Jo: Languages for Life “I loved the fact that everyone REALLY had to speak French both in and out of class. There were people from all over, in my class, we had Japanese, Swedish, Ukrainian and Taiwanese nationals (and me of course) so French really was the common language! Tackling French grammar was no picnic, but I’ve definitely improved. The teachers gave us great support as a class and as individuals – which really made a huge difference. Now my French is better than my elder sister’s (which she’s not at all amused about) and I feel so much more confident with the language. Thanks CESA, it was an incredible 3 months.” Mark: Standard Course “Aix is fabulous, the food is amazing and my hostess has become a second mother to me. I hope to stay in contact with the friends I made in the college. In fact I hope to return to the college next year. Two weeks just wasn’t long enough!”

Mrs Wardley: Standard Course “Antibes is excellent – large enough to offer all aspects of shops, culture etc, but no too large. The school is within walking distance of the centre of town and the main beach. It has an excellent bus service, so no aspect is really out of reach for students. The young students made their own social life in the residences. I enjoyed a few good places to eat. There is plenty to do – if you have the time, the teachers give you homework! As I am retired I asked for a hostess of a similar age to myself. Madame Monique Cartier was excellent. We went out together, shopped together and she even helped me when I got stuck with my homework.” Niamh: Standard Course “I’ve always loved Antibes. That’s why I chose it when I wanted to improve my French. Spending 8 weeks working on my French with such great people has really helped my French ability and my self-confidence in using the language. I loved the college and had a great social life too!”

Mr King : Combined Course “There was a good variety of approaches with plenty of opportunities to speak. The right balance between “closed” and more “open” exercises. Some interesting and relevant material was used for example films and newspapers. The school was well organised but very relaxed, allowing pupils of all ages to mix comfortably. I particularly enjoyed the 2 ½ hours of one to one lessons with the same teacher as had taught me in the morning group lessons.” Michaela: Languages for Life “My expectations were met; most of the teachers structured their lessons using the four different skills. The atmosphere in the school exceeded my expectations and I made a lot of friends there. I really enjoyed the school and its atmosphere, it was a great place to make friends and the majority of the teachers were approachable. The school is in the middle of Bordeaux golden triangle and you have easy access to the whole of the city. The best parts were the people that I met there, the improvements I made linguistically and Bordeaux is a great city for students. Course Start Dates 2013 Applies to general language courses. CESA Plus Points: Bordeaux: A city that knows about “joie de vivre” & takes pleasure seriously: strolling along the Garonne or in the pedestrian streets ~ sitting on a café terrace and enjoying the mild year-round climate ~ admiring magnificent architecture & art collections ~ sampling some of the finest wines together with the excellent local cuisine ~ the Bordelais and adult students may well start the evening with an apéritif, on the terrace of Le Régent, in place Gambetta, but a range of cool bars & hot clubs attract the 18yrs+ crowd. Bordeaux College: Good quality language course options for academic or general language improvement~ ideal for adults & students ~ Languages for Life courses are very popular, so early bookings recommended ~ Very popular with past CESA students.

Phoebe: Languages for Life “Where to start! Well the important thing is the French, which I have every confidence that it has flourished under the instruction of my prof. Katia, who was amazing and extremely patient. The teachers at the college are brilliant, and with lessons taught solely in French, it is a steep learning curve. Every lesson is structured well and it is balanced with a mix of grammar, listening, reading and writing and every month you progress to the next level so the work never becomes boring or too easy. It is always challenging, but I made so much progress every month that you just await the next lesson with impatience as you know you're going to meet something new.” Rachel : Languages for Life “Cannes is very well situated in terms of accessibility to other towns and is also very lively! Would I go again? Yes! I'd also recommend Cannes to other students; I had some great moments there and made lots of friends!” Course Start Dates Applies to general language courses. Miriam : Languages for Life “I started at the beginner level at the college and I learned more French in the first month than I had learned in all of my school French classes. By the end of my stay, I had I passed DELF B2 with plenty of marks to spare (69.5/100), and made further progress by reaching the advanced level 2 class (approaching DALF C1 level). I found the excursions an enjoyable way to practise my French and to meet other students. My favourite excursions were the nights out to various restaurants, especially Moules Frites and Crepes!” Elena: Intensive Course “The best part of the course was the discussions, debates and when we made up stories in French and could be creative, playing games. Listening to French music was also good. The other students in my class were lovely, we became a great group of friends.” Course Start Dates Applies to general language courses. Jo: Easter A’level Revision Course “The lessons were well presented and I felt I could talk to my teacher if I was confused at any point. Studying with really good native French speakers, who really knew their stuff was so helpful to me. Linguistically my speaking improved so much and I now feel a lot more confident in speaking French and my understanding of French. We were able to cover a lot of grammar and topic related work. The school was so nice and the staff were to my surprise really approachable.” Darren : Languages for Life “Twelve weeks just flew by and my French (which was rusty GCSE) has improved so much. Loved the college and adore Nice – already longing to go back!” Ms Rankin: Over 50s “I felt CESA offered me excellent assistance, efficient email and phone information and good advice. I have already recommended the French language course in Nice, and I would go again. Maybe it’s a long time since I have been in a classroom, but I loved every minute of it. What more could I ask!”

