ISABEL & FERNANDO ruled Spain in 1492. They helped Columbus in his trip to the Indies.

Columbus wanted to find a new sea route to reach the Indies But America was a continent that was in the middle of the route and they didn't know, so they thought they have reached the Indies. They called the inhabitants "Indians"

CARLOS I

CARLOS I became king in 1516. His empire included the German territories (Germany, Austria, Italy and Netherlands). Also the Spanish colonies in America.

FRENCH INVASION In 1808, Napoleon's army invaded Spain.

IMPORTANT FACTS - Spaniards fought against the French army until 1814. Finally, we won the Independence War. - In 1812 the first Constitution was approved - Spain lost the last colonies in Central and South America as well as Philippines

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

IMPORTANT FACTS - It began in Great Britain in the 19th C. with the invention of the STEAM ENGINE. - Great changes in agriculture, transport, manufacturing and technology. - Lots of population moved from villages to towns and cities to find a job in factories. - Manual work was replaced by machines. - Working conditions in factories were difficult and unhealthy.
