can also combine your studies with a course in Beijing, at the sister school. NB: The Shanghai dialect is different to Mandarin so the Chinese spoken in the street can’t be understood easily by most foreign students unless they spend a long time in the city, but students love studying here due to openness of the Shangainese and the glamour & dynamism of the city.

Julian: Languages for Life “Spending 6 weeks in Beijing, then 6 weeks in Shanghai was a great way to see two sides of China whilst learning Mandarin. Learning the characters is tough – it takes a lot of work, but it’s great when you start to make sense of the signs in the street around you! The two cities are so different! I loved the modernity of Shanghai (and the fantastic nightlife!)but seeing the wall and just how enormous Tiananmen Square is, was incredible too.” Alan: Standard Course “Immersion in the language is the ONLY way to master Chinese! The teachers were organised and lessons were well structured and fun”

Richard: Academic Term/s “I cannot recommend the school in Beijing highly enough. I have been here for nearly seven months now and I am in no doubt that coming to Beijing was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made! So much so that I have now agreed to work in Beijing for the foreseeable future! Ability levels vary and the school are good at assessing students’ ability levels and fitting them into one of their classes when they come to Beijing. The ages of the students vary and so do their reasons for coming to Beijing to study Mandarin. In the 6 months or so that I have been here I have gone from knowing no Chinese at all to being of an intermediate level. My ability has improved dramatically and I am further along the road than I expected to be at this stage. All in all my experience at the school has been an extremely positive one and I can’t recommend it, its teachers or its staff highly enough.” Lucy: Standard Course “I enjoyed the first week but by the second week I felt I was progressing a lot quicker and then moved up to the next class. The school was brilliant, a lovely, peaceful building with a very sophisticated feel to it, the staff were extremely friendly, knew us all by name and chatted and joked with us. Its location could not have been better, it was right in the heart of Beijing with great things to see just a short walk away!”