John: Private Tuition “Having two tutors each day, meant I had nowhere to hide! The different perspectives and approaches were really helpful and my grammar has greatly improved. Many thanks.” Emily : Combined Course “My expectations were definitely met. The private lessons were particularly enjoyable and beneficial; being virtually identical to the supervisions I have at University. Group lessons were also enjoyable. The location of the school was excellent. The staff and teachers were very approachable. The best parts of the course were the private lessons and meeting so many nice people. Paris is amazing! I’ve decided thanks to my exploration of the city during the course, to spend a year there, next year, as part of my degree course. Eleanor: A’level Revision I was so impressed. I’d hoped that the lessons weren’t going to be like school and my hopes were fulfilled. The lessons in French were great revision and practice for both listening and speaking confidence and the cultural topics were so interesting: French schooling, political system etc. The experience exceeded all my expectations! I was so impressed with my lessons: there was only me and two other students so we were able to get to know each other really well and have lots of attention from the teacher. The lessons were so interesting, much better than school! I found cultural topics such as the French political system and education system so interesting, and learning about it in French help the with the language skills as well. I really liked the relaxed feeling in the class. Course Start Dates Applies to general language courses. . Jeremy: Combined Course “I only had a week, but what a week My grammar and sentence construction has really improved but it was the one to one lessons that really boosted my confidence. I was shattered by Friday but it was worth it.” Edward : Languages for Life I expected the course to be hard work, and it was, but it wasn’t a struggle which is what I’d thought/feared, as the different language levels were carefully pitched. In fact I saw significant improvement by the end of the course (just made the C1 class before I left). I really liked the way the school used authentic materials; newspaper articles etc rather than text books, in lessons. The classes were always pitched at adult learners and the teachers expected us to be motivated and get involved, which really suited me. Once in Paris, I booked extra afternoon sessions, which worked well for me. I’d suggest students consider the Writing and Grammar class (sounds dull, but good revision) and the Culture and Civilization class (relaxed class but good for putting the language in to context). The school could not have been better located, easy to walk to many central places and easy metro access right by the school to get to the rest of the city.

The city was great (much nicer than I’d expected) and my hosts were great too and only a 20 minute walk from the language school. A good 3 weeks course, that really helped me improve my French.” Giacomo : Standard Course “I was there 2 weeks in September and I loved it! Mr Wong: Summer Course “I expected that I would improve my French to a certain extent. I also expected to learn something new, that I hadn’t learnt at school before. My expectations were definitely met. The lessons were really good. My teacher was very nice. The students were attentive and there were lots of discussions, which was good. The location of the school was excellent. The staff at the school were very friendly. The best parts of the course were the discussions in class, especially when students participated a lot. I would definitely go to Tours again and I’d recommend others to go.” Serena Grigg: Mini Group Course “I particularly loved the course structure at the college, the small groups, the personal contact and the fact that it was adults studying together (nothing wrong with 17yr olds, but now I’m in my 50’s I’d rather study with other adults!). I’m sure that all the other students felt the same way as me, certainly everyone in the college was a pleasure to know. I’d like to say a huge “Thank You” to the teachers and my class mates for making my time in France such a positive, instructive and fun time.”

Angela : French & Surfing “I wanted a holiday surfing and to improve my French at the same time…boy was that what I got. The school in St Anne was fantastic, my French improved so much. I loved the surfing in the afternoons. Fantastic French lessons, gorgeous beaches, great weather and fun surfing…Heaven! I really didn’t want to come home.” Anne: Private Tuition I was very pleased with my experience in Guadeloupe. My French instructor was excellent; she was extremely knowledgeable and well-prepared, and created a comfortable and fun classroom environment that was conducive to learning. She also tailored specific assignments to meet my learning needs and goals, such as loaning me a short novel by a Haitian writer to read on my own time. After just three weeks of classes at the school, I had advanced significantly (testing at B2, leaving with a level of “utilisateur independant avance”). James: Private Tuition "I really didn't know what to expect from my time in Sainte Anne. I had some unexpected free time and needed some sun - but wanted to work on my French. Paris in January didn't appeal. CESA suggested Guadeloupe and could arrange it quickly - so I went. Small classes, hot tropical weather and a couple of glasses of rum each evening really helped improve my French!" Course Start Dates : 2013 Applies to general language courses. All start dates shown below in red, are open to beginners. * Tuesday start date due to holiday month January February March April May June July August September October November December
