Message from the Chairman Connecting People Who Care With Causes That Matter is the mission of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. The 2021 Annual Report is the Foundation’s opportunity to share with you how we are accomplishing our mission as we close out our second decade as a Community Foundation. The Foundation granted a total of $250 our first year of existence and by September 2021, a total of $3.1 million, impacting the counties we serve. Since 2002, we’ve granted over $33.3 million to more than 832 nonprofits and charitable causes. I invite you to read the Annual Report cover to cover, especially pages 8 and 9 that show the dollar amounts granted to each county since 2002 and the listing of nonprofits in each county and state who benefited from a grant in 2021. I also invite you to promote the work of our Community Foundation by encouraging your family members, friends, colleagues, and businesses to contact our staff or board members to discuss how we can help with their philanthropic goals. It’s an honor to serve as Chairman and I look forward to our next 20 years of supporting nonprofits in Northwest Mississippi. Colie Sanford Chairman of the Board of Directors 4

Types of Funds
What type of fund matches your philanthropic goal?
current giving
A CURRENT GIVING FUND allows the donor to see an immediate impact. These funds are directly expendable. Think of a current giving fund as a charitable checking account.
endowment
What type of purpose will match your fund?
An ENDOWMENT is a permanent fund that is invested and managed by the Community Foundation’s finance committee and Hardy Reed Capital Advisors. Think of an Endowment as a charitable savings account. This is the gift that gives forever with the principal never depleted and a spendable amount to use each year, you can start an Endowment with just $5,000.
donor advised
designated purpose
field of interest
You can have ongoing involvement in the use of your gift and, if desired, work with our grant-making staff identifying ways to use dollars from your Donor Advised Fund to address the non-profit issues and needs you care about most. Your recommendations are submitted to our local board for confirmation; we then distribute grant dollars.
You can direct your gift to a specific charity. Help provide ongoing funding for a senior center, museum, church, or any non-profit charitable organization. You identify the recipient or recipients you wish to benefit through your gift; our staff manages the annual distribution of funds.
You can target your gift to address needs in an important area of community life. The arts. Aging. At-risk youth. You identify your personal interest area when making your gift; our board awards grants to community agencies and programs that are making a difference in the area you select.
unrestricted
scholarship
Your gift can address ever-changing community needs – including future needs that often cannot be anticipated at the time your gift is made. The flexibility of your unrestricted gift enables your community foundation to respond to the community’s most pressing needs, today and tomorrow.
You can invest your gift in our community’s future and show students you care, all with the guidance and personal services of your community foundation. You determine the criteria students must meet to receive the Scholarship you establish.

2021 Crystal Ball Gala
J
anuary 16, 2021 was a night to stand out among the virtual pandemic events. The 21st Annual Crystal Ball Gala brought many firsts for the Community Foundation: first virtual gala, first bitcoin gift, first posthumous Star of Hope honor, and the first time to expand Crystal Ball viewership to millions! The Community Foundation was able to achieve a record-breaking year through sponsorships and airings on WKNO Memphis and Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Our Star of Hope, Charley Pride, from Sledge, Mississippi, was posthumously honored as the Star of Hope by many recognizable friends including Sam
& Mary Haskell, Robert Long, Dion & Rozene Pride, Peter Whitham, Jeremy C. Park, Brad Paisley, Jackie Peters, Bob Pittman, Marty Stuart, The Oak Ridge Boys, Darius Rucker, Sela Ward, Charlie Worsham, Bobby Rush, Steve Azar, Curt Chambers, BJ Thomas, TG Sheppard, Ken Burns, David Frizzell, Mickey Gilley, Lee Greenwood, Jesse Holland, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Archie Manning, Mac McAnally, “Boo” Mitchell, Jimmy Payne, and David Lee Murphy.
